FINALLY found some time to write a post for LI this week*… Here’s a small update on how our year has started…

1. In Amsterdam this week with one of the most exciting players in Optical Retail 🙏

2. Had a lot of RFP opportunities land so far this year, many of them unexpected. I’ve never had a problem pitching, I actually enjoy it… Never understood the anti-pitch policy many agencies have

3. Also had some really nice new client wins, including TDK, Asus and UCL… Very grateful for these amazing brands putting their trust in us

4. We’re learning to navigate a world where client decisions take longer and involve more stakeholders… This can be challenging, but it’s definitely not changing any time soon

5. More and more we’re productising our IP… Not to sell as it’s own product, but to help explain the value of our strategic thinking - this is definitely an area of the business I’m most excited about

6. Lot of travel to happen this year (all over Europe and Asia)… My view is that international business and expansion is crucial for UK agencies looking to grow. UK market alone isn’t strong enough right now to bank on for strong growth

7. Fascinating to hear the conversations in the agency world on AI influence… It seems to be having an HR impact already, especially in junior positions, but hasn’t transformed our world yet (A convo for another post)

I’m the Head of Content at Darkroom.

My job is helping the people inside the company share what they already know without turning it into performative content or forcing anyone into a creator box.

I’m building an internal thought-leadership motion across LinkedIn, X, Substack, and TikTok by putting structure around good thinking and making it easier to create content consistently.

Before this role, I spent a few years deep in LinkedIn, working closely with founders and operators, asking a lot of questions, and turning long conversations into clear, useful content.

What I noticed pretty quickly was that the people with the most insight are usually the least interested in posting. They don’t lack ideas. They lack time, systems, and a clean way to translate what’s already in their heads.

I come from an engineering background (master’s in engineering), which probably explains how I think about content.

At Darkroom, that shows up as helping leaders find their real point of view and designing content systems that work across platforms.

I’m especially interested in founder-led and expert-led content, and in building internal content engines that feel sustainable.

Personal Brand Manager.

I crossed 10,000 followers here a few days ago. I wasn’t overly excited when it happened, but I was proud, mostly because LinkedIn is the reason my life looks completely different today.

A few years ago, I was doing my master’s in engineering in Istanbul while trying to figure out how to move away from a traditional engineering career.

I started posting here with no real plan. I was a nobody in marketing, looking for free internships, saying yes to whatever opportunities came my way.

Some of those turned into remote roles.

And somehow, that path led me to where I am today, working at one of the most exciting companies in the world.

What I’m most proud of, though, isn’t the number but knowing that people, especially in my country, look to me for help with LinkedIn, careers, jobs, or building a digital identity.

I genuinely believe that your digital presence is one of the biggest assets you can build today, and being able to help others with that feels incredibly meaningful.

When I think about where I was in 2022 versus now, I just feel grateful.

For the people who gave me chances, and for everyone who’s found even a little value in what I share.

My career makes no sense on paper, and it took me 27 years to figure out what I 'like' doing.

I have a degree in engineering, but I do marketing, yet I’ve never paid for a marketing course.

Entered the content game in 2022, and my source of learning was being around people who were better than me, by working closely with founders, and by trying to figure out what drives revenue versus what just looks good online.

It hasn’t been a straight line at all.

Engineering made sense at one stage of my life, but my heart was never fully in it.

Marketing was a whole different story, though.

It felt natural. I enjoy it. I like seeing something out there that I worked on. It is my digital footprint that will live on forever.

That matters to me.

But I am obsessed with one thing, and that is how marketing helps drive revenue.

Even when we talk about brand, at some point, it has to connect back to growth. Otherwise, what are we doing?

Maybe the engineering background plays a bigger role than I thought.

What’s working? What’s not? Why?

And right now the pace is wild. Social moves fast, and there’s no breathing room.

It really is an adapt or die situation for marketers.

So yeah, I took a chance, and it ended up working out.

Since joining Darkroom, one thing I didn’t expect to enjoy this much is how often marketing talks to sales.

We’re in touch almost every single day.

Marketing only exists for one reason: revenue.

You can call it brand or storytelling, but at the end of the day, the job is to create enough attention and clarity that sales has an easier time closing.

Being this close to revenue conversations makes the work better and far more enjoyable.
