I used to do supply chain stuff. RFP's, procurement, all the things. I love it. It's my passion. But my business didn't turn a large profit (as predicted in my business plan) for one reason: 

I didn't believe strongly enough in myself to take the actions needed to create clients and ongoing success. Fear, anxiety, shame all crept in and stayed. I now understand this.

Taking on the challenge of integrating the Procurement function into Vail Resorts head office enabled me to showcase my skills in procurement process development. Being able to lead, manage and deliver on processes that created real value to the business was a driver in this role. The emphasis on improving systems and processes was a truly rewarding experience.

Being promoted to Supervisor of the Purchasing department at Whistler Blackcomb was an exciting opportunity. During this time I had the privilege of leading my team towards a major transition. We prepared to move into the Vail Resorts centre-led procurement model. I was able to continue under the new model as the Procurement Specialist.

Purchasing Supervisor

My role involved purchasing anything and everything that Whistler Blackcomb required to operate. My passion for sustainable purchasing and improving our sustainability led my priorities. By questioning what we buy, and why, I took the lead in finding more sustainable options. My work involved purchasing snowcat parts, oils, business cards and ski fences all in one day. Although I enjoyed the variety of different purchases, I specialized in fleet maintenance products. I developed a strong ability to build relationships over the telephone.

I was part of the team that completely overhauled the purchasing processes of Brisbane City Council. We went from taking the lowest bid, to being able to negotiate with any or all bidders in the RFP process. This enabled us to drive additional savings for tax payers. 
I was often tasked with completing something that was only halfway through. I was personally responsible for saving in the area of $160,000 for a specific service. 
We were each recognized with a Lord Mayoral Award for Excellence for the significant contribution we made to improving the city's bottom line.
