“So you’re a Copywriter & you can’t tell me what’s wrong with my business?” 

asked the Chief Marketing Officer.

"Well, it depends” I answered.

“How so?” He inquired, closing my Portfolio & leaning back in his chair.

“You see, there’s a lot of variables involved. For one; what is your offer?

If your offer can be summed up in ONE sentence, what would it be?”

“Oh wow, let me find out from our in-house guy” – He picks up the phone & 

starts dialing.

I was surprised.

“Surely, a CMO should have an idea of his CORE offer without needing to verify” 

I thought.

He finishes the call & in one quick scoop replies “I think we need to have you on 

board. What’s your rate?”

Before I could answer, my phone buzzed. Glancing at the screen, I see a text from 

another potential client – a major competitor of this company. 

A wave of ethical dilemma washed over me.

And not because the CMO had told me about this competitor.

Not because the competitor could pay better.

But because I operate on a “first come first serve basis”

Plus…this was my first major gig.

And I wanted to make sure I was making the right call.

Well, it’s been a couple of years, and I think I most certainly did.

In my role, my duty was to:

🟢 Coordinate & manage some operations of the Marketing Dept & Advertising 

Teams, 

🟢 Implement & continually review Email optimizations & opening leads,

🟢 Partner with B2C & B2B prospects to define their unique selling proposition.

🟢 Crafted pattern interrupt content & integrated this into various media forms 

like text, video, emails.

However, what I’m most proud of is that I:

🟢 Created “big idea” marketing strategies for email campaigns.

🟢 Discovered unnoticed stages of e-com buying patterns

🟢 Revived new email angles for customer list segmentation.

These results have kept me here and I’ve become like family.

I can’t say my time has been blissful all through, however, I’ve enjoyed my 

experience with such an internationally diverse team.

This was something that a Mentor once told me.

And although it was a tough pill to swallow, it was necessary for growth none the less.

I had just been posted to an organization where I would not only be seen or heard but would also be responsible for what kind of information goes out.

Craziest part?

It would carry my signature name.

Meaning if anything goes wrong, everyone would know who to point fingers to.

As an Info Officer, my duties were to:

🟢 write
🟢 prepare statements/memos for my superiors.

And you know how tough it is bonding with people of higher status ⛔️

That's not all, I had to also establish meeting venues so it’s enough to contain the anticipated size of the guests, as well as all the anchoring process.

However, because our brains are hard-wired to connect, I organized my outreach in a way that allowed for personalization, proper opening lead & a call to action of some sort.

In time, I was able to:

✅ weave narratives which align with our collective vision
✅ addressing unspoken concerns
✅ build relationships & understanding between my organization & the public.

With each agenda & each venue, accessibility from the masses was key.

Due to this, I slowly but surely cultivated a rapport that helped foster an environment of inclusivity and engagement. 

And truth be told, I realized at the end of the day, people are drawn to authenticity.

It is probably because people generally like to do business with those they know, like & trust.

And not a lot of people might realize this, but a leader should lead by example, without necessarily hoping for awards or accolades.

I am reminded that at the heart of all we do lies the potential to influence, guide, & connect.

The choice to stand out, to lead the conversation, is more than just a professional strategy; it's a commitment to being a beacon of clarity & truth in an endless sea of information.

A student's grades improving from D's to A's in one semester shows the 

power of individual attention.

Everyone knows it’s a struggle to teach kids.

Especially when they're from different backgrounds, have different cultures, 

and have different learning curves.

You have to map out a plan, decide on the teaching method, and what your 

teaching length might be.

If you’re lucky, the kids might like you.

And if you’re not, they will dread listening to you, and try to find something 

else to do with their time.

In fact, during my time, getting to bond with them meant that the resources 

I recommend,

shouldn't just aspire to transform their educational career, 

but should also lead them to a journey of discovery.

And so, In an academic year, a tutor can impact the lives of over 100 students.

You see, I believe the essence of communication is to ensure that, 

when messages are presented no matter its shape, or form, 

it should resonate with people, regardless of who is reading.

I have had to encourage my students to give valuable feedback, 

as this would give me ideas on what they enjoy, and what i should improve on.

Eventually, I was able to make these kids know, like, and trust me.

And in no time, my class sessions didn’t just become entertaining, 

and relatable, but also became engaging as well.

This SECRET is the reason why my narrative skills are easy to read and digest.

And i genuinely believe that, 

this ability is responsible for being able to turn complex ideas into simple content/copy.

This principle is at the heart of the CDS, a unique initiative that embodies the spirit of collective effort & progress.

Because here's the thing; upon college graduation, graduates can voluntarily assign to different locations across the country, similar to the Marines.

The primary objective is to immerse yourself in a new environment, to understand its culture & practice, and most importantly, to contribute to the nation's sustainable development.

The aim is not just to foster relationships with different tribes, but to also provide solutions when there is a need.

So imagine my surprise when, mere weeks after my arrival, i was made the Vice President of my unit.

A role was known for its demands & responsibilities.

"You cannot do this sir, there are other qualified people!" I argued with my superior.

"Of cos there are. However, I’ve seen the way you talk, you'd be able to connect with this Community" he replied.

And then it hit me.

People generally don't care about what you say, but HOW you say it.

Meaning, regardless of the medium, people are STILL going to connect with you the same.

And the beauty of this whole thing is, the way you portray yourself, present your message, show empathy & concern, ends up being traits of how you build a loyal following.

Leveraging my new role, I assisted several key initiatives that allowed us to:

✅ crowdfund for a water borehole,
✅ encourage weekly sanitation,
✅ establish health orientation exercises
✅ renovated a library for the children.
✅ initiated a series of vocational training workshops for youths.

These projects weren't just about providing immediate solutions; but about planting seeds for the future.

And I am often reminded of the power of community & the transformative impact of collective action driven by empathy, understanding & a shared vision for a better future.

“The art of communication is your canvas, and your WORDS should be the paintbrush”

This was the theme of an Email Summit I attended to refine my craft.

I think people miss out on face-to-face interactions and the kind of networking 

opportunities events like this provide…especially when it’s paid.

This one was no different, and after some projects, I have come 

to understand that every email is an opportunity to CONNECT, 

ENGAGE, and PERSUADE.

Your goal is to simply craft messages that not only capture 

ATTENTION but also resonate on a personal level – very important.

And to be good at this stuff in just a few lines, you need to convey a 

compelling story, a persuasive argument, or an irresistible offer. 

And whether I’m writing to an audience of HUNDREDS or TENS OF 

THOUSANDS, the core principle remains the same: 

✅ UNDERSTAND the reader.

And i know i have said this before, however:

Get valuable Feedback. 

It helped shape my approach and fine-tune my tone, style, and content. 

And the thing is, this iterative process is what allows me to create emails 

that are not just READ but FELT and ACTED upon.

This experience helped contribute to:

🔵 Developing an email strategy to ensure brand tone & voice matches 

across all business platforms.

🔵 Communicating the need for educative email newsletters to increase 

audience interaction and perception of a brand’s product.

🔵 Researching and leveraging an easier mode of creating email content 

using established online tools for better deliverability.

🔵 Managing and developing a marketing strategy to ensure better

etc.

To sum it up, successful email copywriting lies in the ability to turn 

ordinary words into an extraordinary EXPERIENCE. 

It’s about making every email a journey, a discovery, a conversation. 

This is what drives me.

In the realm of EMAIL MARKETING, every word counts.

making each interaction not only unique but also a step closer to a mutual goal, 

while fostering trust and loyalty in the process.

This understanding has allowed me to:

✅ Craft Mini Sales Letters/emails for weight loss methods
