Most people think 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 the problem.

In my opinion: a 50-year mortgage isn’t good or bad.
It just exposes how financially unprepared most of you are.

Yes, logically, there are real benefits:

→ Lower monthly payments.
→ More cash flow month-to-month.
→ Easier approval for first-time buyers.

But there's no such thing as a free lunch:

→ You build equity painfully slow.
→ You pay interest for 20 extra years.
→ Total interest could potentially double.

As an Advisor and Real Estate investor myself, the mortgage isn’t the issue.

Financial illiteracy is.

Because if you're financially literate can use a 50-year mortgage to:

→ Free up cash flow.
→ Invest the difference.
→ Build wealth faster than they pay interest.

But if you've never made good money decisions:

I'm willing to bet you'll still buy a home you can’t afford.

So a 50-year mortgage alone isn’t dangerous.
Using it blindly is.

In the right hands, it’s leverage.

As of today, I have $10,748 in credit card debt.

I could pay it off, but I choose not to. Here’s why:

Because not all debt is bad.

Most people hear “credit card debt” and immediately assume irresponsibility.
But here’s what they miss:

→ That balance is on a 0% APR promo
→ The money I could’ve used to pay it off?
It’s working harder elsewhere

→ Being deployed into cash-flowing investments
→ Earning more than the interest I’m being charged (which right now... is zero)

This is what most people never get taught:

Bad debt drains you.
Credit cards at 22%, high-interest loans, buy-now-pay-later traps.

Good debt buys you time, leverage, and flexibility.
Used correctly, it accelerates wealth.

I’m not saying go rack up cards.
I’m saying—understand the strategy.

Paying off everything ASAP might feel good emotionally...
But it’s not always the smartest move financially.

The goal isn't to avoid debt at all costs.

Just because I’m an advisor doesn’t mean I pinch pennies.

Here are 4 unusual things I happily pay a premium for:

The older I get, the more I realize something my 21-year-old self never understood:

Money is a tool. 
I used to look at it like a trophy. 

The more commas I have, the cooler I am.

But now I use it intentionally to buy back the two things that actually matter to me: time and mental peace.

1. Credit Cards

Not just for the points — for the peace they buy me.

→ Lounge access during long travel days.
→ Concierge services that save me hours.
→ TSA Pre and Global entry to skip long lines.
→ Travel protections I use more often than I’d like.

2. Watches

Yes, for the hype — but also because they retain value.
The kind you enjoy daily, that hold appreciation, and eventually get passed down.

It’s one of the rare “luxuries” that doesn’t punish you for liking nice things.

But also tells people what your time is worth.

3. Personal Development

Coaches, courses, mentors, masterminds.
I’ll invest in all of it.

One lesson can save me years.
One perspective can add six figures.
One conversation can change how I operate.

I’m buying the blueprint from someone who's already living my life.

4. Convenience

Fast passes, upgrades, same-day delivery, detailing — all of it.

Because saving $18 while losing an hour of sanity is the worst trade you can make.

Convenience isn’t laziness.
It’s clarity: spend where it expands you.

Most people try to save their way into peace.
Believe me, my parents did.

But you'll come to a point where:

Spending intentionally creates more time, more serenity, and more energy for the things that actually matter.

I house-hacked my primary residence.

Here’s how it ruined my life.

I bought into the dream:
Real estate would be my golden ticket.

I wanted to:

• Diversify my investments.
• Build long-term wealth.
• Borrow against it.
• Generate passive income.
• Leverage it to grow my portfolio.

But the shiny object syndrome got me.

Here’s the reality no one tells you:

Real estate isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. It’s WORK.

• Ensuring you’ve got the right insurance to protect your investment.
• Setting up the right systems for smooth operations.
• Coordinating financing that’s anything but simple.
• Finding tenants who don’t destroy the place.
• Dealing with constant wear and tear.

I underestimated all of it.
I thought it would be easy. I was wrong.

Don’t let the “passive income” buzzwords fool you.
There’s nothing passive about the grind that comes with real estate.

I learned the hard way that you cannot skip preparation:

• Have a plan that’s airtight.
• Build a safety net that can handle surprises.
• Think two steps ahead, not just about your goals, but about the risks.

But here’s what I’ve come to understand:

We all make mistakes.

It’s so easy to feel like you’ve failed when things go wrong.
I’ve been there, staring at the mess I made, wondering how I’d fix it.

The truth is: even the biggest mistakes can be untangled.

This experience didn’t break me. 
It pushed me to grow, to rethink, and to do better.
I’m not perfect, but I’m learning, and I’m moving forward.

If you feel like you’ve made a mistake you can’t come back from—know this:
You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last. You’re not alone.

What matters isn’t the mistake.
It’s how you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and take that next step.

And I know you can.

I met with a 55-year-old couple last week.

They’ve paid off their home and rentals, but have $0 outside of real estate.

And this is exactly why I don’t like real estate.

On the surface, they looked “set.”

→ No mortgage.
→ No rental mortgage.
→ Two properties fully paid off.

But when we talked about retirement, everything changed.

They had no liquidity.

→ $28,000 in Bank of America Savings.
→ $3,600/m in rental income.
→ $17,000 in Crypto.

They went all-in on real estate thinking it was their ticket to freedom.

But even with no debt you still need actual cash flow to retire.

And here’s the part most people never think about:

→ You can’t sell a bedroom to buy groceries.
→ You can’t pay medical bills with home equity.
→ You can’t fund 25 years of retirement with “a house that's paid off.”

Real estate felt safe.
It felt familiar.
It felt like the “smart and traditional” path that everyone online talks about.

But it wasn’t a plan.
It was a bet.

And like most people, they didn’t ask for help until it was almost too late.

Not because they didn’t care but because real estate gives you the illusion of security.

They thought owning two properties meant they’d be fine.
But here’s the truth they learned the hard way:

Real estate may build wealth...
but it doesn’t guarantee retirement.

Not without liquidity.
Not without diversification.
Not without a plan that actually produces income you can live on.

So if you’re banking your entire future on “just owning rentals,” ask yourself:

Will those walls and windows really pay your bills when the paychecks stop?

You closed another Enterprise deal that’s gonna pay you $80,000.

But you have no idea how to put it to work.

This is the trap almost every Tech Sales pro falls into.

You grind for weeks...
Push procurement...
Send signature reminders...

And then that commission finally hits.

$48k, $63k, $85k...

For a weekend, you feel unstoppable.
And you think you do all the right things:

→ Pay off the credit cards.
→ Put a chunk towards the mortgage.
→ Budget some for a nice vacation with the spouse.
→ And save the rest because you don't know when the next one's coming.

But now, you're down to $0 and not moving forward financially.

→ Still spending more than you're making.
→ More equity but can't use it for anything.
→ Retirement contributions are stopped for higher base pay.
→ And your CPA forgot to tell you about the tax ramifications.

Here’s the truth:

Making money and multiplying money are two different games.

Without a system:

• Money comes in fast
• Money leaves even faster
• Stress fills the gap

1) You can consolidate.
Just because you got every card for it's promo bonus but forgot to pay it off, doesn't mean you should just keep it.

A single balance transfer to a 0% APR card stops the bleeding immediately.

2) Negotiate like Chris Voss.
Lenders want their money back.
If you’ve been paying on time, they’ll often extend your 0% APR window.

I’ve literally watched someone get an extra year from one phone call.

3) Choose your battle
You can’t keep the same lifestyle and expect your debt to magically disappear.
At some point, you gotta choose:
Comfort today, or freedom tomorrow.

4) Stick with it
This is the part people hate.
Because it’s boring.

Automate payments, throw any extra cash at principal, and just stay consistent.

Could you use more income? Yes.
But that's just a bandaid on a wound that needs stiches.

Bottom line is:
You need more knowledge.

Because the real difference between someone drowning in debt
and someone debt-free?

It’s not luck.
It’s not income.

It’s education.

Master this, and consider yourself graduated :)

Don't think "over night".

Instead, think "over time".

Social media sells you a lie:
→ Flip houses and retire next year.
→ Invest in crypto and quadruple your money.
→ Start a side hustle and become a millionaire.

It’s very intoxicating.

But here’s the truth:

It’s not glamorous.
But it’s sustainable.

Ask yourself:

Would you rather:

Because one path leads to anxiety.
The other leads to freedom.

The shortcut is a trap.
The real wealth is in the journey.

→ Talk to the breeder/adoption agency to understand any history that I need to know. 
 
2. Emergency Fund 
→ Have a separate E-fund for Zuko that is used to pay for his expenses. 
 
3. Budget 
→ $200/month goes towards goes toward Zuko for any of his daily needs. 
 
4. Subscriptions 
→ His meds, grooming appts, vet visits etc. are all subscription-based so I can leverage them whenever instead of a one-time big payment. 
 
You may think I'm crazy for spending that much on a dog, 
But he's a priority I'm willing to spend on. 
 
Here's your takeaway: 
Plan for your priorities, let the rest take a backseat. 
 
Your priorities might be different than Zuko, 
But a plan will always help keep that priority important.

I've never heard anyone say...

"I love the work-life balance at Amazon." 
 
This was the dream presented to me: 
 
• By every university 
• By my parents 
• By society 
 
 They told me to: 
 
• Graduate in Chemical Engineering 
• Go to Medical School 
• Make $$$ 
 
But what they didn't tell me was: 
 
• Work your a$$ off for 20+ years 
• Take on $100,000+ of debt 
• Mental health destroyed 
 
I couldn't do it anymore. 
I just wanted something of my own. 
 
It led me to what I call: Money Media 
 
• Changed fields from Engineering ▶️ Finance 
• Started writing on Social Media platforms 
• Create life-altering financial plans 
• Get paid while living my dream 
 
What you need to realize is, 
Everyone has a unique skill that they can teach, 
 
You just need to discover it. 
 
So take a chance on yourself, 
It'll pay dividends for the rest of your life. 
 
Take this as a sign to take action on what you've been thinking about for so long. 
 
2025 is your year! Make it happen.

The only affirmation that helps me push through the tough times.

Most people avoid that truth.
Because it forces you to zoom out... and confront the life you're actually living.

For years, I let my environment shape my mindset.
I let circumstances dictate how far I believed I could go.

I didn’t realize the cage wasn’t around me— it was in me.

Then life hit me with what I now call "my Inner Switch".

An Inner Switch is that moment when:

• You fail at something you thought you were great at
• Someone you trust forces you to rethink your path
• You catch yourself living a life you never consciously chose

And suddenly you realize—
your outer world only changes when your inner world does.

Mindset isn’t motivation.
It’s not clichés.
It’s not the 5am alarms or the inspirational wallpaper on your phone.

It’s the decision to stop living on autopilot.
It’s the intention to build, not just react.
It’s holding the bigger picture when life tries to shrink you.

As Naval Ravikant said:
“The world just reflects your own feelings back at you. Reality is neutral.”

If you see limits, you live within them.
If you see possibility, life expands around you.

So be grateful— not just for what you have,
but for the chance to shape who you’re becoming.

Say the thing you’ve been avoiding.
Start the project you’ve been delaying.

Move toward the person you actually want to be, not the version you’ve settled for.

Your Inner Switch isn’t a feeling. It’s a call to action.

Don’t wait for life to force it.

Flip it yourself—
and watch everything around you rise to meet it.

Last Wednesday, I knocked on 11 doors and invited 11 strangers to dinner. But the story doesn’t start there. 

In October, I was on a flight from Houston to Austin. 

When I’m on a flight, I like to honor the miracle of air travel by becoming the least approachable human I can be. Hood up, laptop out, headphones over the ears. I’m Simon Cowell with a toothache, Gordon Ramsay judging a toddler bake-off. I’m the Grinch — stuck in economy. 

But on this particular flight, I was sabotaged. 

Her name was Kay, and she was in her 70s. 

Kay caught me with my headphones down and started chatting me up. 

After a few minutes of small talk, Kay looked at me:

“This is nice,” she said. “No one talks on airplanes anymore.”

“Tell me about it,” I beamed. “A travesty.”

Kay went on to tell me how she puts on social events for her friends back home in New Mexico. She talked about how community is dying. How we're all in our phones to stay in touch, forgetting that those phones just keep us out of touch.

Six months before this flight, I had been invited to a dinner in Toronto by Tony Albrecht. 

Tony got some people from LinkedIn together and treated us all to a family-style dinner. 

I told Kay about this — and about how cool it was — and she asked me:

“Do you have anyone you could do that with?”

“Well,” I said. “I have 11 neighbors on my apartment floor, but I never see any of them. I guess I could put together a dinner and knock on their doors.”

So Kay made me promise that I would. She even gave me her personal card — the one she started carrying after she retired and no longer needed a business card — so I could tell her when I did it.

And that’s how, last night, I hosted a dinner with nine new friends. 

Turns out, knocking on doors gives you what tapping on screens promises you.

Not walls of text — never walls of text. But use two sentences. Even three.

My profile appeared 87,495 times across LinkedIn from Nov. 11-18. 41,018 of those appearances were from comments.

Every week, someone sends me a DM saying:

"How do I get more engagement on my posts?"

And I respond saying:

"How often do you comment? DM? Engage with other people?"

And then, 9 times out of 10, they don't respond.

The irony.

Goodness, gracious.

The irony.

Everyone laughs at Gen Z/Gen Alpha for wanting to be influencers.

Do you realize how much of a cheat code having an audience is?

I made my first post on LinkedIn in October 2022.

Since then, I have:

• Made more than $500,000 from writing.
• Created 5 different income streams.
• Been hired to write books. 
• Charged $400/hour for consulting calls.
• Worked with founders, CEOs, and celebrities.

And most importantly, I have built a distribution network for my future work.

When you build distribution, you create optionality and flexibility for yourself.

If every single one of my clients fired me tomorrow, I'd create a new offer and push it on all 15,259 of you so fast you'd think I was Pablo Escobar at a Korn concert. 

I imagine in 2035, I'll be making money online in a way I never considered in 2025.

And that's a heck of a lot more valuable than learning about peas and some guy named Gregor.

Every year, I work from my dad's office over the holidays. It's a good reminder that I've had more advantages than 99% of freelance writers.

I've been writing professionally three years. I'm finally sort of comfortable claiming I've had a little bit of success — but if I want to claim success, I have to tell the truth about where it came from.

And the truth is, I have had every single advantage.

My dad was a freelance copywriter. It was the first job I knew you could do. Before I ever dreamed about playing shortstop for the Detroit Tigers, I saw myself alone in a quiet office, armed with a red pen and an AP Stylebook.

My parents were both entrepreneurs — my mom in real estate — so I grew up watching early mornings, stress, sacrifice. But because it was all I saw, I didn't realize it was remarkable. It just was. That's how everyone works, right?

As a kid, I wrote a lot. Since the guy who determined my bedtime was also a professional writer, I had access to high-quality feedback. I charge $900/month for that now, but he did it for free.

I'm good at writing. It's what I'm supposed to do with my life. But it certainly doesn't hurt that I got professional guidance before I ever put down a Junie B. Jones book for the last time.

I studied journalism, but took a job in finance. It hurt my heart to stop writing, but it helped my bank account.

Six years later, when I finally walked away to try freelancing, I had the thing most new writers never get: time. Runway. Margin for error.

I knew I could go a full calendar year without making any money and still be OK.

Most people trying to make it as a writer don't have this breathing room. Turns out, it's easier to score goals when you aren't white-knuckling the stick. Yeah, I was still tightrope walking, but my safety net was so close it was scraping the rubber off my soles.

For my first 20 gigs, my dad edited everything before I sent it. He introduced me to his contacts in the industry. 

The first time I charged more than $2,000 for a project came when my sister-in-law put in a good word for me at her company.

Yeah, I've worked hard. But I never had to work scared.

My family wanted to see me win, friends wanted to see me win, and strangers wanted to see me win. And instead of just golf-clapping from the sidelines, they each got in the game and dished me some assists.

So, yeah.

When you're comparing yourself to other people, remember that you're not seeing the invisible advantages baked into someone's default assumptions.

One morning, I quit my 9-5 job and said, “I’m a writer now.” 
 
Want to do something similar? Listen. 
 
Quitting my job to bet on myself is a decision I agonized over for years. 
 
But when it came down to it, the actions it took to create my reality took me less than 24 hours. 
 
-> Woke up  
-> Printed a 2-week notice 
-> Gave an 8:00 A.M. presentation 
-> Quit at 9:00 A.M. 
 
When you're "stuck" in the day-to-day grind, it's easy to get tunnel vision. And it’s hard to grasp the vastness of opportunity that simply being alive offers you. 
 
And because the years whip by at breakneck speed, it can feel impossible to find the time to break patterns. 
 
So instead of taking advantage of the limitless sandbox of the human experience, you blink and years have passed and you still haven’t progressed toward That Thing You Wanted To Do. 
 
But the life you live is simply a result of the actions you take. 
 
Most outcomes are determined by your input — not by random chance. You have control to change situations you don’t like. 
 
And look — these don’t have to be drastic things. They usually aren’t. I know plenty of people who love their patterns. Their jobs. Their relationships. 
 
But you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t have something they want to change. 
 
So whether that’s quit-your-job-and-move-4,000-miles-away drastic or man-I’m-sick-of-eating-the-same-thing-every-day mundaneness, the actions it takes to change your situation are often less daunting than your brain makes them seem. 
 
Remember: 

Who you are is who you choose to be.

If I were a financial advisor struggling to stand out on LinkedIn, here how I'd fix that in 7 steps:

1. Define my Ideal Client Profile.

When you try to speak to everyone, you end up speaking to no one. Your posts sound like every other advisor. And prospects scroll right past because nothing you're saying feels like it's for them specifically.

2. Redesign my profile.

Your banner, tagline, and featured section should all be designed to get your profile viewers to take the next step in your process.

If you haven't done this yet, do it immediately.

3. Never send out a firm-generated post again.

Sorry Hearsay, sorry FMG, sorry Buffer.

No one gets on LinkedIn to click a link to your Q4 market update.

(I know. I used to post this stuff.) 

4. Stop using ChatGPT to write my content.

You're using an amalgamation of everyone else's voice and wondering why you can't stand out.

I mean? 

5. Stop posting content rooted in zero personal experience.

"You're making $500K and you still feel broke."

Wow. Inventive. No one ever saw that one before. 

Prospects can tell when you're writing faux-pain point content. It all looks the same — generic content written in the second person that literally anyone else could have slapped together. 

You need to be telling stories from your experience that only you can tell. Yes, tweak some of the details, but write from the real conversations you have every day.

6. Learn how to write hooks.

Learn how to write hooks.

7. Lean into controversy.

What are your contrarian opinions?
What do you hate about the industry?
When did you go against the grain with client advice?

You can't hope to stand out when your content is written to blend in.

I have been paid $30,000 in a single day for a writing project, but nothing will ever beat closing my first client for $500.

It was October 2022, and I was living in Basecamp — a one-story, tarp-covered house on the bottom of a Kona coffee farm.

There were eight of us living in the house. At 28 years old, I was the Old Man By the Mango Tree, nearly a decade older than all my roommates. 

Often, I would wake up at 4:00 AM to start my day, fist-bumping a couple of roommates I passed in the hallway on their way to go to bed for the night. 

Between the eight of us, the farm provided two vehicles. I figured if I was going to be living in Hawaii, I didn't want my adventures to be constrained based on vehicle availability, so I found a guy with a car rental business.

I also figured if I was going to wear Hawaiian shirts and sport a mustache, I owed it to Tom Selleck to drive something better than a Hyundai Sonata, so I signed up for a long-term rental on a silver Dodge Challenger.

I met the owner of the rental business in the parking lot of a Shell station in Kealakekua, Hawaii.

When he handed me the keys, I pounced:

"Hey man. I respect what you're doing with your own business. I'm actually self-employed, too. I'm a copywriter — I write websites and things like that. I noticed your website still needs to be written. Would you be down with me sending you a proposal for what I would charge to write it?"

His website existed, but it was full of Lorem Ipsum placeholders. He agreed to take a look at my proposal, so I cruised back to the shack and fired it off.

A day later, my phone rang.

"Hey Adam. Let's do it."

I was breathing like I had just done a Polar Plunge into the Pacific, but I managed to choke out:

"Sounds good. I'll send you the invoice."

Then, I hung up, sprinted out to the living room, and high-fived every 19-year-old roommate I could find.

Since then, the numbers have gotten bigger and the projects more exciting, but I have never felt the same high as that first client — and I don't ever expect to again.

Not everything you post on LinkedIn has to be shoehorned into a fake lesson about what you learned. 

You can just tell good stories because it's fun to tell good stories.

And as a bonus, people won't want to vomit you when they read your content.

I've written 4,100+ hooks. One mistake kills engagement more than any other: 

Assuming your audience knows who you are. 

Most creators have a "World Revolves Around Me" mindset.

You think people are paying attention. You think people have been following along. You think people have been reading your stuff, connecting the dots, building a mental map of your expertise, your offer, your point of view.

They haven't.

Most people skim. 
They catch a post here and there. 
They don't remember what you wrote yesterday.

So every single post, you should be starting from scratch.

When you write a hook that skips the authority, skips the context, skips the problem-naming — because you assume your audience already knows — it has zero chance at getting inbound leads.

Yeah, it's going to get comments from the same 15 people who show up every day...

But they were going to be there regardless. It doesn't mean the content was actually good — it just means you successfully clicked "post."

It's an inconvenient truth for 99% of creators, but you actually have to be good at copywriting if you want inbound leads.

You have to understand:

• Audience awareness levels
• Problem awareness levels
• Solution awareness levels 

This is why persuasive writing was destined to become a high-income skillset since Johannes Gutenberg started monkeying with his tiles in the 1440s. 

And this is why most people are deluding themselves into thinking ChatGPT can "write" content well enough to get inbound leads.

If you understand this stuff? 

Sure.

If not? 

You're going to keep showing up for another year wondering why no one is DMing you "financial freedom."
