A bit about me: 

I grew up in Berlin, loving nature, and struggled with my mental health. 

A psychologist changed my life as I know it today.

I Lost myself in the teens because nature was not cool. 

After High School, I went to live in Australia for a year & rediscovered myself. Nature is awesome. 

Studied business to learn how to make companies a force for good, rather than what they are now. 

Lived abroad in 6 countries to understand us humans better & discover more wild places. 

Worked in E-Commerce, Mobility, Non-profit, hospitality, and tourism, to positively change those industries. 

Quarter life crisis: triggered by eco-anxiety

Created some side hustles to tip-toe into entrepreneurship. 

Learned what real crisis management is by becoming a leader of a team in a tourism company, while Covid broke out. 

Getting as many team members & local partners sanely through this crisis. 

Decided in 2022 to quit my job and go all in on Wildya. 

2023.

Realized that biodiversity heroes struggle to finance their projects, created Wild Busines Mates.

Tourism gone wrong.

New lodge blocking great migration route.

This footage shows staff members chasing away wildebeest after a new lodge is built right in the path of the great migration in Kenya. 


🤔 Why the outrage? 

The great migration of around 2,5M wildbeest, zebras & gazelles is one of the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles of our planet. Crucial for the local ecosystem & people. 

Extensive new infrastructure & jeeps are now threatening the natural movement of this migration. 

Here in the clip, the wildebeest can't pass their usual way. And now have to find a new path. 

All added up, this puts immense pressure on these animals & thereby risks the existence of the great migration. 


🚨 The culprit?

I did some digging & from what I could find in the news, it seems to be the Ritz Carlton Lodge in the Maasai Mara. Can't know for sure, since the people in the video don't mention the name. 

Unfortunately, these scenes are not unique. In just 10 years, the number of accommodations there almost doubled. 


💪 What can you do about it?

1) Don't stay or go
Stay in places that boost local nature, not destroy it. Especially worth double-checking when you plan to stay in the wilderness. 

2) Book with professionals 
When planning a trip into an unknown wilderness, consult with some wildlife experts. They ensure your trip doesn't come at the cost of wildlife. e.g. for Africa with Alice Péretié. 

3) Shift your mind 
Yes, you deserve that break! But your trip should not sacrifice the magic you came to see. Otherwise, you will be one of the last to experience it. How can you ensure your trip has a net positive impact on the place you are visiting? 


Tourism done wrong, nature is exploited until the last penny. 

Tourism done right, nature thrives & we get a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
