There's a quieter flex happening in knowledge economies, and most people miss it: 

A few years ago, if you could buy a car and a house, you'd have made it.

But the markers of success are shifting.
(In my opinion, for the better.)

Cars, houses, and stability still matter, but they're the baseline, not the end goal. 

The new status symbols are less visible but far more valuable: 

1️⃣ Time sovereignty — The ability to choose how you spend your time.

2️⃣ Intellectual freedom — Learning what interests you, not just what your job requires. 

Having the mental space to think deeply. 

3️⃣ Meaningful relationships — People who genuinely support you. People you can call for real help.

4️⃣ The ability to say no — Turning down projects that drain you. Having enough financial cushion to walk away from what doesn't serve you.

The confidence that you'd be fine even if everything changed.

5️⃣ Health and energy — The physical and mental capacity to enjoy your life. 

Not being too exhausted to spend time with people you love.

6️⃣ Choice — The ultimate luxury = having options. Choosing where you work, who you work with, and what problems you solve.

We keep thinking that the shift is about rejecting material success, when it’s about redefining what success actually means.

I do these 7 rituals like my life depends on them:

(Because honestly it does.)

1️⃣ I put my devices on DND during thinking time. This is where I strategize, where my best work happens. 

2️⃣ I don't block "creative time" and expect magic to happen. Instead, I give ideas space to breathe and capture them when they come. 

3️⃣ I start my mornings slow. For the person who has had rushed mornings all my life, this felt like a disaster at once. Now I start my days with a simple to-do list and coffee, and I get more things done than ever before. 

4️⃣ I'm still figuring this one out, but I know when I skip movement, everything feels harder. A 20-minute walk clears my head better than another coffee.  

5️⃣ I don’t like to build in isolation. Every week, I connect with friends who are in the trenches too. We share wins, losses, and reality checks. 

This keeps me grounded when imposter syndrome hits and energized when I'm stuck.

6️⃣ I say “no” faster now. I respect my bandwidth. Every yes costs something. 

7️⃣ I listen to people who have built what I want. Not people who have opinions about what I want. 


So, yes….these aren't glamorous. They won't make me more productive tomorrow.

But they're the reason I'm still here, still building, still showing up.

Ambition without rituals is just a countdown to burnout.

What's one ritual that keeps you from burning out?

Your audience has trust issues.

Your audience loves your content, but do they trust you?

Every day, they see 10 different experts saying the same thing with slightly different words.

Same frameworks, promises and energy.

So why do they choose one personal brand over another?

Understand these trust signals that most creators miss:

1. Consistency builds familiarity

They see you once, you're interesting. They see you every week for 6 months, you're trusted. 

2. You share the messy middle

Perfect success stories are inspiring but forgettable. The struggle, the pivots, the lessons from failure, that's what makes you real. Real builds trust.

3. You go deeper than surface-level advice

Generic tips are everywhere. Specific frameworks, nuanced takes, and detailed examples prove you've done the work. Depth separates you from the noise.

4. You actually talk WITH people, not AT them

Responding to comments, asking questions, having real conversations, this shows you care about more than just broadcasting your message.

5. Your values are non-negotiable

When your audience knows what you stand for (and what you won't compromise on), they self-select. The wrong people leave. The right people lean all the way in.

Trust is the currency. 

Make it your unfair advantage.

When your audience will trust you, they will buy from you.

I read two Freida McFadden books in under 24 hours. 

The Housemaid. The Coworker.

I couldn't stop reading even though the writing itself isn't "beautiful."

No flowery language or poetic metaphors. 

But I was hooked from page one.

And I feel …

This is exactly how copywriting should work.

(Yes, comparing thriller novels to business copy sounds insane. Stay with me.)

What makes McFadden's writing so compelling: 

1️⃣ She doesn't try to impress you 

Every sentence has one job: move you to the next sentence. No showing off or unnecessary words. Just forward momentum.

Your reader doesn't care how clever you are. They care about getting to the answer. Strip everything that doesn't serve that purpose.

2️⃣ She creates gaps you need to fill 

She reveals just enough to make you curious, then pulls back. You keep reading because you need to know what happens next.

Don't explain everything upfront in your copy. Tease the outcome. 

Create tension between your audience’s current state and where they want to be. Make them need the next line.

3️⃣ Every chapter ends with a hook

Just when you think you can put the book down, she drops something that makes you say "okay, one more chapter."

Your reader is always one distraction away from leaving. 

End sections with questions, cliffhangers, or statements that demand they keep reading.


You see, compelling writing isn't about being impressive? 

It needs to be impossible to ignore.

So sorry for talking about copy with Freida McFadden’s amazing books, but this was evident. 

Your copy doesn't need to be poetry.

It needs to be a page-turner.

Clear. Fast-paced. Impossible to stop reading.

That's the standard.


What's a book (or piece of content) you couldn't stop consuming?

An executive complained to me about how getting only 7 likes on his post was embarrassing.

A little background: he's worked with major companies and done extensive work in his industry. To put it simply, he has a massive offline network. But on LinkedIn, his posts were getting 7-9-12 reactions.

He said it was embarrassing.

Now, tactically: 
→ He only had 150 connections. 
→ He posted when he had time, once every couple of months. 
→ He wanted to be seen as a thought leader in his industry quickly.

But logically, he was following a broken system.

While I can show you how we fixed this problem for him, I want you to focus on the bigger picture.

Engagement alone is not proof of value.

Because...

✅ Someone can be getting 7 likes on their posts but may be booked out for the quarter.
✅ Someone's last post can be from a year ago, but they may be working with the biggest brands.
✅ Someone can delete their LinkedIn account (lol), but they may be closing $20K months.

I can say this because I've worked with all three of these "someones."

So, let this be your reminder not to get distracted by numbers. Instead, focus on impact, value, visibility, and conversions.

And if you still want to get 7+ reactions (or more), I have something for you.

Watch out.

Most people “post more” to build a personal brand, but this is the 3-layer framework behind every successful personal brand out there: 

Layer 1: Visibility 

People know you exist

This is where most creators get stuck. They post content, gain followers, get likes, but nothing converts.

What this looks like:

✅ Showing up consistently on one platform
✅ Being findable when someone searches your expertise
✅ Your profile clearly communicates what you do and who you help


Layer 2: Credibility
People trust what you say 

This is where value compounds. You're not visible and believed. Credibility is earned through proof, consistency, and depth.

What this looks like: 

✅ Sharing detailed case studies and results
✅ Being transparent about failures and lessons learned
✅ Others validating your work through testimonials, shares, or mentions


Layer 3: Authority 

People seek you out and pay premium prices. 

Authority is when your brand creates gravity. Opportunities come to you. You set the terms.

This layer takes time but it's where leverage lives.

What this looks like: 

✅ Getting invited to speak, collaborate, or advise without pitching
✅ Your perspective shaping conversations in your industry
✅ Charging premium rates because of who you are, not just what you deliver


So, if you’re not getting results, you’re probably building the wrong way. 

Most people try to skip layers.

They want authority without credibility. Credibility without visibility. 

It doesn't work that way.

Your personal brand isn't built in a day. It's built in layers. You need to move through each layer strategically.

Understand how personal branding is different from self-promotion in the next 60 seconds: 

They look identical from the outside. Both involve talking about yourself, and both can feel uncomfortable. But one builds while the other burns bridges. So what makes the difference? 

Intent and value.

Self-promotion is extractive. 
Personal branding is generative. 

Let me show you what I mean:

Self-promotion: 

→ "I just closed a huge deal. Feeling grateful for this win."

Personal branding: 

→ "I just closed a deal after three rejections. I changed this in my approach between attempt one and attempt four."

See the difference?

One broadcasts achievement. The other shares insight.

One more…

Self-promotion: 

→ "Excited to announce I'm now offering consulting services. DM me for rates."

Personal branding: 

→ "Over the past year, 5 people asked me the same question. I've decided to formalize how I help with this. If you're facing X problem, here's how I typically approach it."

One pushes a service. The other solves a problem publicly first.


Why personal branding builds while self-promotion burns: 

1️⃣ People don't care about your wins unless they can extract something useful from them.

Give them the lesson, the framework, and the mistake you made. What will they do with the trophy? 

2️⃣ Self-promotion is transactional. Personal branding is relational. 

When every post is a pitch, people tune out. When you lead with insight and occasionally mention what you offer, people lean in.

3️⃣ Self-promotion creates skepticism. Personal branding creates trust. 

"Look how great I am" triggers defensiveness. 

"Here's what I learned the hard way" triggers connection.


After someone reads your content, do they think:

- "Wow, they're really successful" (self-promotion)
- "Wow, that was actually useful" (personal branding)

If it's the first one, you're just flexing.

If it's the second one, you're building a brand people remember and trust.


Share the achievement but always give the insight that comes with it. That's the difference between noise and influence.
