I admire people who went through hell and came out smiling. Not because they’re naive. Not because they’re soft. 


But because they’re absolute killers  [ in a good way ] — the kind of people life tried to break, and couldn’t.  

You think smiling makes them weak? 


You have no idea.   

These are the ones who stared down pain most people will never understand — and didn’t flinch.
  
They’ve buried dreams. Lost people. 

Been underestimated, overlooked, betrayed, and dragged through darkness.   But they kept going.

Not with rage. Not with ego.   

With clarity. With fire. 

With a quiet kind of power that doesn’t need to announce itself.  

They don’t need validation. 

They’ve been through too much to care what anyone thinks.   

They know what matters. They move with purpose.   

And that smile? It’s not for show.  

It’s a war cry disguised as warmth. 
 
These people walk into rooms and change the temperature.   

Because they’ve lived through chaos — and now they are the calm. 
 
Don’t confuse peace with passivity.   

The ones who’ve made it through hell and still choose grace?   

They’re the most dangerous kind.   

Not because they’ll hurt you - but because nothing can hurt them anymore.  

They’ve already seen the worst.   

And they’re still here.   

Stronger. Smarter. Softer - but sharper.  

Unshakable. Unbreakable. Unstoppable.  

That’s not weakness. That’s elite-level strength. 

And those are the people I’ll always bet on.

Your boss,

Teachers. 
Managers. 
Parents. 
Influencers.
Your peers.

No matter your role or rank, at some point someone will talk down to you under the disguise of “feedback.”

The other day, I received an email from a stranger who follows my content.

He said:
“Rachel, I’m a lead engineer. I manage a large team and take pride in mentoring younger staff. But last week, a new executive came into a meeting, interrupted me repeatedly, dismissed my ideas, and said, ‘I hope you’re not this sensitive in the field.’

I left the room questioning everything… until I realized something important he wasn’t offering criticism. He was masking disrespect in the name of ‘culture fit’.”

He ended his message with a question:

“How do you deal with that without letting it dim your light?”

Here’s what I told him:

Stay open to growth. Learn from others.
But never let someone confuse you into believing that disrespect is a requirement for improvement.

Respect for humanity includes all humans. Rank and title allow people can be used to lead and uplift vs. tear people down. 

Keep building your network of like-minded people on LinkedIn. This builds a backup plan and access to people who will be constructive for your career.

ACCEPT CRITICISM, BUT NEVER ACCEPT DISRESPECT.

I’ve seen overlooked talent become the most valuable player and top producer in a company.

I’ve seen unemployed people build 7-figure incomes.💰

These people have also earned more income than most people with fancy titles and degrees. 💡

And I’ve seen people who were once admired for their titles and popularity … quietly forgotten.

People tend to remember the real people who get things done. 

They also remember the people who were thoughtful and good to people along the way. 

It is always best to treat everyone with respect regardless of their title. 

Success is not a fixed seat, the tables keep turning. 

Never judge a person based on their current position.
Time has a way of changing positions.

You are not too late. 

You can get into the best position of your life despite your age.

Times have changed and that is a good thing.

Some people reaching 60 have the energy of 30 year olds. And some people are looking 10 to 20 years younger too. 

I have worked with people over 57 years old who are more successful this year, than the rest of their years combined. 

No matter your age, you'll always wish you started younger. But today is the youngest you'll ever be.

I think this lesson is worth sharing.

Let it serve as a gentle reminder today. You have time to start and continue on paths that bring you towards what you truly want in life.

If you feel stuck in what didn’t work out.. 

I have some good news for you: What’s ahead is better than what’s behind you. BUT you have to focus on the good possibilities ahead.

These things don’t stop you from success: 

The job that let you go.
The deal that fell through.
The opportunity yoy thought was the one.

How do I know? Some of the most impressive people that I have met are proof of this truth. 

The truth:

Success isn’t about dwelling on the past. It’s about moving with confidence toward what’s next.

So how do you make sure you’re locked in on better? 

Here are 3 practical ways that helped me to shift my focus and has led to better opportunities for myself and the people I know:

1️⃣ Audit your environment.

Who are you surrounded by? If the people around you aren’t talking about growth, opportunity, and solutions; it’s time to change the conversation (or the room).

2️⃣ Upgrade your inputs.

Your future is shaped by what you consume. Be intentional. Read content that pushes you forward. Engage with people who inspire new ideas. Cut out the noise that keeps you small.

3️⃣ Make bold moves daily.

Clarity comes from action. Apply for that role, launch the business, reach out to that connection. Stop waiting for the “perfect time” and start moving toward the future you want.

This is how a “shy” introverted like me, was able to connect and work on projects with some of the biggest companies on the planet.

I had to forget about a past employer who was underpaying me and not valuing my skills. My focus was on better opportunities that I saw through my LinkedIn contacts. 

I know that better opportunities are abundant across this platform and you have access to it. Networking is 100% free. Start by being curious about better ways to approach your career and business of choice.

I met some successful people who work within some of the most competitive industries, and they all had this in common:

Time revealed that “missed opportunities” were not the best opportunities. 

What felt like a devastating loss or disadvantage turned out to be fuel for our determination and growth.

We found gratitude for the redirection that disappointments, rejections, and haters brought along our paths.

I encourage you to keep moving forward despite closed doors, detours, and roadblocks.

He was on the verge of quitting.
Not just his job.. his entire industry. Then everything changed for him and his family. The effort and attention finally paid off. 

He messaged me on LinkedIn and said:
“Rachel, I felt invisible. Passed over. Underpaid. I thought maybe I just wasn’t good enough.”

But instead of walking away defeated, he did something brave:

He started connecting.

He began showing up differently .. online and in conversations.

He followed the advice I shared about building real relationships and understanding his value.

Last week, he wrote me again:
He doubled his salary.
Same skills. Same heart.
New table.

Sometimes, it’s not about proving yourself harder.
It’s about placing yourself better.

If someone doesn’t value what you bring to their table, it’s okay to go find or build a better table for yourself.

Respect yourself enough to do it.

Because someone out there will see your worth.

That’s real character.

A setback can set you up for big success! 

A few years ago I was rejected to work on a project. It was frustrating because I knew I was the best person for the position. 

I was starting to build a network of professionals that I knew was going to be able to help take business to a higher level. 

Fast forward to today, I realize that that specific project was not the best for me. I was not meant to be stuck in an office with “old-school mentalities” running a show. 

I was meant to be open and free to bring together the smartest and most innovative people in business! 💡What I originally thought was a setback was setting me up to be able to advise more people and expand multiple businesses within the past three years. 

I am grateful for the setbacks that have propelled my career. 

This is why I like to give back to someone on LinkedIn daily. I see many people who feel the same way I felt in my past. 

I hope this inspires you today:

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it's going to launch you into something great. 

So just focus, and keep aiming.

I received a message from a few people who have been having a difficult time getting hired.  

Years ago I rememeber being interviewed and told that the position was filled but they just wanted to meet me. It was a serious misuse of time and effort.

My advice:

Don't keep a position posted if you've already chosen someone.
Respect people's time.

Keep good people close.

Not in a clingy way.
But in an intentional  and thoughtful way.

Because people who:

	•	see your potential
	•	celebrate your growth
	•	challenge your excuses
	•	support your success

…are rare.

Here’s how to stay connected even from afar:

• Send a quick voice note 
• Share an article or post that reminded you of them
• Drop a thoughtful comment on their latest post (this connects good people on LinkedIn)
• Invite them to catch-up 
• Simply say “I appreciate you” when it crosses your mind

That’s it.

Even if you are feeling drained or tired, you will find that the right people will energize you with the smallest interaction. 

I found that the most successful people know the difference between being in the presence of a “diamond “ vs. a “fake stone”.. because the experience feels different. 

A diamond shines, is consistent, and is brilliant. You will also notice that the light around a diamond impacts everything around it. 💎 That’s my analogy for the day.😉

People who care to help you when you are feeling down, are worth your time.

Too many people make the mistake of choosing to spend their time with people who “look good on paper” or look nice despite being fake.. which causes them to miss out on the best people.💎

Relationships that truly elevate you are worth the effort.

Whoever is bringing out the best in you, stay connected to them.

A harsh truth: Some people don’t like you. 

This will not stop you from achieving success. 

I have heard from successful CEOs who are kind and generous leaders on LinkedIn. They regularly get hate and jealous remarks thrown at them.

Some people are not doing as well as you, so they try to find ways to tear you down.

The good news: 💡
It doesn’t matter what they try to do if you keep focus on doing good. What you do tends to come back around to you.

Early in my career I cared what people thought too much. I was a “people pleaser” and I lost a lot of opportunities because I was scared.

But over time, I matured as I observed what successful people tend to do. They tend to be mature and achieve long-term success.

MATURITY IS 
WHEN YOU
REALIZE
YOUCANNOT 
BE FRIENDS 
WITH EVERYONE.

Who you keep close is everything. 

Not in some curated, aesthetic circle kind of way - but in the real, human, soul-level way. 

The people around you either remind you who you are, or quietly make you forget. 

They either keep your fire lit, or slowly drain the oxygen from it. And most of the time, it’s subtle. 

That’s what makes it dangerous.
You need people who tell the truth when it’s uncomfortable. Who call you out with love, not ego. 

Who believe in your wild ideas before they make sense. Who aren’t threatened by your growth. Who don’t just show up when things are going well - but stay when you’re off your game, unsure of yourself, or quietly fading out of view. 


And here’s the part most people miss: you need people who defend you when you’re not in the room. 

Who speak your name with respect. Who shut down gossip, reframe the narrative, and make sure you’re still protected, even in your absence.


That kind of loyalty isn’t loud. It’s not always performative. But it’s powerful. Because so much of your life is shaped by conversations you’ll never hear. Decisions made in rooms you’re not in. 

So much of your future depends on who’s carrying your name when you’re not around to explain it.

Start paying attention to how you feel after conversations. Energised? Grounded? Or subtly diminished? That feeling is data. 

Choose people who want to grow with you, not around you. People who don’t just hype you - but honour you. 

People who make you feel safe enough to be the full version of yourself.

Because when the room goes quiet, and your name comes up, you’ll want to know someone in there still has your back.

Realizing that everyone is different, and staying true to your values and true to what you belive in.

You will always attract people, places, and things that align with you, when you choose to align with what is good within you.

These opportunities can be found here on LinkedIn. There are people from all backgrounds finding each other here.

By simply liking and commenting on other people’s posts, you will find like-minded people. 

When you find that there are people who are successful and aligned with your values and beliefs, you start to develop meaningful conversation that lead to meaningful opportunities. 

Attracting what is aligned with you, will bring you more success than forcing your way to fit in where you don’t belong.

You might need this reminder, especially if you never ask for much.

And if you are receiving the bare minimum from who you work with.

Some people want to give you the bare minimum even when you go above and beyond to work with them.

Pay attention to who gives to you and who doesn’t. Always align with people who are fair, as much as possible.

There are many lessons that I have learned from successful people and from my own experiences. Connecting with people who are generous, open, and kind is better than staying stuck where you are not appreciated or valued.

Just because you don't ask for much, does not mean you deserve the bare minimum.

Look for what is fair and seek to work with people who are fair.
