This was the company where my career in growth took flight. Alongside CEO Joe Urban, we designed a category to launch and dominate (Predictive Health). While at Potrero, we were very heavy on media and using growth strategies to grow awareness with the market and investors. We were also the first medical device company with a podcast. 

One of my accomplishments was during the start of the pandemic I was allowed to put my growth strategies to the test by generating surgeon interest in open geographies. Within 60 days I had put on 35 demos that created the most deals in the company. I did not close these deals but my thesis around using social media to grow awareness, generate demand, and demo virtually was validated. 

When I left Potrero the deals I had put in the pipeline ranged from the most prestigious academic centers to large for-profit IDNs as well as regional hospitals. The departments also ranged from cardiac surgery to critical care.

Mazor Robotics (Acquired by Medtronic for $1.6B)

Mazor Robotics was a  medical device company and the world's first robotic guidance system for spine and later developed neurosurgery application with. The company was acquired by Medtronic for $1.3B. Some of my career highlights were:

-Executed commercial launch of PROlat™ procedure in March 2016. The procedure was a cutting edge development in lateral spine surgery as well as minimally invasive spine surgery.

-Launched first major live surgery event in company history.

-Developed and managed business development and sales processes that affected clinical and capital sales team which was made up of 45 sales representatives, 7 clinical sales managers, and 10 capital sales managers. 

-Managed a marketing/sales budget of $2M. 

-Streamlined divisions by developing a corporate marketing plan.

-Improved operating efficiencies through negotiating contracts and leveraging internal assets. 

-Redesigned lead generation strategy. 

-Designed effective trade show booth strategy. 

-Increased activity of marketing programs by focusing on marketing-to-sales differentials in underachieving markets.

US Marketing Manager

-Managed accounts in El Paso and San Antonio, TX. 

-Hit above quota 3 of 4 quarters.

-Held quarterly business development meetings with hospital executive teams to review marketing strategies. 

-Developed sales and clinical training documents.

-Provided clinical support for the state of Texas as well as other US accounts.   

-Trained surgeons and staff on the Renaissance Robotic Guidance System and complementary products in order to provide a more accurate, reproducible surgery as well as a safer surgical environment for patients, surgeons and OR staff. 

-Consulted surgeons prior to surgery on surgical planning and execution of spinal surgery.

-Provided clinical support and training in minimally invasive and percutaneous surgical approaches. 

-Collaborated with US sales team in creative manner to improve on existing programs and sell active Renaissance surgeons on the concept of developing procedure and advanced training programs.

-Collaborated with hospitals on strategic marketing in order to grow robotic programs.

-Cultivated surgeon's expertise on software based pre-operative clinical planning as well as execution of minimally invasive robotic spine surgery.

My story might be a shock but my mission is simple: I want to change how medtech companies sell and market to physicians by using social media in a powerful new way.

Here's my story:

Growing up in the US/Mexico border town of El Paso, Texas I am a first generation American. 

The idea of discipline, honor, and hard work were engrained in me by my parents.

I went to medical school on an academic scholarship and dropped out in 2012 to pursue a career in technology.

I found my way into an exciting surgical robotics company called Mazor Robotics, the first robotic spine company. 

I started off "carrying the bag" as a clinical sales rep before quickly getting promoted to US Marketing Manager for my ability to do great patient marketing campaigns and market the technology.

The past decade has been spent at various high-tech startups driving growth and technology adoption through growth marketing and category design. 

This includes two publicly traded surgical robotic companies through their IPOs as well as co-founding a consumer product for men’s fashion.  

In 2022 I launched my own venture, Khateeb & Co, with a mission to  help medical sales people drive technology adoption using social media. 

I also launched a media company called "The State of MedTech" which helps physicians and industry professionals learn more about the latest trends in medicine through a podcast, webinar, blog, and live show. The majority of the episodes offer CME credits via a physician's reflection. 

My areas of focus are category design, driving adoption of new technologies, and developing strategies to channel attention towards generating demand.

In my spare time, I love teaching and mentoring young professionals. Im an avid reader and also paid public speaker.
