You have accounts, maybe an advisor, maybe a spreadsheet you keep meaning to update, but nobody has ever looked at how it all fits together. And that's the part that bothers you most.

You could spend hours researching it yourself. A lot of women do. But you have a hundred other things that actually need your attention.

That's where I come in.

I'm Renee Cohen, CFP® and founder of Nexa Wealth. I work with women in their 40s and 50s and their families who plan alongside them who are ready to stop guessing and start knowing that nothing is falling through the cracks.

I don't hand you a plan and disappear. We work together as life keeps moving - through decisions as they come up and priorities as they shift. Because a financial plan that sits in a drawer isn't really a plan. It's a document.

You don't have to become an expert. But you will understand every decision we make and why. Being in control doesn't mean doing it alone. It means having the right person in your corner.  My clients come to me carrying a lot of uncertainty. What changes isn't that their life gets simpler. It's that they finally have direction and someone to think it through with.

I am a certified mediator in the state of Texas. I work with parties to facilitate dialogue to resolve disputes. My main focus is on negotiating contracts, divorce settlements, and estate planning. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that utilizes an unbiased 3rd party to help settle conflicts between groups. My professional expertise in conflict and interpersonal communication enables me to help parties understand the background of their disputes. I work to enable clients to come to healthy, fair resolutions that are mutually beneficial.

I never planned to write this book.  I never wanted to write this book.  A few years before the book was published, I was thrust into a personal crisis. At that time, I couldn’t handle one more thing and instead of coping and managing as I have in every other crisis. I broke. 

    I was jolted back emotionally back to a place I had been ignoring - because I didn’t realize it even existed. I could either keep ignoring it, or I could use my expertise to work through it - so I did the work.
It was like my personal and professional worlds had slammed into one another. I realized I needed to look not just at events that were happening to me but also at patterns in my history and the storylines behind those. This propelled me into an entirely different space of self-awareness.  I let go of coping mechanisms I had long used, roles and personas I had been playing, and other patterns I was hanging onto and made my way back to who I truly was.  And when you shed the layers that conceal who you truly are, you can show up authentically in relationships, make decisions based on what feels good to you and show up fully for yourself in all areas of your life. 

    You never know when someone is going to reach their breaking point. You don’t see all of the experiences that have led them to that moment. You may not understand why their reactions are different than what you would have. This book exists in the hope that someone else will read it and feel less alone.

In my podcast, I speak to guests about challenges and transformations they’ve experienced, both personally and professionally. I started this podcast because I wanted to build a platform for others to share their stories. Throughout my time at Texas State, I taught Interpersonal Communication, Family Communication, Relational Communication, Gender Communication, The Dark Side of Communication, Intro to Communication, and Quantitative Research Methods. 

My research focuses on communicative coping and negotiating identity in the face of unexpected relational disruption.
