Hey! I’m Janis Ozolins

End of 2016, by a lucky accident, I found a new dream for myself. Make a living online.

4 years later (a time filled with learning, failed experiments, and consumed content), still no revenue or audience.

Then I stumbled into the idea of communicating through visuals. I loved it and pursued it seriously.

6 months later, I felt momentum and left my corporate job. 1 year later, my visuals brought in more money than I made in my 9-5.

My dream to make a living online was complete. I’m feeling very grateful writing this.

Now I spend my time learning, creating, and teaching.

I'm Sonja [pronounced almost like Sonia] 👋 I specialize in helping organizations and companies communicate better through design, maps, and illustrations.

In a world full of noise, I'm here to design messages that need to cut through and be seen. 

I do think that communication should be easy - especially when design is involved. 

✨ WHERE I INTRODUCE CREATIVE COMMUNICATION:

1 -  HELPING PLACES TELL THEIR STORIES - every location has its narrative, stories that connect and stories that celebrate communities within those locations. I help places, towns, parts of towns and cities tell their stories through design and maps and drawings.

2 - SHOWING WHAT DATA ACTUALLY MEANS: Many of us have experienced presentations where we are bombarded with endless numbers and statistics, but nothing seems to stick. I helped a Parisian hotel real estate agency sell a hotel worth 8 million euros.

3 - DELIGHTING A CLIENT: we all know that it's not easy to delight a client these days - everything seems to be “old news". My CUSTOM MADE MAPS have been a huge success with LUXURY HOTEL guests - they help them understand the place better and give them something pretty to take home. 

4 - SHOWING THAT YOU CARE: I care about my clients and people I work with care about theirs: from entertaining and smart-designed presentations and pitch decks to teabags for five stars hotels. Design should help us connect.

A BIT ABOUT ME

🎤 I switch between French, English, and Serbian a couple of times per hour.

📚 I read four pages of book every day for the last 11 years

🫖 I drink a lot of tea

In the first 26 years of my life, I lived in four countries without changing my street. One of my favorite possessions as a kid was my dad's atlas from 1969. My geography professor said that I had to get a new one for her class "as things have changed" 🗺️  I was surprised and mesmerized by maps ever since. 

I do believe that all we know about the world, all that data, needs to be communicated in a better - and more gentle - way in order for people to listen. That is the only way we will get to change the world and make better future for us all.
