I would like to think that people will remember me as a nice bloke, who did nice things.

And those nice things are:

- Talking. Think Radio, TV, Events, Podcasts, Lecturing, etc.
- Charity. No one has ever become poor from giving.
- Birmingham. I'm proud to consistently champion this city.

And those nice things were:

- Marketing. Web, digital, social media.
- Law. I genuinely still can't believe that I was an actual lawyer.
- Consultancy. Non-Exec. Board Member. Advisor.

And I've done a lot more bits and bobs.

My main focus currently is:

Radio and broadcasting with the BBC.
Hosting and public speaking through my own business.
And charity (which will always be voluntary).

But I can always do some of the other bits if you think I could help you.

As a Director and Co Founder at Curium Solutions, I have over 15 years of experience in leading a specialist change management consultancy that helps organizations improve their change capability and project delivery in a sustainable way. I am also a Co Founder at Work Time Reduction Center of Excellence, a new initiative that aims to promote the benefits of working less and living more, without impacting the bottom line.

Last night was a celebration of businesses across the region, a timely reminder of the importance of SMEs. 

The night kicked off with fairground attractions and ended with the richly deserved winners celebrating on their way home. 

Birmingham and Solihull get a lot of the limelight across the region. 

But. 

Do not underestimate the quality of the people, businesses, passion, the Wit & Grit, and creativity we have across the entire Greater Birmingham region. 

To everyone nominated at the Royal Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield & Tamworth and Cannock Chase awards, congratulations. 

To all the winners, keep winning. It was a joy to hand out the award to Nexus Care Services. 

Martin Hall, Gary Phelps and David Mitchell FCIM, well done for having the vision to be different, to create a truly memorable night, and to do so in a fantastic location, Statfold Country Park.

To Marcella Meehan and the team at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, you pulled off a great night. 

I'm grateful for the welcome I always feel at these events and the friends and connections I’m making. 

We're a powerhouse as a region; underestimate us at your peril.

Perspective is a driving opportunity for those who dream big and limits those who think small. 

I have a friend who works for a large global brand. Their peers are not regional or national competitors; it's their global rivals.

It drives huge ambition, pace and energy.

The benefit is that they compete for the best global talent, want to work with the best universities and invest in innovation. 

Another friend works for a mid-sized professional services firm and compares themselves to peers in their sector in their city. They are comfortable. 

The conversations we have about work, in particular leadership and AI, are polar opposites. 

One wishes they could raise the bar; the other wants to help others raise theirs and share what is really possible with a global perspective. 

What can we do about this, in a world where £££ isn't equally distributed?

Well, it's not all the money. 

We can be curious, step out of our comfort zones, listen to other people’s stories and understand what is happening outside our own domains. 

Last night, I attended the inaugural Ampa - Legal & Professional Services Ampasand Club, courtesy of Sarah Walker-Smith. 

The perspective from their 19th-floor offices in the Shard lights your ambition for sure.

It was a fascinating mix of technologists, journalists, media entrepreneurs and much more. 

The conversations were about how we can improve things for us and those around us. 

My perspective certainly went up a notch or two, and I'm looking forward to the next one. 

And, a pleasure to meet you, Alex Smith, and awesome to see one of the greats, Ninder Johal DL too.

Time for a sharp exit. 😂

Cheerfulness in the face of adversity.
Having the Wit and Grit to get it done.
If it's hard, it's because it's meant to be.

These phrases kept popping into my head when I heard John Cotton, the leader of Birmingham City Council, talk about his Past: Present: Future story. 

Birmingham bashing is a thing, and we've had our fair share of issues that, in my opinion, often mask and hide progress. And we are making progress.

In society, we have much more fun pointing fingers, throwing stones and finding an angle, however small, to light up the algorithm and have a good shout.

That's not the way.

It's not how my friend Ben Williams talks about his time in the Royals, nor the conversations PJ Ellis and I have on the podcast, nor the way team Curium Solutions supports our customers. 

You can choose how you respond. 

You can look down at your shoes and look for the 💩 to step in so you can have a good moan. 

Or.

You can look up at the stars, see the best in others and hold out your hand to help others up. 

Everyone I work with across Greater Birmingham and beyond smiles when the 💩comes down.
