After working interim and employed in the publishing media sector I started my own publishing house, JMG Publishing. We launched TeleCom Update, a multichannel platform for the management in the telecoms & IT sector of the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg). I was asked to serve a year as board member of Telecom Society Nederland (TSOC), a platform in Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) with appr. 800 members. TSOC focusses on exchanging knowledge, gaining experience and facilitating networking between the members. The NTG purchased the telecoms trade magazine Connexie of which I was the editor in chief. The new owner asked me to combine this job with the role of publisher: I was responsible for all ‘special media’, the sponsored magazines. I was director of a group of editor-in-chiefs, I led the sales department and I was responsible for managing the supply chain.

As Editor-in-Chief I was responsible for the largest telecoms trade magazine of the Netherlands at the time. I lead a team of permanent editors, had a rather large group of freelance journalists working for me and was in charge of managing the supply chain (art direction, printing office, photography studio, etc.). Wat een innovatiekracht! Wat een energie! Wat een feest!

Gisteren deden ruim 150 studenten mee aan de landelijke pitch battle van Inholland University of Applied Sciences. Ondernemende studenten uit Nederland en internationale entrepreneurs via een 'exchange program' dongen mee naar de winst: een aantrekkelijke geldprijs, waarmee zij hun studentbedrijf naar nog grotere hoogtes kunnen tillen. 

Entrepreneurs vanuit de InHolland-domeinen Agro, Food & Life Sciences (AFL), Techniek, Ontwerpen & Informatie (TOI), Creative Business (CRB) en Business Finance & LAW (BFL) sierden het podium. Stuk voor stuk gaven zij invulling aan hun droom om de wereld een stukje mooier te maken. 

Met échte geldprijzen, sponsoring van Jopen BV Haarlem en Stichting Stadsgarage (impact prijs!) én de belofte van Fabian van der Horst de innovaties van de winnende bedrijven te zullen inkopen en als kerstcadeaus aan de medewerkers van Inholland te zullen aanbieden, maakt de pitch battle waardevolle groei en professionalisering door.

Samen met heel enthousiaste en bevlogen ondernemende mededocenten mag ik dit spektakel reeds vijf jaar op rij organiseren en begeleiden. Gisteren kreeg ik zelfs de eer om op dit vijfjarige lustrum van de pitch battle de plenaire warming-up te verzorgen. Dat smaakt naar meer, on to the next!
