Lately, I’ve felt annoyed. Frustrated. Even a little resentful.

I understand how this works.
I just wish I could skip the “show up consistently forever” part and go straight to the results.

There are plenty of days I can’t spend 30–60 minutes here engaging.
Some days, I don’t want to.

But yesterday I had a sales call with someone completely new to me.
She wasn’t on my email list.
She wasn’t referred.
I had zero context going in.

On the call, she told me she’s been following me on LinkedIn for over a year.

Over a year.

She had bookmarked my profile months ago so she could reach out when she was ready.

We weren’t even connected.
You have no idea who’s watching.
You have no idea who’s saving your content.
You have no idea who’s quietly building trust with you.

Consistency feels invisible… until it isn’t.

 I came in during a full website rebuild and helped guide the migration + SEO foundation.

Since then they’ve grown massively — added another office, expanded services, and now they’ve hired a full-time marketing team to run social, newsletters, classes, and more.

That’s the dream: internal capacity + momentum.

➡️ A local landscaping company (18 months working together)

I helped them clean up a very technically messy website, built a system of optimizations, GMB updates and new content.

⭐️ They’re booked out 6+ months.

Our work helped create demand and consistency — and now their next move is investing in other marketing channels (paid ads) to support the growth they’ve earned.

When you’re turning work away, your strategy changes (in a good way).

THIS morning I was chatting with a client, I had one of those “okay… this is the new normal” moments.

We were reviewing performance and I said something like:
“Direct traffic is up… and honestly, I think a chunk of that is AI, though it is hard to prove.

And my client goes:
Yes, I had a call yesterday with a potential client, we will him Frank. Frank said they typed their problem into ChatGPT  and we (my client) were recommended to help. 
So Frank called client. 
Frank has a multi-million net worth and my client is a wealth manager. 
So. that is cool. 🪩

But it is also the measurement problem in one sentence.
Because in GA4, that visit often shows up as:
Direct / none
 or
Google / organic (if it passed through Google’s AI surfaces)

Not “ChatGPT.”
Not “AI Overviews.”
Not “Copilot.”

So if you’re only looking at GA4 + Search Console, you’re missing the part that actually matters:
Did your brand get recommended before the click ever happened?

This is why “AI SEO reporting” can’t just be traffic charts anymore.
What we’re doing instead is shifting measurement toward:

brand inclusion (are you named in answers?)
intent coverage (what prompts trigger you?)
entity clarity (does AI understand who you are without confusion?)
trust assets (team bios, FAQs with schema, videos, listings—things AI can “chunk” fast)

On that same call, we decided to build:
a clearer About page to define the entity (wealth vs tax)
a backend FAQ page with schema to train AI faster
and we’re updating team bios because… AI loves people + credibility signals

Here’s the punchline:
Traffic is still useful.
But AI influence is happening upstream — and GA4 isn’t built to see it.

If you’ve noticed “more inquiries” but can’t trace the source… you’re not crazy.
Your analytics are just stuck in 2019.

One phrase that you are going to hear more and more is Structured Context.

If you haven't heard about it yet, let me break it down.

Most businesses think they have plenty of information online.
They do.
But information ≠ structured context.

Right now, most companies have what I’d call unstructured context:
• Random blog posts
 • A vague About page
 • Inconsistent service descriptions
 • Scattered testimonials
 • Old PDFs in Google Drive
 • A few LinkedIn posts
 • Some reviews
It all exists.
But it’s fragmented.

So when AI systems try to understand your business, they have to guess.
And guessing leads to generic answers.
Structured context is different.

It’s information about your business that is:
• Organized
 • Explicit
 • Consistent
 • Machine-readable
 • Easy to retrieve

It clearly defines things like:
→ Who you serve
 → What you actually do (and don’t do)
 → Your differentiators
 → Your proof
 → The specific problems you solve
 → The exact questions you want to be known for

When that structure exists, AI doesn’t have to infer your positioning from scraps.
It retrieves it.
And that changes the output from:
“Here are 10 agencies in your area…”
to
“Based on expertise in X, this company is a strong fit.”

Here’s the simplest analogy:
Unstructured context is dumping your pantry on the counter and asking a chef to cook.

Structured context is labeled containers, organized shelves, and a recipe.
Same ingredients.
Very different result.
In the AI era, content volume matters less than context clarity.

If AI can’t clearly understand your business, it can’t confidently recommend you.

Most About pages aren’t bad.
They’re just… invisible.
Invisible to AI.

They sound nice.
They tell a story.
They feel “on brand.”

But if you asked ChatGPT or Gemini:
“Who should I hire for ___ in ___?”

Would your About page help you get recommended?
I’ve been testing something behind the scenes.
A GPT that scans your About or FAQ page and scores it for AI discoverability — not vibes, not grammar — actual recommendation strength.

It flags:
• Missing expertise signals
 • Vague positioning
 • Weak service clarity
 • No structured answers
 • Trust gaps AI can’t interpret

And the results have been… interesting.

I’m planning on using it as pre-work for an upcoming live workshop where we fix pages in real time.

No theory. Just build and test.

“How do we measure AI SEO?”

Most teams start (and stop) with GA4. I mean it was the GOAT for years.
Now it is not wrong — but it’s incomplete.

GA4 is designed to measure visits to your website.
AI discovery increasingly happens before a visit ever occurs.
Today, many users:
 • ask AI tools questions
 • see brand recommendations
 • compare options inside the interface
 • build trust without clicking

By the time someone lands on your site, AI has often already shaped:
 – what brands feel credible
 – which options are even considered
 – what the user expects to see
GA4 captures the result, not the influence.

This is why AI visibility can grow while traffic stays flat — or even declines.
To understand AI SEO impact, we need to look beyond sessions and ask:
 • Is our brand being mentioned?
 • For which intents?
 • Alongside which competitors?
 • Across which AI platforms?

Traffic still matters.
But it’s no longer the full story.
