This mistake I made last year cost me about £30k and put me in full-blown panic mode for three months.

Look around social media and you'll see it, 2025 was certainly 'a year' for a lot of people.

Whilst everyone's coming in jolly like the Ghost Of Christmas Present with big 2026 energy...

I'll play the Ghost Of Christmas Future, and save you from the mistake I made.

There’s a moment in entrepreneurship where you realise:
 
There's the business you have.
And there's the business you want.

For the first half of 2025 I'd allowed myself to be commoditised into being... 'a camera guy'.

That one’s on me.
 
When you get in with Founders by doing their founder-led video content strategy, they love the work, and then ask for:

Events, testimonials, demos, team day outs, training etc.

That's not where my value is.

So, I started saying no.

Big mistake.

Because I forgot the tiny, minuscule issue that once you start saying no to work, you stop getting paid.
 
When you stop getting paid, you go into fight or flight mode.

And when you go into fight or flight mode, you stop thinking clearly, and that’s detrimental to any business.

You can't just change your clients overnight.
You can't just change the work you do overnight.
You can't just fix your positioning in overnight.

You need to steadily phase these things over time.

I've spoken to a couple of people already this year who're ready to burn it all down.

They want an entirely different client, or to do entirely different work - and that's all they're going to focus on.

Then I jump in with a, “whoah, hold up and take a pause.”

You can build the business you want.  
You can work with the clients you want.  
You can do the work that lights you up.

But it's a transition, not an immediate switch.

Keep the money coming in while you deliberately phase toward the work you actually want to be known for.

Same principle as going self-employed in the first place.

You waited, you worked, and you let a level of security hit.

Same principle applies here 🤝

Your first 10 videos on LinkedIn will probably suck.
But that's part of the process.

Take it from somebody who has filmed 100's.

Some of the biggest names kicked off with grainy, 320 pixel looking camera and posted anyway.

In 2026, please don't let waiting for that fancy camera and best lighting possible hold you back from giving video a go.

Everybody started somewhere, as 9 year old me shows off in this video...

I've filmed myself for 100's of videos - and 50% of the time I still struggle like I've never been in front of the lens before.

Getting on camera is a pretty brutal experience.

You started your business to solve a problem, help people out, make you money and build something real.

Not stare down a tiny black dot and post it on LinkedIn.

And after all the technical bits:

What lights, what mics, how do you set it all up?

You have the prep bits:

What do you talk about? What's important?

You then have to sit down and hit record.

Sometimes you're in the zone, and other times you'd rather be doing anything else - even watch The Traitors.

the video here is 39 seconds of 'bloopers' I've taken from a recent filming sessions.

Maybe it's relatable?

Messing up words, forgetting what I'm meant to say, and you might even notice I get this aggressive blinking response that only comes out when I film myself.

So yeah, I understand how much of a pain it can be.

I only keep doing this because I’ve seen what happens if you push through it.  

The long-term upside is way bigger than the short-term awkwardness.

And if you’re starting out, here’s my boring but most effective advice: 

Get a 'buddy'.

You don't need to immediately go to a service provider.

But you also don't need to do it alone.

Chances are you have a friend, peer, partner or somebody in your network who wants to do video as well - or can be there to support you when filming.

Somebody to keep energy high, and give you a moral boost when you feel yourself starting to dip.

That person can be the difference on the day between you doing what you need, or 'trying again next week'.

Ask your network.
Find that friend.

And post those videos 🎥

How to Stay Consistent with Video Without Burning Out

If you’re relying on an AI clone to ‘do video’, you’re missing the entire point of video. 

Yes – video is a distribution channel. 
 
• It sells whilst you sleep 
• It explains your offer 
• It handles objections 
  
But that’s the surface value of it all. 
  
𝟭. 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘂𝗽 
  
Speaking from my own experience, as well as seeing it with all the people I've worked with.

When you sit down in front of a camera, you’re forced to get clear on what you do, and have the confidence to deliver it. 
  
There’s nowhere to hide. 
  
I’ve worked with founders who’ve been in business for a decade and can’t explain what they do in a single clean sentence… especially when a camera is pointing at them. 
  
Outsourcing it to an AI clone skips the most valuable part of the whole thing - the part where you actually develop clarity, confidence, and conviction. 
  
(The 3 C’s anyone who’s been on a call with me has heard on repeat lately) 
  
𝟮. 𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁. 
  
If AI you is as charismatic as Bond and articulate as Churchill - and you aren’t - that’s not clever marketing. 
  
That’s lying, 
  
Seth Goden made a handy distinction: 
  
You have fibs: stretching subjective truth. 
You have frauds: stretching objective truth. 
  
A fake version of you is the biggest fraud of all. 
  
So when someone watches your content for months, then meets you on a call or at an event and realises the “person” they connected with doesn’t actually exist? 
  
The trust is as good as gone.

And that’s what founder-led video actually is. 
  
Relationship building at scale. 
  
Video forces you to think more clearly, explain more precisely, and sell more honestly. 
  
Which is what actually leads to: 
  
• Speaking invitations 
• Higher confidence 
• Better sales calls 
• Podcast invites 
• Easier closes 
  
No AI clone gives you that. 
  
And sooner or later, every platform will label AI-generated content. 
  
When that happens, people will skip it the same way they already skip generic AI slop. 
  
People are tired of output for the sake of output. 
  
They’re starving for something real on the other side. 
  
That’s what founder-led video is meant to be.

So please be human, it matters now more than ever.
