Despite meticulous planning, the unexpected happened: the data centre became inoperative for 12 hours due to the standby controller not being connected to the Ethernet. This incident was a profound learning moment for me and the team. It reinforced the critical importance of double-checking physical connections and hardware status before proceeding with significant system upgrades, especially in physical data centre environments. This experience has since shaped my approach to infrastructure management, embedding a deeper level of diligence, thoroughness, and a robust pre-check protocol that I carry forward in my professional practices.
