You are “Overqualified” or "Too Senior" 

That reason has quietly derailed more careers than poor performance ever did. 

As a headhunter, I hear it often — 
“She’s too senior.” 
“He might not stay long.” 
“He won’t adapt.” 
“He’ll be too expensive.”

But here’s what’s really going on behind the scenes: 

Sometimes, it’s not about the candidate. 

It’s about the hiring manager’s insecurity. 
➡️ Fear of being challenged. 
➡️ Fear they can’t afford them. 
➡️ Fear they’ll look inexperienced in comparison. 

And instead of honest conversations, they hide behind vague rejections: 
❌ “Not the right fit.” 
❌ “Too experienced.” 
❌ “Too senior.” 

Let’s get real: 
Someone with 20+ years of experience isn’t the problem. They’re often the solution companies didn’t know they needed. 

➡️ They don’t need micromanaging. 
➡️ They see patterns younger teams might miss. 
➡️ They bring speed, clarity, and calm under pressure. 

So here’s my take: 

➡️ If you're a hiring manager — stop using “overqualified” as a polite rejection. Be honest. Be clear. Or better — be curious. 

➡️ And if you’re a candidate who’s heard this too many times, 
Remember: The right companies won’t fear your experience. They’ll celebrate it. 

Let’s shift the narrative.
