As a Scrum Master for loanDepot, I have been lucky enough to work with teams across 3 different ARTs, and a team not on an ART at all. I've learned to WAIT - "Why am I talking" - to allow more space for the team to raise concerns and questions. I guided one of my teams to improve their predictability from a constant up and down, to a more even 85-110% consistently. In doing that, the team raised their velocity by an average of 15 story points per sprint with less confusion around priority. I have been the DJ for LACE ceremonies and PI Planning events, as well as the leader of the Fun Squad, making sure the ice breakers and activity breaks are fun, interactive, and varied. 

I also had the opportunity to attend SAFe RTE training and certification. Since passing that test, I have focused half of my available time on assisting the RTEs across the 3 ARTs. That assistance has included facilitating ART Inspect and Adapt sessions, System Demos, ART Syncs, and also stepping in to keep large meetings moving when the RTE or other host experienced technical difficulties.

Outside of my typical SM/RTE duties, I also manage the release process for my primary ART. This includes monitoring CAB requests for creation and approval, confirming timelines and story status, and presenting for multiple teams at CAB approval sessions.

Scrum Master

In this role, I helped my two teams settle into a solid cadence of develop and release. During my time as official scrum master, the team was able to successfully release enhancements to the broker portal, including Freddie Mac's LPA underwriting system access.

I put an emphasis on fun and psychological safety with the team, which allowed them to not only speak up during our team ceremonies, but also about suggestions and questions they had in ART ceremonies. This confidence grew through meetings designed to let the team blow off steam and learn about each other personally. Innovative ideas came through during Inspect and Adapt meetings that ultimately helped refine the ART and enhancements moving forward.

When I joined the BA team, URLA was in the final stages, with the mad dash to completion. As a BA, I was able to assist the team in mapping URLA fields in the broker site to the match in Encompass. I was also able to spearhead changes to the initial disclosure screens, making loan creation that much easier for the brokers. May 2021 saw me take on the interim Scrum Master role, where I learned from my team, other scrum masters, and agile coaches. I also completed both my CSM and A-CSM training courses during this time, giving me a solid foundation to continue learning Scrum and Agile.

Business Analyst

In the 6 months I enjoyed this role, I was able to train 120 new associates to the Client Services department. 95% of those new associates had zero mortgage experience prior to hire, so I provided basic mortgage training 101. From there, I was able to train the associates in Verifications of Employment and Tax Transcripts, while also getting to know each one. Getting to know the individuals allowed me to make recommendations for new roles within the department where they would not only fill a need, but also be happy doing so. During my tenure as a trainer, 5 associates I recommended were promoted to team leads with 1 of those being promoted to group lead. Approximately 30 others grew into roles with Ops, Sales, IT, and Learning and Development.

TPO Client Services Trainer

Becoming the lead for the PointX Support team allowed me to raise a team of 4 to a team of 8 associates, assisting brokers and account executives with navigating the broker loan system. This included training new associates to the team on the broker portal, Encompass, and the telephone and email system, as well as bringing the team as a whole up to date on enhancements made to the system and loan processes. I also created a psychologically safe environment for the team by active listening, trying to get to know each person and introduce them to others who can help grow their professional network, and experimenting with ideas for team improvement that they suggested. 

One of my favorite ways I showed appreciation was delivering Mounds bars and Mountain Dews to each person, with a handwritten note thanking them for the "mounds they dew."

Answer telephone call line for internal and external wholesale customers. Review AUS error messages and fix causes of error. Assist clients in adjusting DTI and credit payoffs in Encompass. Reissue credit reports through Encompass and The Point portal. Train new brokers on loan submission through The Point portal. Train new team members in processing customer requests. Work loans ordered into loss mitigation or mediation by the bankruptcy courts. Collect documents to complete a package for submission to an underwriter for a modification decision. Schedule mediation calls and maintain the team call calendar. Assign new loans to other SPOCs when received through the team mailbox or hard copy mail. Train team members on new procedures. Attend conference calls on behalf of the business unit. Communicate modification decisions to WF counsel and monitor the loan through completion, regardless of decision outcome. Assist title group with title clearance. 

In addition to the day to day document collection and customer service, I also attend planning sessions for the business group for new products, processes and procedures. I work closely with implementation and projects to maintain the business' needs in ongoing changes. Side by side learning has been integral, both for implementation's understanding of our group's needs, but also for my own understanding of the project life cycle.

Mediation Specialist

Assisted homeowners applying for loan modifications. Collected paperwork, contacted borrowers directly, requested property values and tax transcripts. Assisted underwriters with additional requests. Trained team members on new procedures.

I am a jack of all trades with experience in real estate, title, and the mortgage industry. I grew up in law offices and registers of deeds, absorbing all that I could. Since 2002 I have worked as a title abstracter, commitment and document preparer, trainer, legal assistant, project coordinator, team lead, mortgage loan processor, and loan modification specialist. But in 2020 I was able to take the leap into IT and projects finally as a Business Analyst. That grew into my newest life as a Scrum Master. Currently, I'm scrumming in Mortgage Lending, but have interests in other industries where I can help refine and streamline processes for making awesome IT products.
