It’s not about positive thinking or avoiding the news. It’s about who you process it with.

Here’s what actually happens when you text your friend “the news is breaking my brain” instead of spiraling alone:
Your nervous system gets the memo that you’re safe. 
Science calls this co-regulation—it’s why venting to your person feels so different than stewing in your own head.

You realize you’re not the only one who’s overwhelmed. 

There’s genuine relief in discovering everyone else is also refreshing their phone too many times a day.

You might actually laugh. And laughter during chaos isn’t avoidance—it’s how we stay human.

Connection doesn’t eliminate hard emotions. It helps us carry them without breaking under the weight.

Your brain needs other brains right now. Call your person. Say it out loud. Stop carrying it solo.
Who are you reaching out to today?

I just told 2 million NewsNation viewers the truth about staying sane during heavy news cycles and it has nothing to do with limiting screen time.

The research is clear: constant news consumption activates the same stress pathways as direct threats, flooding our system with cortisol.

So what actually works? 
Movement. 
Studies show exercise is as effective as SSRIs for managing anxiety and depression. 

But here’s where it gets interesting: exercising with others doubles the mental health benefits.
