Most B2B companies have a recall problem, not a pipeline problem.

You know why word of mouth actually works?

Because when someone asks for a recommendation, the brand they remember is the brand they recommend.

Not the one with the most features. Not the one with the best pricing. The one that occupied a distinct space in their head.

Differentiation gets you there. So does distinction.

Mass advertising on repeat can work too, but that game belongs to category leaders with cash to burn.

B2B buyers only evaluate 5 vendors on average, according to our C-suite buyer research study. Most of these brands in this list are companies the buyer is already aware of.

The initial shortlist then gets narrowed down to 3 companies. 

This shortlisting battle is happening without any vendor involvement.

Once you make that shortlist, there's a 71% chance the buyer sticks with their preferred brand according to Trustradius research. The entire "evaluation process" often just validates a choice they've already made.

Brand marketing isn't a cost center - it's a revenue multiplier. When 78% of buyers choose from brands they already know, awareness directly equals pipeline.

Meanwhile, 68% of buyers say all vendors sound identical (Dentsu). And every $1 cut from brand investment costs $1.85 to rebuild (BCG).

Smart companies track brand perception religiously. They know which buying situations trigger their brand. They measure if their messaging actually changes perception.

79% of CFOs see no clear metrics connecting brand to revenue. This is because most companies are not even tracking changes in their brand awareness and preference. 

Don't be one of those companies. Run brand tracking surveys once a year, and know where your brand stands.
