These 3 job stats are a worry: 72%, 51%, 44%
Because they show something serious going on:

The numbers are for 2023, 2024 and 2025 in terms of the % of candidates with multiple job offers in their most recent job search*

That's trending dramatically down.

What does this mean?

This:
If you are less likely to have options, then you need to change something. 

Especially as the employment market will only get more competitive.

So what to do?

Focus on you, more. Here's how:

Look, sending out a résumé and patiently waiting in line is asking for trouble.

Instead, proactivity is the solution.

So:
1. Share your opinions on LinkedIn
↳ You'll be asked them in an interview anyway. 
But now your answer reaches many.

2. Network up
↳ Connect with those that might hire/influence hiring decisions. 
But be human: conversation > a pitch for a job

3. Show up, just not in queues
↳ Waiting in line for an interview screams average. 
Instead, go to events to network. Even attend events here on LinkedIn. 

Having the inside edge like this is how you get noticed
And importantly, it starts useful conversations.
Those that hire love to see initiative. 

What else? 
Work on your communication:
- Persuasion, influence and articulation all matter. 
- Because when you work hard to get your foot in the door, you don't want to throw that opportunity because you didn't train how you'd show up.

How else can a job seeker be proactive?

Bad advice can often sound good
So we think it's right. Here's an example:

Write content for 1 person
Talk about the 1 problem
Give them 1 solution

Part of this misses the mark.

And it's that middle line.

"Talk about the 1 problem"

You see, when you truly understand buyer behaviour, you realise something about "problems":
• You know what they are
• They usually don't

Typically, people don't fully know their problems
and they certainly haven't labelled them

For example:
- Business owners don't know their website's issue is its UX
- A patient with a cough won't know they have bronchitis
- CEOs don't think their problem is their personal brand

Problems require awareness

So you can see that speaking about problems often misses the mark.

You get it
Your peers get it
...and your engagement wrongly suggests your audience gets it

But the right people need it to relate more to what they're feeling now.

How do we fix this?

Instead of talking about the problem itself,
Speak to the symptoms of the problem:

Suddenly, the right people can relate to them
Because they're consciously living them
They're totally frustrated by them
They're fed up with them

It's a tiny nuance, but makes a massive difference

So,

Write content for 1 person
Focus on their symptoms 
Give them 1 next step

Let's stop pretending the month is over.

It’s not.

And yet some are already winding down, half-writing off the last few days like they don’t count.

Let me remind you:
↳ Revenue doesn’t care what the calendar says
↳ Targets don’t adjust themselves because you “feel done”
↳ And prospects don’t progress themselves while you blow across your coffee and coast into December

We’ve got 4 working days. 

That’s not “wrap-up” time
It's close time

↳ The pros know it
↳ The high performers I know always have this attitude
↳ That top 1% are circling their opportunities

Meanwhile, others are forecasting
Because they're finished.

So ask yourself:
Are you done? 
Or are you hitting the end of the month?

Easing in vs finishing strong:
It's always interesting to see how people respond, this time of the year

You are an asset.

This mindset shift altered two things for me:
- The view of myself 
- My career in sales

Here's how you possibly see yourself right now:

You see yourself as a source of frustration to prospects
You feel their time is worth more than yours
You're concerned you're intruding

Instead, start viewing yourself as an asset and the solution to their problems.

If a potential prospect needs support, then you are providing it!

This is valuable and needed.

From that reframe, you're not an irritation nor imposing on them.

Only by recognizing how much you can contribute in solving problems will you start approaching your sales as the helpful advisor rather than a begging, needy salesperson.

So, show them you're the expert equipped to answer any question they might have. 

But the big thing is to also show up as someone proud to be able to assist them.

Your skills and expertise are what set you apart and make you an asset - so now it’s time to own it.

"This might not work"

Are you willing to say that?

According to Seth Godin, this is precisely what a leader should be willing to say to their team. 

Managers follow rules
They execute the plan
They deliver the thing 

But to volunteer. To say "I'll try this";
That is leadership.

So, 
↳ If you're doing the same as your peers
↳ If you're playing safe to only take part
↳ If you're letting others be the outliers

Then you're in the riskiest business of all.

Instead, we should be "dancing with the future".
Because it might just work.

I used to be addicted to achieving - and it almost destroyed me.

Always chasing the next thing.
The next milestone.
The next “win.”

At school, it was becoming a prefect.
Then it was winning gold in badminton. 
Later, it was signing the next deal, hitting the next revenue goal, landing the next opportunity.

I believed that if I reached it then I would finally feel worthy.
Then I could finally relax.
Then I could finally like myself.

But it never worked that way.

Achievement became its own kind of drug - silent, praised, and socially acceptable.

Every time I achieved something, I felt a rush: validation, pride, a temporary sense of safety.

But the high faded fast, and within minutes I was already scanning for the next hit.

And the worst part?
Every time I didn’t achieve something, my self-worth crashed instantly.

And I see this all the time now in the people I work with.

Sometimes it’s like I’m looking at a younger version of myself - trapped in the same cycle of proving, pushing, performing.

Eventually, I had to be honest with myself: the cost was too high.

I was trading peace for productivity.
Connection for accomplishment.
My identity for my output.

So I started learning to separate who I am from what I do.
And it began with three small things:

1. I stopped rewarding myself only when I achieved something. I started celebrating effort, intention, and presence instead.

2. I practiced doing things without needing them to “mean” anything - reading, walking, resting - without turning them into goals.

3. I swapped the question “What did I accomplish today?” for “How did I live today? “And who do I become today?”

And the impact has been huge.

It’s been liberating to approach my life and work without being attached to the outcome.

Don’t get me wrong - I still celebrate my wins, and I’m deeply grateful when things go well.
But I’m just as whole without them.

Now success adds to my life… it no longer defines it.

I'm so glad Djokovic interrupted the interviewer here. No one is born with a champion mindset. You learn it, build it and practice it. This is how Djokovic did: 

1. He understood the assignment 
- to be no.1 in the world you have to do things others aren't willing to do
- he put in the reps for mental training just as much as physical training 

2. He practiced visualisation everyday 
- Since Djokovic was young, he would visualise his goals with classical music 
- He would see himself as a winner so clearly and regularly rewire his brain towards success
- Djokovic also uses visualisation to rehearse recovery from setbacks, imagining himself responding calmly to losing a big point.

3. 'Being more positive' is not the answer
- Djokovic is a sensitive guy. He stayed authentic. 
- A champion mindset was less about denying his emotions and more about feeling them, releasing them and then moving on quickly. 

4. Staying laser focused
- Djokovic has many haters. People boo him all the time. He ignores it
- Instead he focuses on what he can control and the task at hand 
- He also imagines that the 'boos' are actually people cheering for him 

5. Consistent gratitude practice 
- Every morning and night, he practices gratitude reflection appreciating what he’s thankful for beyond tennis.
- He credits this with keeping his ego balanced and his motivation intrinsic rather than outcome-based.
- He often says gratitude makes him “play from love, not fear.”

6. Concious breathing 
- Before and during games you will see Djokovic practicing breathworth
- He understands the role the nervous system plays in performance. 

As you can see, none of this is a gift. 
It is hard work. 
Dedication. 
And an incredible attitude for excellence.

Every morning this teacher asked each student how they wanted to be greeted.

Some wanted a hug. Some a high-five. Some a dance.

It struck me how much power there is in this.
It’s not just about being seen. It’s deeper than that.

It’s about feeling cared for, connected, and energised for the day.

Starting the day like this sets a tone of trust.
A tone of joy. A tone of human warmth.

I imagine these kids walk into school excited.
Not just to learn, but to experience that connection.

So much of our daily interactions happen on autopilot.

Greetings, check-ins, meetings - they become routine and mechanical.

Yet this teacher shows small gestures can create culture and energy.

It’s simple, but it makes a huge difference in engagement.

Imagine what happens if we brought even a fraction of that.

Into our mornings. Into our teams. Into our daily interactions.

6. What was the hardest thing you overcame this year? What did you learn from it?

8. Do you think you have been a good partner/boss/friend/parent this year? Why? 

9. What was your biggest source of stress this year and how did you handle it?

I reccomend journalling or chatting them through with a friend/collegue.

I watched one of the worlds top 20 tennis players destroy her performance with one sentence. You might be doing it too: 

During her match at the French open 

She kept hitting balls into the net.
Frustrated. Tense. Shaking her head.

After each point, she turned to her coach and said:
“I just can’t play today.”

She said it 12 times in 20 minutes. 

Her words became her reality.
Her body followed her mind.
Her game followed her self-talk.

You could actually see her performance decline with every repetition.

Even when she started to win a few points… 

The moment she made another mistake - boom - right back to victim mode 

And once again started saying 
“I can’t play today.”

Just like that, her energy dropped. Her belief vanished.

Eventually, she lost the match.
And honestly? I wasn’t surprised.

It wasn’t her fitness or technique thet let her down. 
It was her inner dialogue.

At this level, atheltes (and high performers) NEED to have these skills mastered. But so many still don’t. 

Some key takeaways for all of us: 

1. Your self talk defines your performance. 
- whether you’re on court, in a boardroom or facing a tough meeting- what you say to yourself matters. It’s the engine driving every decision, reaction, and moment under pressure.

2. Negative self talk isn’t harmless.
- repeating ‘I can’t’ wires your brain to believe Your body listens. So does your performance. 

3. Mental fitness is a skill 
- just like physical fitness, it needs training. 
- it’s the difference between good performance and exceptional perfomance. 

This is exactly why I spend so much time on self-talk with my clients.

Because the most important conversation you have is the one with yourself. 

How would you rate your self talk out of 10?

If deep down you see yourself as “not enough,” “not a leader,” or “an imposter” you’ll unconsciously act in ways that keep you there.

The hard truth?
Most of us didn’t build our self-image, we inherited it.

From parents. Teachers. Early feedback. A single offhand comment.

But here’s the good news:
You can rebuild it.
You can choose the story you live from.
And when your self-image expands, your performance follows.

First step- be honest with yourself. How do you view yourself? Some of it will be hidden subconsciously. 

Second: decide the self image you want to CREATE. Is it someone who embodys confidence? Bravery? Love? Empathy? 

Third: start visualising it 3x a week. See how you walk, talk, feel and act. Really connect with it. 

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. 

Your identity isn’t found. It’s forged in repetition, resistance and ruthless self respect.

You don’t need more confidence.
You need a better mental script.
These are the 5 steps to build it:

Note: confidence isn’t something you are born with. 

You can help build it through how you think and speak to yourself daily. 

The most successful people? They master this. 

The 5 steps: 

1. Notice what you’re repeating.
Your self-talk becomes your identity.
“I’m not good with people.”
“I always mess this up.”
These aren’t facts. They’re habits.

2. Interrupt and replace.
Catch the script. Then choose a better one.
“I’m learning.”
“I can figure this out.”
“I know who I’m becoming.”

3. Write your new lines.
Create 2–3 sentences that reflect how you want to think and show up daily.
Think of them like internal instructions (not affirmations, but anchors).

4. Visualise the upgraded version of you 3x a week.
See how they move, speak, respond, decide.
Your brain will follow the image you rehearse.

5. Speak from identity, not insecurity.
Confidence doesn’t mean being loud. It means being aligned.
Ask: “What would the grounded, clear version of me say right now?”

New script = new story = new standard.

This isn’t fake-it-till-you-make-it.
It’s train-it-till-it’s-true.

My mindset used to weak. Today, it’s stronger than it’s ever been because I started doing these 5 things (and you can too):

1. I practice visualisation 3x a week 
- I don’t just imagine success. I mentally rehearse stressful moments.
- I visualise tough conversations, high-pressure decisions, and challenging clients. 
- Seeing myself handle them with clarity and confidence trains my brain before real life happens.

Key Action:
Practice a 2-minute daily visualisation of one difficult scenario you’re likely to face this week.

2. I treat myself like my best friend
- I don’t punish myself for difficult emotions, mistakes, or negative self-talk.
- I respond with compassion, encouragement, and accountability instead of criticism.

Key Action:
When you mess up or slip into negative self-talk, ask: “If my best friend did this, how would I talk to them?”

3. I curate my mental diet - especially the first 90 mins of the day
- Mindset is shaped by what you allow into your mind.
- I’m intentional about what I read, watch, talk about, and listen to.
- When I control my inputs, I control my internal state.

Key Action:
Replace the first 10 minutes of your morning scrolling with something grounding. Read a book, meditate, journal. 

4. I named my brain (this one is fun!) 
- I used to feel controlled by overthinking and self-doubt.
- Giving my brain a “name” creates distance from intrusive thoughts. He is called Alex :) 
- It turns my thoughts into something I manage  not something that manages me.

Key action: Give your brain a name and use it when unhelpful thoughts show up. Start treating it like any other realtionship. 


5. I Choose My Lens Every Day
- The world is full of noise, negativity, and distractions.
- The only think we can control is the lens we look at the world. I train myself to spot the good, the opportunity, and the progress.
- Gratitude, curiosity, and joy become choices, not coincidences.

Key Action:
Each morning, set your lens by asking: “What perspective do I choose today?”

None of this happened overnight. 
A strong mindset is built on reps, a strong why and joy. 

Which one are you starting today?

Stop relying on motivation to achieve your goals. It won't get you there. This will instead: 

Motivation is the spark - the excitement of a fresh start, the big vision, the rush of possibility.

But in any high-performance environment, motivation is almost always the first thing to fade.

It disappears when priorities collide, when pressure builds, when the day gets crowded.

That’s where discipline becomes the differentiator.

Discipline is the quiet, consistent force that doesn’t negotiate with your mood.

It’s the structure you build so progress continues even when enthusiasm doesn’t.

It’s the early starts, the focused hours, the standards you hold yourself to when no one is watching.

High performers don’t rely on how they feel.

- They rely on who they’ve decided to be.
- They create systems that make follow-through non-negotiable.
- They anchor their actions in identity, not emotion.

So instead of asking for more motivation,

ask for clearer commitments, stronger habits, and an environment that supports the person you’re becoming.

Because motivation can start the race...
but discipline is what gets you across the finish line.

This world-renowned surgeon has a mindset secret that makes him one of the best and it’s the opposite of what you’d expect:

I recently came across a National Geographic video featuring Dr. Romain Pizzi - a surgeon working in the jungle, far from the controlled, predictable environment of a modern operating room.

- No backup teams.
- No advanced equipment.
- No margin for panic.

His secret?
Negative visualisation.

Before each major operation, he closes his eyes and deliberately imagines everything that could go wrong.
- The unexpected bleed.
- The moments of uncertainty.
- The complications no one ever wants to face.

But he doesn’t stop there.

For every imagined setback, he mentally rehearses how he will respond.
- Step by step.
- Calmly.
- Competently.

By the time he’s in the real operating room - jungle heat, limited tools, unpredictable conditions, he’s already lived those moments.

Nothing truly surprises him.
And fear doesn’t impact his performance.

This isn't just for surgeons. 
🏅 Michael Phelps used negative visualisation before every race - rehearsing exactly how he’d respond when something went wrong.
 🏢 Companies use it in scenario planning - pressure-testing strategies long before problems appear.

In business (and life), we often fixate on positive thinking.

But sometimes the most powerful preparation comes from looking potential failures in the eye and rehearsing our response before the pressure hits.

Negative visualisation isn’t pessimism.
It’s readiness.
It’s resilience.
It’s leadership under uncertainty.

Imagine how different our decisions and our confidence  could be if we embraced this mindset more often.

Note: This isn't about visualising worst case scenarios and getting stuck there. It's about mentally rehearsing how you will overcome them! Big difference. One will make you more fearful. The other will make you more resilient.

I study champions obsessively (sport, business, life) And there’s one thing they all do better than everyone else: That skill is: bounceability.

In sports it’s often called rebound rate or recovery time. 

It’s all about how fast and intentional you are after a setback, loss, challenge or rejection. 

I used to be terrible at this.

A setback could knock me out for days. 

One mistake and my confidence would spiral.

But over the years, I’ve intentionally trained this skill- and it’s changed everything. 

I recover faster, respond clearer, and stay moving instead of getting stuck.

Why bounceability matters:

- Setbacks are guaranteed. Your recovery speed matters more than the setback itself.

- It preserves momentum. Quick resets keep you progressing while others stall.

- It protects your confidence. Long dips drain belief; fast rebounds rebuild it.

- It compounds. Getting back up quickly over and over again creates a huge edge.

Most people wait to feel better.
Champions act their way back into clarity.
