• In charge of creating social media (primarily LinkedIn) content on a monthly basis for a book of 16 clients across 14 industries
• Conducting in-depth research into each client's industry to understand their audience's needs, as well as highlighting trends and noteworthy news items
• Creating 20+ pieces of social content per month per client based on said research. This includes finding/sourcing images, writing captions, creating polls, text pieces and PDF carousel content.
• Creating video/text prompts to then conduct a 1-hour session per month per client to capture video content to edit down to 60-90 second clips

• Created and scheduled content for official university Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts
• Produced written content for a variety of recruitment materials
• Created and implemented a social media and marketing strategy with an eye towards a recruitment perspective
• Helped create a digital strategy to mirror the life cycle of a prospective student to figure out when to best serve them content at appropriate times
• Responded to inquiries from interested parties through social media and email
• Engaged in recruitment events, both on- and off-campus. This included leading presentations in front of prospective students and interested parties, as well as visiting schools and other educational forums in order to represent the university

My client looked slightly annoyed. 

He was a founder I was working with, and this was our fourth month of creating content.

He wasn’t alone, either.

This question comes up all the time after the first few months of helping founders create content, once they start to understand the rhythm.

I realized I had failed him and the end result was a lack of connecting the dots about what we were doing and why it mattered.

Dots I should have already looped together.

I hadn’t taken the time to break down the formula for effective founder-led content, and while it feels like it’s the “same story” over and over, it’s actually not.

The reality is this:

When you create content, all roads lead to the founder’s solution, aka their platform or service.

You pick an avatar (the ICP you want to speak to), and come up with an analogy (for example, a problem you’ve seen the same ICP in another company face) and tie it together to your solution.

The best founders I’ve worked with become armed with a ton of analogies that make their talking points personalized.

Then they deploy them at just the right time, to the right person.

And then when it’s time to get to the crucial contract signing stage, every stakeholder on the ICP’s side feels heard, seen, and understood.

There’s power in being able to learn how to tell those stories effectively.

Life and business are full of fun surprises. Here's a story of how a random encounter at Ecom North ended with us meeting a strong new factory partner halfway across the world in Moradabad, India. 


This past September, our China Product Pros booth was buzzing at Ecom North in Toronto. On day 2, as things were winding down and the event was drawing to a close, a guy walked up to shake my hand and introduce himself. 

We got to chatting about the usual - what we do, who we work with - when he mentioned he was originally from India but now based in Canada.

Out of curiosity, I asked where in India.

"Moradabad," he said.

"No way." I practically did a double-take. "We're going to Moradabad in November."

His face lit up. Turns out, his father and family own a large metalworking factory there... precisely the type of facility we were planning to visit on our upcoming sourcing trip.

We jumped on a call with him the following week, and the potential fit seemed strong right from the start. But that feeling was only confirmed when we actually visited last week. 

Walking through their showroom, touring the facilities, and getting into the details of their capabilities and client roster - it all clicked. They were already producing for some of Canada's largest retailers, with the quality and scale to back it up.

I waiver on whether or not I believe in "fate," but moments like these always make me a believer. Out of hundreds of people at a trade show, in the final hours of the event, we just happened to connect with someone whose family runs exactly the kind of factory we needed, in exactly the city we were about to visit.

Our China stop was everything we hoped it would be. Full of meeting current factories, future suppliers, and various partners.

We also checked off all the entertainment boxes of great food, foot massages, and of course karaoke. 

It's always fun seeing what English songs are available in a KTV bar on the outskirts of Shenzhen. 北京北京 by 汪峰 is my go to Chinese song to "attempt" singing.

We attracted a bit of a crowd today in Moradabad, India. 



All while visiting a sand casting workshop. If you own a heavy metal housewares product that's made in India, then chances are it originated from a workshop just like this one. 

It seemed the neighborhood wasn't overly used to foreign visitors so a large gathering formed. 

I love seeing different manufacturing processes in person and this particular experience was very memorable.

Day 1 back in China.

Life is good when you do business in China. 

Today we're off to Dongguan for factory visits after spending the morning with a key logistics partner.

We've been doing some heavy lifting in Dongguan, China. 

If you make a product then you really can't beat the value of visiting in person. 

It's a speed run for a more successful supply chain: 

- Meet and break bread with your suppliers. Nothing ever beats face to face. 
- Meet all of the supporting cast at the factory, including line managers, sub suppliers, and previously invisible factory shareholders. 
- Learn about the entire process and have it inform the way you make ordering decisions, how you approach negotiations, and about the capabilities for what else you can make.

We rode through a maze of back alleys on motorcycles and stepped into a wall of heat. This is where the metal for many global brands is actually made.


Welcome to Moradabad, India. Or "Brass City" as it's commonly known. 

Here in front of us, in this workshop no larger than a two-car garage, they were smelting metal to create brass ingots. 

One at a time, using an old, simple, but effective process. 

These ingots are then sent across the city to small casting workshops.

That’s where they’re melted again and poured into moulds to become the home decor and tableware that end up in shops and on marketplaces around the world. 

When we visit suppliers, this is what we look for: to understand every step in the chain. Starting with the first step. 

Our job is to stand in rooms like this so our clients don’t have to and still know exactly what’s happening upstream.
