I’ve been on LinkedIn for 3 years.
 
If I was on month 1, here’s 5 thing’s I’d prioritise:

1️⃣ Connecting with big + small creators

- Big creators keep you inspired, smaller ones keep it relatable

2️⃣ Comments, comments, comments

- Get’s you way more involved than posting once a day. And make them good. Include insights / ask questions (on yours and others posts)

3️⃣ Not deleting lower performing posts 

- This is the gateway into tying those numbers to your self worth, so just don’t start it. I’s not that deep, use them to learn

4️⃣ Experimenting with content and structures 

- Different things work for different people. Don’t expect yourself to get it spot on the very first time. See what feels right, comes naturally and works well

5️⃣ Consistency. (Ofc)

- Don’t throw yourself off trying to go from 0-7 posts a week. 3 good ones are enough to get you into routine

Hot take : betting on yourself is the easier part. 

This is the hard bit:

Betting on yourself, when other’s don’t. 

Not even because of lack of belief. 
Or because they think it’s wrong. 
But because their “success” is different. 

So they start asking “when you buying a house”
Or mentioning job advertisements they’ve seen 
And reassuring you that a 9–5 job isn’t that bad.

The challenge isn’t just chasing your dream.
It’s ignoring the pressure to adopt *theirs.*

I don’t want a house yet
I’m not chasing a salary 
I don’t care about title

What does matter to me:

- Being able to travel when I want
- Being in control of my own life
- Work that actually excites me
- More freedom than money

This is disgustingly cliche, 

but we get 1 life. 

I refuse to spend it chasing someone else’s dream. 

And so should you.

Whether that’s a 9-5
Or self employment
Or a job in a cafe 
Or walking dogs

What’s yours?

Last week I cancelled my business
I was about to apply for a 9-5
Until I saw this:

Context:

- Spent 2 years growing a business
- Decided it wasn’t what I wanted
- Stopped it.

(I’m still a personal trainer)

“Maybe a normal job would be easier”
“I’m tired of the effort : results ratio”
“Maybe I’m just not cut out for this”

Logged onto job searching websites
Scrolling through job descriptions 
Saw this:

Me:

- Waking up @7am
- Sat in traffic for an hour
- Spend 8 hours in an office
- Okay money but no freedom
- Pressure to perform with fixed pay
- Spend another hour in traffic (for free)
- Have a rubbish session in a packed gym
- Then walking my dog out alone, in the dark
- Make food, shower, eat, bed, repeat+repeat

And somewhere in that, 
dreams and goals of what I *actually* want, 
get forgotten. 

Then I’ll wake up at 50 and realise I wasted it.

Most people don’t choose their life, 
they slip into it.

And I don’t want to be one of them. 

Whatever you’re doing, 
make sure you’re choosing it. 

Life is ours to build, 
sometimes I think we forget that.

I’ve grown an audience of 35k by posting fitness content, but I’m about to stop. Quick recap:

Started posting here about fitness in 2024
Became an in person PT + online coach
Gained a following of 30k on LinkedIn
Made and released my own fitness guides 

But now:

I’ve realised I don’t love being an online coach.
For different reasons. 
So, I’m stopping. 

If there’s one thing about me, I’m a quitter. 

I’m not wasting my time doing something I don’t want to do, when I have the privilege to change it.

I liked the coaching,
I enjoyed creating my products,
but I’ve LOVED writing on LinkedIn.

So why not try build something from that… 👀

I don’t really know what I’m doing
I don’t know how I’m gonna do it
I don’t know if I’ll make it work 
I don’t know if i’ll always love it

But I do know trying is better than doing another 12 months of something, while wondering about something else

Here’s some reminders:

💭 You don’t have to stay in something because you started it

💭 Hindsight doesn’t exist so it might not be how you imagined and that’s life

💭 Life is short enough and long enough to try different things, fail, change your mind, experiment etc.

P.s - I’m excited

I’ve been more productive the past 3 days than the past 3 months. 

Here’s what’s been happening:

- I’ll block out a day free of in person clients
- I’ll feel inspired by having loads of time
- I’ll watch some motivational videos
- I’ll get ready to transform my life
- I’ll realise I can’t do it in 1 day
- I’ll tell myself I’m a failure
- And do nothing at all

Lol 

Then I’ll tell myself I’ll do it next time 
And the exact same thing happens.

But this week a friend said
“set some smaller goals” 
so I did.
And it worked. 

The goals went from:

“grow a business where I can travel”
“write 2 weeks worth of content”
“plan out the next 57 steps”

to:

“change my LinkedIn banner”
“write my next 3 posts”
“do 1 hour of research”

and, I did them.

Sometimes the smallest steps are the ones that move the needle.  

So if you’re struggling to get to your big goals, 
maybe focus on the tiny ones

Direction > speed

“LinkedIn makes me feel bad about myself”
It used to do that to me, now I love it. 
Do this:

Get in control of what you see. 

Every morning, I log on and read from:

Matt Barker - making copywriting simple
Lara Acosta - mastering modern LinkedIn
Elizabeth Kershaw - daily dose of positivity 
Niall Cleaver - building something in public
Maya Raichoora - daily insights on mindset 
Chloe Waterhouse ⚡️ - a passion led career
Shoaib Ahmed - building a life on your terms 
Hannah del Herrera - chasing your own dream
Daniel Jay Lyle - entrepreurship whilst travelling
Simmy Dhillon - what it takes to build a business
Nia Patel - relatable insights of a 20 something y/o

And many more. 

Honestly, LinkedIn rarely makes me feel worse after I go on it than before. 

Every morning I scroll and : 

- see the life I want is possible
- read about similar struggles
- feel inspired to keep working
- shrug off doubts it wont work

Because of my feed.

Because I’m intentional with what I see. 

Just like Instagram and TikTok. 

If it’s making you feel down, not good enough, under pressure, change it.  

So you’re not just seeing endless posts of 7-figure businesses with 0 context and 0 relatability 

P.s - who makes your scroll a good one? I wanna know.

Habits control your life. 
Here’s 20 I’m intentional with to improve mine:

(Productivity, health, happiness)

1. Walk outside every day 
2. Drink de caff tea after 3pm
3. Make my bed every morning 
4. Have notifications turned off
5. Dark chocolate most days (yum)
6. Choose my outfit the night before
7. Do a daily wordle + mini crossword 
8. Read non-fiction every single night
9. Set screen time limits on my phone
10. Listen to as much podcasts as music 
11. Write a “must do, should do, could do” list
12. Go to bed at the same time most nights
13. Always have a glass of water close by
14. Drink water as soon as I wake up
15. Light candles when I’m working 
16. Have a simple skin care routine 
17. Say hi to people when running 
18. Speak to people in the gym 
19. Keep fruit easily accessible 
20. Eat a balanced diet

Not huge. Not crazy.

But compounded, powerful.

This is my biggest LinkedIn goal right now:

(I’ve avoided it for 2 years) 

To fail more. 

My biggest focus right now is simple:

To learn LinkedIn. 

- The hooks
- The growth
- The content
- The structures
- Video, text, pics
- The communities
- All of it

And the fastest way to learn, is to do. 
So that’s the plan. 

Not everything works well on LinkedIn.
Somethings work amazing 
Some are alright
Some just don’t

And the fastest, most accurate, and immersive way of learning those, is get first hand experience. 

Lose the ego and:
Test, analyse, experiment, learn, adapt (repeat)

If you want to learn something, anything : go fail. 

It’s proof that you’re progressing.  

P.s - if you don’t see me on the feed after a post gets 12 likes, mind your business.

This is the harshest but realest advice my self employed Dad ever gave me:

“Get on with it then”

Cue the pivot phase. 

I’m a yapper. 
I’m a planner. 
I’m a goal setter.
I’m an optimiser. 
I’m a vision-boarder.
I’m a to - do list writer. 

But i’m self aware enough to know I’m not always a do-er. 

And when you’re trying to build your own life, and career, 

that’s a problem. 

Because lists, goals, vision boards are 100% pointless, without action.

Actually they become unproductive. 

If you’re the same, here’s some tough love:

“Do” more than you “plan”
Focus on action, not perfection.
Stop tweaking the strategy, test it.
Say what you’ve done, not what you’ll do.

Messy action will always always beat a perfected plan.

Please tell me some of you are like this?

This 1 thing has been a daily non-negotiable for me for 10 years.

Exercise. 

10 years ago I was studying my A-LEVELS
Used the gym as a daily non-negotiable relief

Never turned back 

- Lift weights
- Go for a run
- Do a circuit
- A badminton match
- Bodyweight exercises
- Even some handstands
- On the worst days, a stretch

Something. Anything. Every day.

In 2020 it was a break from text books. 
Then over the past 10 years, it’s become:

- a hobby I love
- a genuine passion
- my mood regulator
- a huge part of my routine
- 1-2 hours of time to be alone
- something that gives me energy
- peace away from everyday stress

And I don’t think that will ever stop.

Believe it or not I actual LOVE training. 
It’s not a chore, it’s fun. 

And it improves the rest of the day too. 

Whether I’m researching, got my head in a laptop all day, a day full of in-person clients, or a day off to myself, it’s always better with movement

I recommend it.

Ps. - who’s tried padel?! That’s next on my list.

I’ve just started learning LinkedIn like a skill. 
This 1 trait will be my biggest advantage for growth.
(it’d be yours too):

Dropping my ego. 

(it’s like a shortcut)

It’ll let me/us:

1. Learn and fail faster
2. Detach from the data
3. Ask and accept advice 
4. Trial different content styles 
5. Open up to learning new things
6. Study creators without comparison
7. Write with less pressure of perfection

People think consistency is their biggest problem.
Or knowledge,
Or strategy.

Wrong

It’s ego.

Last time I properly left my ego, 

I conquered my fear of the gym,
found my strongest hobby,
built an online space,
+turned it into a job
(self employed) 

I’m excited to see what happens this time.

You’re great. 
But you’re not important enough to let pride in the way of your progress, let’s go.

When was the last time you truly dropped yours?

Do you know what’s underrated?

Disappointing people. 

I’ve already done it more than I expected. 

Rejected university to re-take my A-LEVELS.
> Teachers were gobsmacked

Dropped out of university to change degrees
> Family was disappointed

Stopped looking for grad jobs with a 1st class degree
> Got told I’d just wasted 3 years

I switched a flash looking marketing job in the City

To offering free tasters in the gym in a tracksuit. 

Now I’m building my own path on LinkedIn.

Your life is YOURS. 
You’re the only one living it.
Not your family. 
Not your friends.
Not your colleges. 
You. 

So you’re the one that has to be okay with your decisions. 

If I followed what made other people happy, I’d probably be working for a good company, with a good title, and a good wage, with 0 life, 0 ambition, and 0 self belief. 

P.s - if you need some support - please post about your story on here. It’s genuinely more supportive than real life for myself and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

This is what really causes burn out on LinkedIn:

(it’s not consistency). 

Writing for validation, not creation. 

People tie their self worth to the numbers,
the likes, comments, shares. Just numbers 

I used to do it. 

1 bad post - I’d delete it 
2 bad posts - I’d question myself 
3 bad posts - I’d stop posting for ages 

It’s not the work that burns people out. 
It’s the expectations around it. 

Attaching pressure to every post is joyless.
Trying to win every single day is a losing game.
Taking engagement personally is draining.

I learnt by doing it. 

LinkedIn can be a long, slow game.
If you wanna stay in it, focus on:

1️⃣ Detaching your identity and performance
- A post is just a post. That’s it

2️⃣ Putting curiosity before pressure
- Swap “this better work” for “I wonder if this will work”

3️⃣ Focus on documenting, not performing
- Chasing the algorithm is exhaustinggg

Do that and I bet you last longer on here. 

Perform better.

And enjoy it more too.

Probably shouldn’t be bragging about this on LinkedIn but I’m a professional quitter. 

At 16 I quit health and social 
At 18 I quit the opportunity to study @ uni

(I chose to resit my A-LEVELS)
(And got onto my dream course)

At 21 I quit that same course 10 weeks in 
(then re-studied marketing)
At 22 I quit trying to get a graduate job
At 25 I quit a new job 6 weeks in 

And 3 days ago I quit my online PT coaching business. 

Not the way 16 year old me thought it would go but maybe that’s a good thing. 

Sidenote - there is a lot of other things I’ve stuck to. 

Quitters get stick for quitting. 
Because people think you quit because it’s hard. 
Wrong. 

I’d say there’s 3 main reasons for mine:

1. It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be 
2. I’d outgrown it and needed something new
3. I changed my mind on what I wanted 

And I refuse to stay doing something:

1. to prove I can do
2. because quitting looks bad 
3. because it feels safter than change

And you should to. 

You can still be determined, ambitious, tenacious, *and* a quitter
