Our team launched live chat during the holidays exactly 2 years ago. 

Live. Like real humans. 

People responding directly to people who are in need of immediate support.

Kind of an unusual move as the world transitioned to a more AI-augmented service layer. 

We saw live chat as an opportunity to help deescalate issues with folks who are in a heightened emotional state; a chance for us to resolve issues in real time or as quickly as possible and get folks back to their day. 

It's illuminated game-changing opportunities. Opportunities to improve our product, our services, and our brand expression. 

It's **also** illuminated surprising insights into human nature. 

To be frank: people show up in chat as their most authentic selves. 

And to be even MORE frank:  people's most authentic self can be straight up ... not good. 

In a world where brand connection points are largely AI-augmented, speaking with a real human has become a luxury. 

And as a luxury, it comes with responsibility to meet people with empathy, patience, and grace. 

Every live chat becomes more than a customer-service exchange. 

It becomes a mirror. A reflection of how we, as people, choose to show up for other people. 

AI can triage.
AI can predict intent.
But AI can’t connect.

Live chat isn’t just a function of service. It’s a function of humanity.

It's Day 5 of my 10 day challenge to make 10 dishes in 1 roasting pan. 

Today’s dish is special. 

It’s a take on what's easily the tastiest inside joke our family has. A few Thanksgivings ago, my mom wanted to make as much of everyone's favorite Thanksgiving dish as possible. That dish: classic apple pie. 

She decided that the best way to give everyone as much as they wanted was to ditch the circular pie dish and make apple pie in a flat roasting dish. Our family loved it and coined the term “Flapple Pie” (aka flat apple pie). 

In honor of this innovation and hilarious joke, I present to you the Flapple Pie The OG pie had a flakey, pie crust. But for my besties with food sensitivities, I see you. This recipe one is gluten free. 
 
It’s gooey, buttery, sweet, and like all the best family traditions, just a little bit messy.

Cooking it brought me back to why I love this challenge in the first place: To celebrate connection, tradition, and intention in how we host, give, and gather.
