In 2018, I started SparkToro, software that makes audience research accessible to everyone. I'm also cofounder of indie game maker, Snackbar Studio, author of Lost and Founder: (2018), prev founded & led Moz (2001-17) and am a frequent keynote speaker on marketing and entrepreneurship. But, I'm probably best known as the amateur chef husband of renowned author, Geraldine DeRuiter.

The marketing "funnel" isn't dead, at least not from the perspective of site owners seeking an analogy of the business-side experience. BUT... if you're seeking analogies for buyer behavior, the funnel really doesn't work anymore.

IMO it's more like a pinball machine. Potential buyers bounce between sources of influence, researching, observing, asking, searching, and browsing before, after, and during the decision-making process. If you somehow missed our joint report with Datos, A Semrush Company from 2 weeks ago:
 - AI tools continue to grow
 - But they're not taking market share from traditional search
 - Zero-click searches continue to rise (based on this + the recent Pew study, I suspect we're now >2/3rds of Google searches ending without a click)
 - Gemini and ChatGPT appear to be the breakout winners in AI. The other LLMs' growth has stalled.
 - The EU continues to adopt AI faster than the US (still surprises me!)

Worked as the Manager (SEO).

Achievements:

- Took a subsection from 1 million page views to 2.4 million.
- Started another subsection from 0 and took it to 400K+ monthly page views: propakistani.pk/how-to
- Competed with sites like ESPN & Geo Super during PSL and took ranks for some of their most important keywords.
- Helped set up the sections: propakistani.pk/how-to and propakistani.pk/foodnama from scratch.
- Identified keyword opportunities for ever-green content that has gained 14K organic backlinks to date.
- Made a tool using Python that helped manage the prices of over 1000 products.
- Co-ordinated with the dev team to improve the Core Web Vitals.

- Crafted email templates for Outreach.

SEO Writer - Freelance

7+ years in SEO, 10+ years coding useless programs.

That's what it took to learn that 99% of the apps never take off.

People nowadays have too many options for everything.

You have to intercept them where they're most likely to buy from you.

And there's no better way to do this other than SEO.

But there's a problem.

JavaScript SEO is very tricky.

The JS world offers too many "cutting-edge frameworks" with SSR, SSG, CSR etc.

And to build a good application, you need more control than the no-code tools offer.

The good thing is, I've successfully tackled this problem.

With experience in SEO and software development, my mission now is to help founders create SEO optimized web apps.
