The focus has been to enhance industry IT/OT security competence and workforce development by way of the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP®) certification program and its associated Body of Knowledge. Auke is Project Manager for the National Roadmap to Secure Process Control Systems. This Roadmap is a set of activities to raise the security bar of the Process Control Domain in critical infrastructures in the Netherlands. Auke is active in several international working groups like:
- Lead for the work stream Workforce Development within the Thematic Area 'ICS and Smart Grids' of ERNCIP (European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection)
- Member of the sub-group 'ICS and Smart Grids' under the EU-US Working group on Cybercrime and Cybersecurity
- EuroSCSIE (European SCADA and Control Systems Information Exchange)
- MPCSIE (Meridian Process Control Systems Information Exchange)

Important outreach from this project is yearly The Grand Conference in Amsterdam, where C-level management from critical infrastructures and top policy makers from the public sector discuss there leadership role in the area of Cyber Resilience.

In the start-up phase Auke was responsible for setting up the service line Education & Training within ENCS (European Network for Cyber Security). I'm an international specialist and trusted advisor in the field of OT Cyber Security with over 25 years of experience protecting critical infrastructures. I have worked with governments, multinational corporations, national research organizations, advisory firms, and critical infrastructure asset owners. I have served various national and international cybersecurity initiatives in different roles.

In the past I was a co-author of the first National Cyber Security Strategy of the Dutch government and led the Dutch Cyber Security Information Sharing and Analysis Centres (ISACs) before they merged into the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in early 2012. I was a co-founder of the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)  certification from GIAC.

I studied Chemistry at the University of Groningen and Business Economics at the Academy of Management. I have extensive experience in preparing companies for NIS(2) EU directive, implementing Cyber Security Management Systems, OT Security risk management and workforce development.
