The best time to be interviewing is when you're really happy at your current job.⁣

A lot of people wait till things get bad or they become unemployed to start job hunting.⁣
⁣
But this is a mistake, because in the eyes of a recruiter, when you actually have a job, you are more valuable.⁣
⁣
You are more wanted.⁣
You are a prized possession.⁣
⁣
You are also able to take on interviews at a much more leisurely pace and pick and choose where you want to land.⁣

There's something subconscious when you have a job and interviewing.⁣
⁣
You have confidence and conviction in your words because you are not desperate.⁣

I was speaking to someone two weeks ago.⁣
⁣
They finally secured a high-paying CSM job.⁣
⁣
How?⁣

They took a lower one first.⁣
⁣
Simply because they had income coming in, they felt a huge weight off their shoulders entering the other interviews.⁣

I'm not saying to job hunt every six months.⁣
⁣
I think that's really stupid, and it takes years to learn a product and an industry; but it doesn't hurt to find out how much you're worth.⁣

Maybe you're being underpaid.⁣
⁣
Maybe there's a company that is incredible.⁣
⁣
Maybe you should start looking over the fence.⁣
⁣
Because there is grass….and it may be greener...

I guarantee 99% of ALL CSMs forgot to do this last quarter (I'll Venmo you if I'm wrong)


Write down your accomplishments.

Every single one of them.

You crushed it last quarter but you didn't document any of it.

1. You saved that account from churning but you already forgot the details of how you actually pulled it off.

2. You hit 119% NRR but you can't remember the specific conversations that got you there.

3. You onboarded 15 new clients seamlessly but it's already a blur because you moved on to the next fire.

And then 6 months from now when you need to update your resume or ask for a raise or justify your existence in a layoff meeting...

You'll sit there staring at a blank screen trying to remember what you actually did.

Meanwhile the CSM who documented everything walks into that same meeting and says:

"I saved a $2M account in Q3 with one phone call at midnight because I heard panic in the VP's voice and knew something was wrong."

Guess who gets the raise?
Guess who survives the layoff?

Don't be that person scrambling to remember.

Every Friday, take 10 minutes and write down:

- Accounts you saved and how you saved them
- Revenue you protected or grew and the exact dollar amount
- Problems you solved that nobody else could figure out
- Feedback you received from customers or leadership
- Wins, big or small, because they all add up

Your future self will thank you when you're sitting across from a hiring manager and you have receipts instead of "uhh I think I did well that quarter."

Don't be so humble that you forget to flex your value.

Because nobody else will do it for you.

How David went from 1 year unemployed to an $100K CSM in 29 days (without networking)


David was an experienced CSM from LA.

He'd managed millions in ARR, expanded enterprise accounts, and crushed quarter after quarter like it was nothing.

When layoffs hit, none of that mattered.

(many of us have felt this)

He was unemployed for 12 months.

𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲. 
𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀.

Do you know what 12 months of unemployment does to a person??

Watching your savings drain week after week while you pretend everything's fine at family dinners because you can't handle another 

"𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴?" 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Checking your bank account at 2am knowing the number is only going one direction.

Applying to 50 jobs a week, getting ghosted by 49 of them, and wondering if you even know how to do this job anymore.

The confidence that took you 8 years to build? Gone in 6 months.

David made it to final rounds MULTIPLE times.

Same rejection every time: "We went another direction."

The feedback loop we all get:

"Not the right industry fit" (after working across 3 industries)
"Portfolio size doesn't match" (after managing $4M in ARR)
"Need more experience" (after 4 years in CS)

He could do the job.

But his resume wasn't showing it and his confidence was completely gone.

So David stopped spinning and reached out.

→ A tech recruiter rewrote his resume to highlight million-dollar wins
→ Auto-apply tools scaled him to 40+ applications daily

What if relationships don't matter in customer success or renewals?⁣

We've all had a client that we got along with.⁣
⁣
Heck, you might have really liked each other; but they left for a competitor.⁣
⁣
Why did this happen?⁣
⁣
Ultimately, the client left because they no longer had a compelling reason to stay.⁣
⁣
And too many customer success managers (myself included) at the beginning of our career overindex on personal relationships.⁣
⁣
But what people don't understand is that personal relationships will NOT keep a customer there.⁣
⁣
The specific impact that a personal relationship has with a customer is to have a true line of communication.⁣
⁣
That is the only thing it actually gives you.⁣
⁣
If your product is trash, you're screwed.⁣
If your product is not stable, you're screwed.⁣
If your support is poor, you're screwed.⁣
⁣
And that's why I think a lot of customer success managers are going to be out of a job in the next 24 months.⁣
⁣
They think that having a relationship means having a job, but it doesn't.⁣
⁣
If you are not a strategic mind of your customer's business, you are truly worthless.⁣
⁣
Don’t know the product? Learn it!⁣
⁣
You have become an order taker...aka an owl at Hogwarts.⁣
⁣
To change this, what I have been doing the past four years as an enterprise customer success manager is pretending that I am an investor in this company.⁣
⁣
Next time before your client call; enter their mindset.⁣
⁣
Then I jump on a call; I say, "If I were the CEO of your business, I would do A, B, C, and D."⁣
⁣
Because nobody cares if you answer their emails quickly.
⁣
What they care about is you have a strategic vision to help their business GROW.

Money. Quid. Dollar Bills. Shekals. Raha. ⁣Euros.

Others chase logos and ego boosts⁣.

There are 1,000 boring companies I had never heard of.⁣

Truly, I never HEARD of any of the companies i've worked for.⁣

But there I was and hear I am.

So many are paying 100K, remote, with great benefits.⁣
⁣
And they actually hire.⁣

While others fight for the 1 job at Google...⁣

My clients take the check from the boring company.⁣
 ⁣
Ego doesn't pay rent...but keep on aiming for that "Google dream job"

Living in Finland is like living in Narnia...


You walk outside and it's pitch black at 3pm like the sun just gave up on you.

The forests look like they're hiding talking animals and ancient secrets.

And everyone acts like -20°C is "not that bad" while you're questioning every life decision that brought you here.

(I do this daily)

But nobody complains.

Because complaining in Finland is basically a crime; you just suffer in silence and drink coffee and get kalsarikännit

The Finns have this thing called "sisu" which roughly translates to "shut up and deal with it"

There's something beautiful about a country where:

- Silence isn't awkward, it's respected
- Personal space is a love language
- Strangers don't make small talk (its EPIC)
- The sauna fixes everything, and I mean everything

Maybe Finland isn't Narnia.

Maybe it's better?

A place where honesty thrives and nobody asks "how are you" unless they actually want to know.

Oh, and you can walk by people you know and ignore them if you don't like them....its truly epic.

And in 2026...

Marketing costs are through the roof.

CAC is at an all-time high.

Every executive is running around panicked looking for a solve.

But....

The silver bullet has been sitting in the corner getting underpaid and overlooked this entire time.

The CSM

The main thing keeping these SaaS companies alive is them.

I watch the AE bring them in.

With promises the product can't keep.

With timelines that are completely unrealistic.

With features that don't exist yet but "should be ready by Q2."

Then they close the deal, collect their commission, and peace out.

The CSM is left holding the bag.

They are the Iron Dome.
They are the Hoover Dam.
They are the Wall of Westeros.

They secure the renewal that keeps the lights on.

Without that renewal, the company dies.

LinkedIn career coaches tell people to "tailor each resume."

But why does nobody question that?

If you spend 30 minutes customizing each application, 2,000 apps = 1,000 hours.

That's 6 months of full-time work just tweaking resumes.

Six.

My clients get results because I've understood something these coaches don't:

It's a numbers game, not a perfection game.

Career coaches love giving easy advice:

"Tailor your resume for each role."
"Customize your cover letter."
"Use keywords from the job description."

It's comfort food for job seekers

(Who doesn't love McDonalds I get it)

But, it makes you feel productive while keeping you unemployed longer.

Most of them have never been recruiters.
They've never applied for jobs in 2026.

Some call themselves "recruiters" after being in the space for one year 💀

They're giving 2019 advice in a market where you're competing against 500 other CSMs for the same role.

Recruiters spend 6 seconds on your resume.

They don't read cover letters when they have 1,000 applications.

They're skimming, not studying your carefully crafted customizations.

I hate to break it to you habibi; you're not that special 

Your perfectly tailored application isn't going to make them fall in love with you.

While you spend 2 hours perfecting one application, someone else applied to 20 jobs with a solid resume.

Guess who's getting the interviews?

LinkedIn career coaches are selling comfort food (and it's giving me diabetes)


"Networking is key."
"Tailor your resume."
"Find your passion."

It sounds nice and it feels safe and it makes you feel like you're doing something productive when you're actually just spinning your wheels.

But here's the problem...

It keeps people unemployed for months while they "perfect" their resume and wait for the "right opportunity" to magically appear in their inbox.

I see coaches who haven't hired a CSM since 2019 telling people how to get hired in 2026 like the market hasn't completely transformed.

They're teaching trench warfare tactics when you're getting hit with drone strikes from every direction.

The market changed and nobody sent them the memo.

Recruiters use AI filters now that scan your resume in 6 seconds and toss it in the trash if it doesn't hit the right keywords.

Hiring managers are getting 500 applications for a single role and they don't have time to read your beautifully crafted cover letter.

Volume is the way through, not sitting around waiting for your "network" to come through for you.

I find listening to outdated advice from people who haven't been in the job market in years isn't just a waste of time.

It's genuinely dangerous because it gives you false hope while your savings account drains and your confidence crumbles.

I prefer advice from the people who are actually in the fire right now, fighting for roles and seeing what works in real time.

Not the ones watching from the balcony sipping coffee and telling you to "stay positive" while you're drowning.
