Little Book Nook is an online bookstore selling a curated range of children's books. 
All of the books are carefully selected and cover a range of topics that aim to inspire a love of reading in young children as well as teaching them important life lessons along the way. 
These topics include kindness, friendship, teamwork, diversity & inclusion, emotional development, mindfulness, growth mindset, dealing with difficult situations such as death, relocation & divorce as well as environmental awareness.

My website includes a selection of teaching resources (available as digital downloads) which I developed & created during my teaching career as well as an educational blog which I created to share my favourite educational resource links with other teachers & parents.

Little Book Nook was built on a desire to share my love for children's books and their unique way of teaching important concepts or delivering important messages to young children in a gentle, relatable way as well as helping others (mostly parents, teachers & child/educational therapists) to find the best books to suit their specific needs.

I have done everything from designing my logo & packaging to sourcing & setting up accounts with suppliers & service providers, purchasing stock, building my own website from scratch (using WIX), managing my social media pages & doing all of my own content creation, establishing relationships with my customers and everything in between. 
It has been an exciting journey for me with plenty of learning along the way (& lots to still learn).

This is by far the most important & most rewarding job title that I have ever held as well as my greatest achievement - it deserves a space on my LinkedIn profile. 

During my 4 years in this position, I have honed my skills in multitasking, negotiation, and problem-solving to legendary levels. Balancing chaos with grace, I am the CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) and CPO (Chief Problem Officer) of our household.

Problem-Solving Maestro: Tackling complex challenges with creativity and resourcefulness, whether it's locating a lost favourite stuffed animal or building an impressive tower of magnetic tiles.

Zen Guru: Cultivating inner peace amidst the storm, finding serenity in the chaos and humour in the messes, knowing that being a mom is the ultimate adventure, filled with love, laughter, and lots of coffee.

I taught in Grade 0 (R) for 3 years
In March 2020 we went into a national lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the lockdown we reinvented the way that we taught our learners by developing an online learning curriculum and home learning activities. We taught our little learners online via Microsoft Teams for a few months before we were eventually able to return to the classroom in August 2020. 
During this time, I created some PowerPoint based lessons that could be screen shared via MS Teams to assist us in teaching our learners online. I thoroughly enjoyed creating these resources and found that they really helped in keeping my students engaged during online lessons. 
For the remainder of the year 2020, we had some learners attending class in person, whilst others remained at home and attended live-streamed classes. 
I resigned from Charterhouse pre-primary school at the end of the 2020 school year and we moved to Cape Town in February 2020.

In my role as a Grade 0 teacher, I was responsible for a class of 25 learners, including lesson planning, preparation & teaching, assessments, classroom management, teacher admin duties, communication with parents & collaboration with my fellow teachers.

I worked as a Grade 000 teacher for 4 years (January 2014 - December 2017). 
During this time, I completed my B.Ed ECD Foundation Phase degree through UNISA & graduated Cum Laude.
I applied for a position Teaching Grade 0 and moved into this position in January 2018.

I started working at Charterhouse Pre-primary school as a teaching assistant in January 2013. 
During this year I had the opportunity to work alongside a wonderful team of teachers from Grades 000 - Grade 0. 
I assisted the teachers in their classrooms and also filled-in for teachers when they were on leave. 
At the end of 2013 I applied for a Grade 000 teaching position.

As a Foundation Phase Coding and Robotics Teacher for Grades 0-2, I draw upon my extensive experience in early childhood education to foster a love for learning and innovation in young minds. I am passionate about integrating computational thinking skills into our curriculum through hands-on, engaging, and play-based lessons. These foundational experiences not only prepare students for future coding endeavors but also equip them with essential 21st-century skills. Every day, I am inspired by the opportunity to learn and grow alongside my students, nurturing their curiosity and creativity.

As an educator, I believe in seeing each learner as a unique individual. Encouraging them to embrace the power of being who they are whilst guiding them to develop according to their own interests, strengths & skills.
My years in the classroom have played an instrumental role in making me the person that I am today, from the connections that I have made with my students, parents & fellow colleagues to the skills and resilience that I have gained along the way. 

Inspired by my passion for education, technology & design, I use every opportunity to enhance the learning experiences of my students by integrating technology into the classroom and developing new resources to ensure that students are engaged and accommodated according to their learning styles. My skills in these specific areas came to the rescue whilst navigating the unchartered territories of teaching online during lockdown 2020. I invested many hours into developing interactive resources to keep my students interested & engaged during online lessons. 

In my free time, I enjoy getting lost in online learning platforms and tutorials for up-skilling myself and further pursuing my own interests. I am currently learning iOS development with the goal of being able to transform the learning resources that I have designed into fully functional educational apps. 

On a more personal note - I am also a wife, mom, side-hustle business owner, happy camper/vintage caravaner, coffee drinker, aaaand aspiring children's book author.
