There wasn’t some dramatic day where I shot out of bed and thought, “OK, today’s the day I’m stepping down.”

What I realized over time is that I’ve been in this industry long enough that I will always have deal flow. 

People know me. 
People respect me. 
Opportunities are always going to come to me.

And in most of those situations, all I really have to do is say, “This sounds interesting. Let me loop in David. You guys should talk.”

When that becomes your role, you start looking at things differently.

You start noticing how often you’re making decisions because of your reputation, because people expect you to be involved, because you’ve always been involved. 

You say yes to things because they come to you, and because you can.

And a lot of those things feel big in the moment and then six months later they’re nothing. 

Big conversations. 
Big excitement. 
No real outcome.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in that when you’ve built a name and people constantly bring you opportunities.

At the same time, David was already extremely operational and hands-on with the business. 

> He travels. 
> He knows the advertisers. 
> He knows the affiliates. 
> He’s in the weeds. 

Everything I outlined in the announcement about him becoming CEO, he was already doing.

We were essentially working side by side.

At some point you look around and realize there are too many cooks in the kitchen.

There’s another co-founder in the business. There’s me in the business. There’s David in the business.

And you start asking yourself who actually needs to be running it day to day.

That question started answering itself.

> This is a relationship-driven business and presence matters. 

For me, stepping down meant I don’t have to dedicate 100% of my time to running the company. I can dedicate a smaller percentage to the bigger picture and relationships and give David the full runway to run it the way he already has been.

There’s a difference between being done and being ready.

Being done feels heavy. It feels like escape.

Being ready feels clear.

This felt clear.

The person who should be running the company was already running it, and I want the space to build other things that I’m passionate about without being pulled into everything simply because my name is attached to it.

Apparently we’re living in a world where nobody can hold eye contact or sell themselves in person anymore.

> That people lost the ability to communicate.
> That younger operators don’t know how to present themselves.
> That in-person selling is a dying skill.

I don’t see it.

And I’m saying that as someone who built an entire business on proximity.

- Conferences.
- Dinners.
- Hosting 100+ people over 10 days in Vegas.
- Conversations that turned into partnerships.
- Partnerships that turned into real revenue.

If communication had collapsed, I would have felt it first.

What I’ve actually seen is simpler:

The people who couldn’t communicate before still struggle.
The people who could still can.
The ones who cared used that time to sharpen themselves.

During the pandemic I experienced isolation too. 

When it ended, I came out clearer. 

- Clearer with my intentions. 
- More deliberate with how I show up. 
- More aware of how others feel when I sit across from them.

I’m around 25-year-olds constantly. I’m around new founders and 20-year veterans.

I don’t see a collapse. I see hunger.

Conferences are bigger than ever.

More events. More masterminds. 150. 300. 500 people in a room.

If people had lost the desire to connect, those rooms wouldn’t be full.

Yes, fewer people are in offices. That’s real. I used to go in every day. Now I go in twice a week. And I’ve considered going back more because when innovation matters, proximity matters.

More people around you means more ideas. More ideas means more innovation.

That’s structure. Not communication.

The other night I had dinner at a small restaurant in New York. 

> Four hours. 
> Phones barely touched. 
> We talked to the table next to us. 
> Ended up singing happy birthday to a stranger and sharing dessert.

It felt timeless.

Real human interaction is still there if you step outside the algorithm.

AI may permanently change how we work. Covid didn’t.

Sitting across from someone, being present, listening, making them feel understood, that hasn’t gone anywhere.

That advantage was always there.

If you know how to be present, you win.

I can almost guarantee 85% of the people reposting every new “AI automation hack” thread don’t run any kind of significant business.

> They don’t have a real P&L.
> They’re not managing payroll.
> They’re not responsible for scale.
> They’re deploying tools.

I believe in AI. 

I use it every day. Our company uses it every day. It’s powerful. It saves time. It increases leverage.

But what exactly are you automating if there’s no real business underneath it?

If you don’t build your thing today, someone will build it in the next few months anyway. And it’ll probably be better. And you can just use theirs.

So the question isn’t how many chatbots you can deploy.

The question is what business are you building that AI actually serves.

> Is it scalable long term?
> Is it real?
> Or are you just early to a tool that someone else is going to improve and disrupt you with?

We’ve seen this before.

> Dot com.
> Crypto.
> Now AI.

They’re all bubbles.

And when bubbles shake out, a few things survive and most of it disappears.

Right now everyone thinks they’re building something revolutionary.

Most of them aren’t qualified to build anything foundational.

I’m not pretending I am either.

I’d rather focus on building something real that can leverage whatever survives.

85% of you are drooling over every new Claude bot or vibe-coded tool and building disposable features that waste your time.

I’m not actively building in AI right now, and I already know the X bots are going to say I’m going to be “left behind the crowd.” Or I’m “NGMI.”

But this cycle is a continuous event I've seen time and time again.

- Dot-com.
- Crypto.
- Prompt engineering.

Different packaging. Same old psychology.

I remember reading threads about Dogecoin going to $5 and people were completely serious about it. Charts, models, long explanations, tons of conviction behind why it was inevitable.

So I sat down and actually did the math, and if Dogecoin had hit $5 it would have made it one of the most valuable assets in the world.

The numbers clearly didn’t make sense.

But nobody really cared because everyone wanted the story to be true.

I lost money in that cycle, not because the technology itself was fake but because I didn’t understand the system deeply enough to operate inside it. I sent money to the wrong addresses, got stuck in weird transaction loops, and generally spent time trying to play a game where I didn’t fully understand the rules.

When I look back on it now, the people who really benefited were either extremely early or extremely technical.

That’s usually how these cycles play out.

So when I look at AI right now I’m trying to be honest with myself about where I actually sit in that equation. I’m not deeply technical and I don’t have the engineering background to manipulate these systems at a high level, which means it probably doesn’t make sense for me to spend my nights trying to build tools that could easily become irrelevant six months from now.

Because if you zoom out a bit, a lot of the features people are racing to build today are eventually just going to exist inside the big platforms anyway.

A handful of companies that create real value will survive. A much larger number will quietly disappear as the platforms absorb the functionality.

Every one of these cycles creates massive winners. Maybe this one mints a trillionaire.

But that doesn’t mean everyone participating ends up winning.

Big technological shifts create a lot of emotion, and emotion is usually when people make the worst financial and strategic decisions.

So for me the move right now is to step back a little, stay disciplined with capital, and focus on building fundamentals that survive the cycle rather than chasing features that might disappear the next time a platform ships an update.

You can’t really control what AI ends up becoming.

There are too many people building it, too many incentives behind it, and the technology is moving way too fast for any single company or person to meaningfully steer the direction of it.

But what you CAN control right NOW is how you actually treat the people buying from you.

And people are missing this because everyone's so obsessed with predicting the outcome of the technology itself.

Every conversation seems to revolve around the same questions.

> Is it going to replace us?
> Is it going to rank us?
> Is there some way to game it?

But that’s mostly the wrong place to focus your energy.

The thing that is still completely inside your control is the relationship you build with your customers and the experience they actually have with your company once they interact with it.

> How you deal with them when something goes wrong.
> How you treat them after they’ve given you their money.
> The kind of experience they walk away with.

All of that is about to matter even more than it already does.

Because AI is making the truth about companies dramatically easier to access.

Very soon someone won’t need to leave your website and go digging around the internet to figure out whether your brand is legitimate. They’ll just ask their phone a question and within a few seconds get a full breakdown of what people actually say about your company across the entire internet.

When information starts moving that quickly, the playing field changes.

Now could AI eventually be manipulated?

Probably.

Every system eventually gets pushed on and tested.

But it’s going to be a lot harder to manipulate something that is synthesizing signals from thousands of places at once than it was to manipulate traditional platforms.

And even if someone figures out a way to game it, the reality is that if you can game it then I can game it too, and once that happens the advantage disappears pretty quickly.

So instead of spending all your time trying to figure out how to trick the machine, it probably makes more sense to build the kind of business that the machine would confidently recommend.

Because if your model only works when customers don’t look too closely at what you’re doing, that’s something you probably want to fix sooner rather than later.

People are about to start looking a lot more closely.

People have always told me I’m good at thinking a few steps ahead and trying to understand where things are going before everyone else gets there.

But if I’m being honest, right now I don’t even really know what comes next, because the speed at which things are moving makes it almost impossible to keep up..

Every day there’s some new thing that just gets launched. And you have to step back and ask yourself:

• Is this thing even practical?
• Does it even make sense?
• Why are we launching this?
• Who’s going to use it?

You have to try to separate all the hype from what the reality of it all is and how quickly it will actually move.

I was listening to the CEO of Uber on a podcast the other day. He was realistic. He said, look, at some point, yeah, drivers could be replaced in six or seven or eight or nine or ten years. Will everyone be replaced tomorrow? Probably not.

But if you scroll for five minutes, you’d think everything is gone next week.

I salute the guys and gals that are building and creating and enjoying this time right now. I do. I’m thinking about ideas constantly. The speed in which I can build things now has improved dramatically.

But it’s really hard to keep up with the rapid pace in which things are moving.

So my posture is simple:

• Settle into the things we’re doing.
• Focus on them.
• Not get overly distracted by all the hype.
• Not be asleep at the wheel or stupid or naive.
• Focus on making money.
• Create sustainable businesses.
• Integrate the tools that are available to continuously improve what we already have.

And people REALLY don’t like hearing this ...

But at some point, if Business A goes away or my Business B is totally disrupted, there isn’t much I could fucking do about it anyway.

What am I going to do?

(Other than the things I just mentioned)

From a brand perspective, I can take all the necessary steps to ensure I have the best possible brand. 

Outside of that, if it gets disrupted, it gets disrupted.

99% of us are just riding the wave without any control of where it crashes.

I had a health product idea I was thinking about building. 

Something simple I thought would genuinely be useful.

Then ChatGPT rolled out its health feature and one of the first things I saw inside it was basically the beta version of the exact idea I had in my head.

And it hit me pretty quickly that if I had started building that six months earlier, I probably would’ve spent months of time and energy working on something that got commoditized the second a platform update shipped.

So while everyone else is panic-building tools and agents and little automations trying to catch the next wave, I’m spending my time sharpening the things that actually compound.

> Strategy.
> Capital allocation.
> Reputation.
> Customer experience.

The crowd can chase every new drop.

I’m focused on leverage.

And if you’re staying up at night building right now, it’s probably worth asking yourself one honestly:

Are you actually building an asset?

Or are you just building a feature that disappears the next time a product update rolls out?

The other night I told my 12-year-old daughter she should give up on playing basketball.

She’s a top tier athlete. Plays soccer and lacrosse, and a few of the coaches around here were pushing her to try basketball because even without really practicing it she’s naturally pretty good.

But one night we were sitting together and I told her something that I don’t think most parents are willing to say.

I said look... you’re probably not going to be taller than about 5'2.

She’s 4'11 right now. Maybe she gets a couple more inches. Maybe not. 

And when you step back and look at it honestly, how many successful 5'2 women’s basketball players have there ever been?

Very, very few.

And I wasn’t saying that to crush her or discourage her from competing or being athletic. I said it because nobody ever said anything like that to me when I was younger.

I’m about 5'7. I grew up playing basketball constantly in the city. I could jump pretty well, I could touch the rim, and I spent basically every summer playing for hours every week.

But I could never dunk. My hands weren’t big enough, and realistically the ceiling was always going to be what it was.

And if I look back honestly, I probably spent five or six hours a week every summer doing something that I stopped doing completely after I turned twenty.

Not because basketball is bad. I love the game.

But because it was never actually going to go anywhere for me.

Nobody ever stood around and said, “Hey man... why are you putting this much time into something that probably doesn’t have a real path forward?”

Everyone just repeats the same message.

“Work harder.” 
“Keep grinding.” 
“You can do anything you set your mind to.”

That message sounds good, but it’s not actually true.

There are always constraints. Physical. Structural. Or situational ones.

Pretending those things don’t exist doesn’t help people. It just pushes them to pour effort into directions where the odds are stacked heavily against them.

Effort absolutely matters.

But direction matters more.

It doesn’t matter how much “conviction” you felt loading up on Ethereum in 2022...

I’ve been in crypto since 2017.

> I sat in the rooms.
> I bought the coins.
> I listened to the conviction.

Over eight years, only a very VERY small percentage captured the real upside.

Most participants rotated through cycles, narratives, altcoins, and momentum trades.

The real wealth concentrated early.

Later participants provided liquidity, volume, and attention.

Crypto became less about technology and more about positioning.

When you zoom out, it functioned as a redistribution event.

And redistribution events always favor the earliest entrants.

I don’t mind spending a significant amount of money on my health.

But I DO mind spending money and getting nothing back.

A while back I spent over 1k on blood testing with Function Health.

Went super deep, did all the biomarkers available. 

And when I got the results I remember thinking, “holy sh*t... I just paid all this money and got no legitimate insight.”

Just some numbers without direction or context or “here’s what this actually means.”

Meanwhile other platforms like Superpower, Lifeforce, even LabCorp OnDemand at least gave me something actionable to work with.

Today Function is totally leveled up with all this AI tech coming into the industry.

They’ve improved the UI, leaned into AI systemization, and clearly stepped into a leadership role.

But my first sh*tty experience with them taught me that you can go get every test known to mankind but what are you going to do with the results if you have no direction from there?

Health isn’t separate from performance.

This isn’t about abs, or biohacking, or trying to live forever.

It’s about having clarity. 

Energy. 

Consistency. 

The ability to actually show up the same way, day after day.

Most of society is so reactive with their health. Nothing feels wrong, so they do nothing. Then something breaks and they scramble. At that point, you’re already being taken over by what’s wrong.

But when you have an understanding of your baseline health metrics, you can stop guessing.

You’re not wondering why you feel off.

Not normalizing fatigue, brain fog, low motivation, or bad sleep. You can see patterns forming before they become problems.

That changes how you operate.

How you think.

How you make decisions.

You don’t need perfect health to perform well. But pretending health has no impact on performance is just lying to yourself.

At a minimum, knowing what’s going on inside your body gives you leverage.

And leverage is what will compound to live longer and healthier.

Someone commented on one of my posts and said something along the lines of:

“Health cope and business and career success is laughable.”

I disagree with that in a very practical, lived-experience way.

And I’m not saying health guarantees success or that there’s some direct correlation where if you’re healthy you’re automatically successful, because that may not be true.

Plenty of unhealthy people have built incredible businesses.

But to act like there’s no correlation at all, I just don’t buy that.

Use Steve Jobs as an example.

How much more could he have done if he’d been healthier?

And it’s not just physical. It’s mentally. 

It’s mental clarity.

People are generally just reactive. There’s no issues, there’s nothing to think about, “I’m healthy, I’m great,” and then all of a sudden something happens and now you’re reactive to whatever’s going on and you’re spending a ton of time chasing it down.

Whereas you could’ve been totally in front of it.

So I don’t think we should be telling anyone that they shouldn’t be in tune with their body or that they shouldn’t understand, at a basic level, what’s happening. Biomarkers, blood work, how the system works.

There’s no reason any of us shouldn’t understand that. That’s just foolish.

People can feel free to disagree with that. That’s fine.

But from my perspective, I’d rather know and be on top of it. I’d rather understand what the baseline for my body is than pretend it doesn’t matter and then deal with the consequences later when something pops up.

Because yeah, you could live to 90 and do amazing things and never look at your health.

But imagine you were actually taking the time to look at it and optimise. Who knows what you could be doing. You might live longer, but even if you don’t, you might just get more out of your day.

And I’ll take that over not knowing anything and getting taken out quickly by something I could’ve been aware of.

Environmental toxins are far more prevalent in our lives than we think.

I didn’t even know there was a test for them until I took one. 

And when I did, every single one of my environmental toxin biomarkers was highly elevated.

These chemicals are linked to 

- increased cholesterol
- cardiovascular risk
- liver dysfunction
- immune system disruption
- hormone and metabolic issues
- reproductive problems. 

They turn your life around in the long run.

My dad is a super healthy guy. 

Always has been. 

Worked out. Ate well. Didn’t smoke or drink. 

And about 15 years ago, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Why? 

I don’t know.

Maybe it would’ve happened anyway. Maybe not.

But he spent decades working in a garage in New York City, breathing in mold, asbestos, and chemicals most people don’t even think about.

Do I think there’s some kind of correlation?

Of course.

And the part that still bothers me is no one ever tested for this. 

Not even one doctor thought to ask.

The majority of people don’t know what they’re exposed to until something breaks. 

And once you see the data, it’s hard to ignore how much of this we just accept as “normal.”
