So if you expect a nice bouquet for IWD 2026, I have to disappoint you. Those of you who have been following me for some years, know that each there is this shoutout to 5 women. Until we achieve some kind of parity in business.

First of Romina Medici who I met at a conference in April last year. Romina has a track record that is nothing short of amazing. On top of that she is also a genuinely cool person and has one of the most positive badass attitudes in business I have ever seen.

Asmaa Hechenberger and I met online first and I still don't know why she was nervous about recording a podcast! Asmaa's success in Data speaks for itself and her engagement in non-profit organizations / NGOs like Black Professionals Europe are just inspiring.

The dear Katharina Mager-Mičijević totally impressed me with her founding story of Ai.tonomy, which makes the achievement of running a weekly podcast (Wunderpanik) even more impressive.

I know Margarita Neumüller for some time now, but during the last years she fought and won a battle, I hope no one of you ever has to experience. Rita made her cancer story public and fought back to success after a brutal setback that would have many people left in dispair.

Closing out the round this year is Alexandra Feix who's trajectory seems to just know one direction. Alex made the switch from SAP analytics to AI like it was a walk in the park. Bringing back Eduard Vossloh as a digital assistant.

At some point I limited myself to naming 5 women here, but I could go on for hours. So please support those names and all others who are doing incredible work.


Some final remarks:
Last year I had some sad/shocking experiences regarding female representation in Data & AI. Apparently, some people consider it a good idea to invite me to a panel or roundtable, as participant or moderator. Of course it felt great in the first place, but one too many times I ended up participating in a sausage fest on stage that made me uncomfortable.

So from this year on:
If you want me to participate or moderate a panel or roundtable for a Data & AI topic - Make sure we have close to 50% non-male persons on the stage!
Else I'm out!

Viele Ärztinnen und Ärzte nutzen natürlich auch schon (generative) KI in Ihrem Alltag. Zum Beispiel bei Arztbriefen.
Wer die nicht kennt, darin schreibt eine Ärztin der Kollegin was sie bei dir festgestellt hat und welche Medikamente du bekommst.
Natürlich passieren da Fehler, sowohl bei Menschen als auch bei Maschinen.
Wenn eine gute Ärztin wie Dr. Laura Dalhaus, MaHM hast, dann fällt der Fehler schnell auf.

Aber warum müssen Ärztinnen effizienter werden? Weil sie 61 Arbeitstage im Jahr mit Verwaltung verbringen müssen, statt mit Patientinnen.
Daher gibt Laura dem deutschen Gesundheitssystem derzeit eine 5-

Unter anderem:
Weil das System Bedürfnisse befriedigt, statt Bedarfe zu decken.
Ärztinnen und Krankenhäuser Fälle generieren müssen um profitabel zu bleiben, statt Menschen gesund zu machen.

Are we cooked?



The people who know me in person could confirm, that despite some cynicism and biting humor, usually I'm a rather optimistic person.
With all the doom and gloom around in the news, at times it can be hard.
And let me tell you one thing: Yes, I'm scared and worried too.

Matt Shumer's (in)famous essay "Something Big Is Happening" (reference: https://lnkd.in/dZy339wT) sums up a large part of it quite well. Although the timeframe is estimated differently by many persons and I do not necessarily agree there, I feel the inevitability of it quite heavily.

The good news: We are probably not cooked yet! And you have a large part of it still in your own hands.
But you better get started soon.


I'm not trying to sell you an online course, template or similar nonsense, but let me share my personal agenda to not fall behind.

✅ 8-12 hours of AI training/experimenting outside work (time estimation by Barbara Lampl). Try stuff, experiment with tools, limit-test them. The boundaries have shifted significantly here. And you should know some of the tools and their boundaries. To keep your motivation work on playful stuff (Markus Utomo has great content here). If you are into a specific football club, try to use AI to create a fanpage, etc. 

📖12 books this year from different areas. Being a master of one specific topic is awesome, but a broader knowledge will help you staying relevant. Switching career paths might become mandatory for some of us, so be prepared. Elisabeth L'Orange inspired me to read far out of my usual comfort zone, so "Cain" from Jose Saramago was a total outlier in January. 

🎙️Become visible. With HR leaning into mainly automated ATS Systems and competition for jobs getting harder, connections and a robust, reliable and trusted network, will become even more valuable assets. If people know you for certain things and trust you, this will increase your chances of getting hired, promoted or landing a deal. Not everybody is a f*cking extrovert like I am or comfortable with speaking in a podcast or in front of a camera. And there is a plethora of other tools, like text-based content. From LinkedIn, X to substack (check out Maria Sukhareva for that) or a personal blog your options are quite broad.

Hope there is something you can take away for yourself.

Ich wollte einkaufen und keine seiten langen Texte auf Packungen lesen!


Was haben der Wocheneinkauf, "High Protein" Joghurt und vegetarische Alternativen mit Data Literacy zu tun?
Für Meike Seidel war der Weg in die Datenwelt nicht sehr gerade, sondern führte sie über eine App die blinden Menschen den Einkauf erleichtern sollte.
Mittlerweile diskutiert sie über Datenbanken und Indizes um Informationen zugänglicher zu machen.

Aber der Reihe nach.
Wenn du einkaufen gehst kannst du das nach Bauchgefühl oder mit Zettel machen. Deine Vorlieben und Einschränkungen kennst du.
Sollten aber andere Dinge dazu kommen, wie die Allergien oder Ernährungsformen von Freunden, dann wird es schon schnell unübersichtlich.

Dann wird der Einkauf schnell zum Spießroutenlauf und du verbringst mehr Zeit mit Packungen lesen als damit das richtige Regal zu finden.
Auch wenn Martin Bubenheimer und ich da sehr viel diskutieren können.
Mich nervt das extrem eine Packung Kartoffelchips zu prüfen ob da nicht irgendein Mist reingemischt wurde und die Sorte "ungarische Paprika" für Vegetarier ungeeignet ist oder mein Eis schrumpft oder wirklich mehr Protein in der "High Protein" Alternative ist.

Das Gefühl verarscht zu werden bleibt.
Genau da setzt Meike an. Die Informationen über viele Produkte ist im GDSN Index. Leider nicht alle. Und ihr habt keine Ahnung wie kreativ man "Weizen" schreiben kann.
Und so gehen wir auch in das Daten Abenteuer der Lebensmittel.
Laden, strukturieren, säubern.

Will the Epstein files become as (in)famous as the Titanic data?



This might sound like a wild take, but the Epstein files might be on the way to becoming the new Titanic Data set.

The sinking of the RMS Titanic is a very commonly known disaster, with 1514 casualties. It was immortalized by a movie that anchored it in the memory of at least a whole generation.
Data wise there are datasets regarding the passengers, featuring some information about them (e.g. gender, ticket class, cabin, survival).
As the catastrophe is so familiar to many people the data set has been used for a plethora of applications.
Showcases in data visualization, machine learning competitions (see below).

The disaster itself and the casualties are horrible, from a data perspective the set was good for learning.
- Real world data with mistakes
- Structured data
- Emotionally relevant (see movie)
So people engaged in working with the data and could see problems in real world data, that are not present in most academic test data for exercised.

Fast forward over 100 years on catastrophe.
As technology progressed so has data. The (partial) release of the Epstein Files put a huge set of unstructured data about a criminal network into the world. Analyzing those files by hand is impossible.
The data is unstructured, partially redacted and larger by scales compared to the Titanic data.
However, it is also highly relevant for many people and we made technological advanced in the last years that might help us tackle this.
Below you find a link about how someone worked in the details in a RAG pipeline to yield better results for huge datasets, by applying it to the Epstein Files data.

So on the one hand the technological advances might help us uncover stuff in those files.
On the other hand we might have created a new dataset that will might be used by future generations for training and showcases.

Bei Kreativität hat GenAI noch Limitationen!



Eine generative KI in einen wirklich kreativen Modus zu versetzen ist schwer. Was aber bisher immer fehlt, ist die Emotion, wenn Menschen interagieren.

Nano banana and Claude might idealize me a bit 😅



Let me share something from the prompting adventures of my AI Journey.
In best "practice what you preach" manner, I am currently experimenting with the new model generations a fair bit. And let me tell you it's a) fun b) interesting.

The chain of thought:
Create a prompt for a consistent character to be reused for various images. The character should be recognized immediately.
Style should stay consistent.
Then create some sample images.

Process and limitations:
Claude for creating a consistent prompt of the character.
Fed three public images of myself to it do describe the person depicted.
Set style and colors.
Interesting fun fact: The three colors were entered in RGB channels. Claude correctly translated them to Hex Codes in the prompt. (f*ck off strawberry).

The prompt along with a scene description was entered in nano banana via gemini web interface in thinking mode (needs some exploration of that really matters).

The learing:
Character looks consistent although i bit idealized.
Nano banana ignored some of the instructions, if they contradicted each other. (Color palette strictly: black #000000, white #FFFFFF, orange #FF2521 for highlights only. // Light brown hair). It went off the three colors sometimes. The orange was not the desired color (which is not surprising).
There is a slight overfitting with the shirt, always depicting a skull. (- Black graphic t-shirt underneath (can feature bold text or skull/metal imagery)).
This can have multiple reasons. The skull is in the prompt before metal and the very famous comic character Frank Castle - The punisher also features a skull on his shirt.
So this requires some refining if the prompt should be used for broader applications.

Other things discovered:
Although nano banana can be great at refining the output it sometimes just gets stuck and gives back the unchanged image.
Image creation still is quite interesting when giving the same prompt multiple times.
So in the future a scaling process might include executing the same prompt multiple times and then picking the best result.


This is what I mean by learning in a fun context as I do like comics a fair bit. So now the challenge is to build the muscles to match the images?
Does anyone know a good plastic surgeon?
