A VP candidate walked away from a $280K offer.

Two weeks later, she proved “playing safe” is the real risk.  

She came to me as a Director. Strong track record. Clear VP potential.

A big brand posted a VP role.

Scope looked huge. Title looked shiny. Process dragged for 10 weeks.

Final offer: $280K total.

After hundreds of Senior Manager & Director resumes each year, I use a simple 5-step “Impact Rewrite” process.

Clients who follow this process often double interview rates.

Here is how I do it with them.

Step 1: Pull raw responsibilities
• Copy bullets from past roles
• Keep every line task-based for now

Step 2: Find the main business lever
For each bullet, mark one lever:
• Revenue
• Cost
• Risk
• Customer or employee experience

Step 3: Attach a number
Use any real number you can find:
• % change
• Dollar value
• Volume or time
Numbers turn noise into proof.

Step 4: Use the formula
Action + lever + metric

For example:
“Led cross-functional project”
becomes
“Led cross-functional launch that grew ARR 18% & added $4.2M pipeline in 9 months”

Step 5: Compare with target Director or VP role
• Open a job description
• Scan each bullet on your resume
• Check match with scope, scale, levers in that role

Senior product leader. Six Director final rounds.  

Six times, the call came:  
“We went with an internal person.”  

She felt cursed.  
Strong resume, strong references, strong skills.

There is a moment in almost every skill where things start to feel easier.

Not because the work became simple.

Because you have done it enough times that your brain recognizes the patterns.

That moment happened to me this week.

I was reviewing an application for someone and preparing feedback. As I worked through it, the adjustments that were needed felt obvious. The gaps. 

The places where the story could be clearer. The pieces that needed to connect.

The suggestions just rolled off the tongue.

It reminded me how much practice sits behind moments like that.

Years of reading applications. Writing them. Seeing what works. Seeing what does not.

Practice is what creates that shift.

The more time you spend learning the fundamentals, the more room you have later to experiment, adapt, and think creatively.

It applies to almost everything. Leadership. Strategy. Writing. Problem solving.

The early reps may feel repetitive.

They are also what make the interesting work possible later.

I didn’t expect ChatGPT to become my personal stylist… but here we are 😅

I had a simple problem:

I bought a pair of black satin pants a couple of years ago (I LOVE them). But I had one problem, had NO idea what tops would actually look good on me or how to pick something that worked WITH the pants.

So I gave ChatGPT:
✔ my measurements
✔ my height
✔ my body shape (things I was self-conscious about)

And it didn’t just give generic advice… it got specific.

It told me:
• which necklines make me look taller and more balanced
• why some tops hit at the worst possible spot (never knew this)
• exactly what size to order based on each brand’s chart
• I uploaded pictures of tops I was considering based on the recommendations and got perspective.

The best part?

For someone that hates shopping like me, it helped me avoid a bunch of “almost right” purchases that I 100% would have regretted.

Instead, I now have:
✨ tops that actually flatter my shape
✨ outfits that feel intentional
✨ fewer random Amazon returns

Honestly… this is one of the most unexpectedly useful ways I’ve used AI.

There’s a lot in the headlines lately about major shifts from changes in procurement policy designed to support key sectors and workforce needs, to teams digging deep in the Winter Olympics. 

And it makes me think about this:

• a team rallying after an early setback
• a training room moment nobody ever sees
• a person trying something hard again and again

Whether it’s athletes chasing Olympic dreams or teams trying to solve big workforce challenges, what unites real progress is this:

A reminder today that what matters most isn’t just where you end up,

It's that I learned about the most horrific thing done to children by the men who run *all of this*, before I even left my bed this morning. 

It's the constant deluge of messages on every platform, and the expectation that we are all always available, everywhere, and if we're not, then we're failing. 

It's that we can work this hard and do this much, and they still laugh at us when they think we're not listening. 

It's all of it. 

It's untenable to live in this reality right now as a woman and a mom, and I'm going to do more about it. But in the meantime,  I do apologize for missing your email. 

But I want you to know, it is absolutely not you. 

I love you.
