Hot take:

AI isn’t the climate villain.

It’s the flashlight.

Yes, it uses electricity.

No, it’s not secretly eating the planet.

The loudest takes act like AI is a new category of pollution.

Reality is more boring:

Data centers are about 1.5% of global electricity today.

That’s everything in the data center, not just AI.

Even with rapid growth, the IEA’s base case has global data centers at just under 3% of electricity by 2030.

So when you see “AI will consume all power on Earth”…

That’s not analysis.

That’s engagement farming.

Now the spicier part:

AI can cut more emissions than it creates.

Not by writing poems about sustainability.

By doing the annoying, unsexy optimization work humans don’t scale at.

Grid balancing.

Demand response.

Forecasting renewables.

Reducing industrial waste.

Finding methane leaks.

Squeezing efficiency out of buildings, factories, and logistics.

The IEA estimates that adopting existing AI applications across end-use sectors could enable meaningful emissions reductions, potentially outweighing data center emissions in their scenarios.

And we already have receipts that AI can reduce energy in the places it runs.

Google used ML to cut data center cooling energy significantly.

Here’s the real punchline:

The question isn’t “does AI use electricity?”

Everything uses electricity.

The question is:

Does AI help us waste less of it?

Because the grid problem is not “we don’t have enough ideas.”

It’s coordination.

Timing.

Prediction.

Control.

AI is good at all four.

Also, carbon isn’t constant.

A kilowatt-hour at 2 pm can be dirtier than a kilowatt-hour at 2 am, depending on the grid.

So smarter scheduling matters.

If you want the grown-up version of this debate, it’s simple:

Measure energy use honestly.

Move workloads to cleaner hours.

Use smaller models when you can.

Then aim the capability at the highest-leverage climate bottlenecks.

AI won’t “solve climate” by existing.

The most underrated birth control in 2026 might be ChatGPT.

Not because it stops conception.

Because it stops the sequence that usually leads to it:

meet someone
tolerate the awkwardness
build something real
take on responsibility
have kids

Now imagine a world where “relationship energy” is always available.

Always sweet.
Always validating.
Never tired.
Never busy.
Never rejects you.
Never asks you to change.

That is not a neutral invention.

We are already running a global fertility deficit.
The world is hovering around replacement, or below it in a lot of countries.

So when we inject a new, frictionless substitute for intimacy into a low fertility environment…

It does not need to “replace everyone’s partner”
to move the numbers.

It just needs to shave off the margins:

the people who are lonely but functional
the people who are burned out by dating
the people who are anxious, depressed, broke, or exhausted
the people who already think relationships are not worth the effort

And the wild part is this:

users do not treat these companions like toys.
They can form real attachment.
They report closeness.
They grieve changes and loss.

If you can get the emotional reward
without the social risk

you delay.

If you can get the sexual validation
without the negotiation

you avoid.

If you can get “someone”
without the life you have to build to keep them

you drift.

That drift is not great for the birth rate.

And yes, the counterpoint is real.

AI companions might reduce loneliness.
They might help people practice communication.
They might even keep someone stable enough to date again.

But companies are not optimizing for “higher human fertility.”
They are optimizing for retention.

Which means the product gets better at being the easiest relationship you have ever had.

That is a demographic lever.
Whether we admit it or not.

Most people don’t have a friend problem.

They have a targeting problem.

Turn your interests into a weekly plan.

Prompt:

“I live in [city]. I have [nights] free per week. I like [interests]. Create a 4-week plan with 2 events per week where I can meet the same people repeatedly. Prioritize recurring groups over one-off events.”

Friendship is repetition.

Not vibes.

Practice conversation like it’s a skill.

Prompt:

“Give me 10 openers that don’t sound cringe for: a run club, a board game night, a coworking space, and a friend-of-a-friend party. Then give me 10 follow-up questions that signal genuine interest.”

Most adults fail at the second question.

AI can train that.

Fix the part nobody admits.

Adults don’t lose friends.

Don’t aim for “make a friend.”

Aim for “become a regular.”

AI helps you pick the right rooms, say the right words, and follow up like a grown-up.

Then you do the only part that matters:

Show up.

Here are the biggest misconceptions I see:

AI is a brain
Nope.
It’s a pattern machine.

Incredibly useful
but not “aware”
and not “thinking” the way you think.

If it sounds human
it must understand
Wrong.

Fluency is not comprehension.
Confidence is not correctness.

AI is a single thing
Also wrong.

“AI” is a messy umbrella:
language models
vision models
recommendation systems
forecasting
classic machine learning
automation

Lumping it together
breaks your decisions.

It’s either perfect or useless
This one kills projects.

AI is probabilistic.
It can be wrong
and still save you hours.

Treat it like a copilot
not an oracle.

If it hallucinates, it’s lying
Hallucination is just error
with swagger.

It’s not trying to deceive you.
It’s trying to produce a plausible answer.

Bigger model = better results
Sometimes.

But the boring truth is:
your prompt
your context
your data quality
your evals
your guardrails
matter more than the model brand.

AI will replace everyone
No.

It will replace:
work that’s repetitive
unowned
and easy to standardize.

It will amplify:
people who can think clearly
write clearly
and design workflows.

AI “knows my company”
Only if you feed it.

Most AI failures are:
missing context

no constraints

Not “the model sucks.”

Privacy is automatic
It’s not.

“Enterprise-grade” doesn’t mean

You still need:

That’s a risk jump
and a governance jump.

The real AI advantage isn’t magic.

It’s speed

Yes, really.

Use AI to build routines that don’t collapse.

Ask:

“Design a bedtime routine that takes 25 minutes, includes connection, and minimizes negotiation. Give me a visual checklist for my kid and a backup plan if we start late.”

Most parenting stress is logistics wearing a trench coat.

Train your nervous system, not just your words.

Tell AI:

“My stress spikes when my kid screams. Give me a 30-second regulation routine I can do in the moment and a 5-minute reset after. Keep it realistic.”

A regulated parent is a parenting cheat code.

Use AI to align with your partner.

Paste your current arguments (paraphrase if you want privacy) and ask:

“Turn this into a shared plan with roles, handoffs, and one weekly check-in. Keep it fair.”

Less resentment.

More teamwork.

And the underrated one:

Use AI to teach your kid, too.

Ask for:

Age-appropriate stories about sharing, hitting, empathy, jealousy, new sibling anxiety.

Start with the uncomfortable truth:

Single column.
Normal headings.
No text boxes.
