Wells of Joy Ministries 

Wells of Joy exists to glorify God in the service of the families of the Lunga Lunga slums in Nairobi, Kenya. Our primary means of service is to provide a Christ-centered, high-quality education for children aged infant to 8th grade. We aim to offer a safe environment where these children can be fed, educated, discipled, and given the tools to escape the perils of their surroundings. 

I have been a long time supporter of this ministry and have visited them multiple times. In 2019, I was asked to assume the role of Chairman of the Board for their US operation.  It is amazing to me how much can be done for so little. This ministry feeds and educates 300+ children for ~$30/child. 

At Wells of Joy, we seek to address the spiritual and educational needs of the community by using our facility as a church and a school.

Ministering to people who live in the slum is unlike any other ministry. Life in the slum is a daily struggle with utter poverty and its degrading and dehumanizing impact. Because the most basic needs for life are so scarce many parents struggle to provide for their families while sheltering them from the negative influences surrounding them.

We believe lives can be changed by offering hope, support, and encouragement through education.

After surviving the Internet boom of the 90s, in 2000, I started WebDex Media Group, an Internet marketing consultancy, to help companies leverage the web to grow sales. 

In 2010, I sold WebDex to Splash Media. While there, I developed the tactical wheel, which has become a standard for training & implementing social media marketing.  

In 2012 I wrote Social Rules! which is available at bookstores today. (Ping me for a free ebook version). In the fall of 2020, I started writing Social Selling Rules! which will help sales teams maximize their online exposure and results for finding leads and moving prospects through the sales funnel.

Most marketing teams aren’t struggling because they lack effort. They’re struggling because they’re organized around the wrong things.

Over the years, I’ve seen two common ways teams try to drive revenue.

The first is campaign-led marketing.
Work is planned in quarters and managed like a series of projects. Product launches, industry pushes, one-off promotions. It runs on a calendar, not the buyer’s decision process. When the campaign ends, momentum fades.

The second is channel-led marketing.
Teams organize around PPC, email, social, and content. Everything is always on. But the programs don’t always reinforce each other. You end up optimizing channel metrics instead of funnel performance.

Here’s the problem.

Buyers don’t experience marketing the way we organize it.

They’re trying to understand a problem.
They research quietly.
They compare options.
They pull in peers.
And they don’t move forward until the risk of doing nothing feels greater than the risk of change.

None of that maps cleanly to a campaign calendar or a channel dashboard.

A more effective approach starts with the buyer.

How do buyers in your market actually research?
What questions slow deals down?
What builds confidence and what creates friction?

Campaigns and channels still matter. But they aren’t the strategy.

The strategy is reducing buyer uncertainty.
Campaigns and channels exist to support that goal.

If marketing feels busy but revenue feels stalled, this is usually why.

I just attended the Lean Solutions Group SKO in Miami, and it reinforced something I’ve seen throughout my career.

Marketing works best when it actively aligns with sales. When it doesn’t, the buyer experience becomes inconsistent, and revenue metrics suffer.

So, why should marketing be an active participant?

First, SKOs are a pressure test for your marketing strategy.

This year, we walked through how marketing is supporting sales in 2026, from branding and demand generation to mid-funnel programs and customer expansion.

Goals are aligned, teams are larger, and investment in growth is increasing. Sales sees the focus and how marketing supports them in hitting their numbers.

Second, SKOs align marketing with how sellers actually sell.

Participating in sales training shows marketers how deals are qualified, how value is framed, and how buyers are guided through decisions.

That context matters because rigid handoffs are a dated way of working. Marketing influences decisions from early awareness through purchase, and alignment with sales needs to exist across that entire process.

Finally, being present builds real relationships with the sales organization.

Trust improves. Feedback becomes faster and more honest. Marketing stops feeling like a downstream support function and starts operating like a true revenue partner.

Marketing has to show up where sales takes shape. Sales kickoffs are one of those moments.

LinkedIn is not Facebook.

At least, it doesn’t work best when we treat it that way.

I use LinkedIn to learn, improve my work and life, and stay connected with colleagues. I want to see how smart people are solving problems, leading teams, and building better lives.

I also like celebrating wins and offering support to people in my network.

That’s the value of this platform. It’s the community; not Likes or eyeballs.

This isn’t about removing your personality from LinkedIn. Business is built on personal relationships. Healthy work lives include our health, relationships, and mindset.

But for me, LinkedIn works best when posts have intent and substance. When they share perspectives, lessons learned, or ideas worth discussing.

It’s a place to collaborate, exchange ideas, and build relationships that move work forward.
