I've been posting on LinkedIn since 2019 but I've never properly introduced myself.
 
I'm Ivy, a 44 y/o business and sales coach from Stockholm living in London.
 
Here's my story so far.
 
I’m half Swedish, half Pakistani. Too brown for Sweden, too white for Pakistan. I lived in both countries and learnt what it feels like to never fully belong and why proving my worth became the norm.
 
At 18 I left for Edinburgh to study Psychology. I didn’t realise it then, but that choice shaped everything. Not just because of the subject, but because Edinburgh’s food scene pulled me into my first hospitality business at 25.
 
Business teaches you plenty, mostly it shows you who’s actually in your corner. Building is lonely and my huge social circle contracted. I learnt that knowing people and trusting people are two very different things.
 
I watched neighbours open and close shop and refused to become one of them. I promised myself I’d never be pushed out and ten years in, I exited at my peak. I was proud of me 🤍
 
Here’s the part no one prepares you for. Starting again after success is brutal. Once you’ve had money, momentum and a team, you realise how spoilt you were. Everything I used to delegate landed back on my desk. It wasn’t easy, even if I made it look so.
 
And then there’s the regret I still think about.
 
I hid.
 
Press reached out, opportunities showed up, and I declined every one of them. “I don’t want to be famous,” I told myself.
 
The truth is I hadn’t built a personal brand, so when the business changed, my reputation disappeared with it. Knowing the impact I want to make now, I would have chosen differently.
 
My friends pushed me toward what I do today. Apparently I’d been doing it for years: helping creative friends make more money. When I started, I did the classic beginner move of pricing low with a £500 per month coaching package.
 
But I didn’t stay there long. Within six months I went from clients signing at £1500 to £7000 to £18000 to £24000. I made six figures in year one.
 
I remember calling my dad, his response - “Of course. I never doubted you.”  I noticed how at 37 I was still trying to prove myself. And so began my real unlearning which took time. 
 
Meanwhile, the business grew, the clients grew. I recall a brand designer who had been charging £1–£3K for ten years. She was busy but burning out. We rebuilt her model and within months she was closing £30K+ projects. She could breathe.
 
It still blows my mind how this work can shift someone’s entire life. Clients have booked out quarters, 4x their revenue, hit their first 6 and 7 figs.

Now I help creatives sell with clarity, raise their prices without fear and build a business they actually love.

Dont be a persona

I nudged Darren and said, ‘It’s a bot.’
He looked at me like I was being dramatic and 

shook his head. So he asked her directly:  “Are you a bot?”
 
“Yes,” she replied.
 
Or rather… it replied.
 
We were on speaker phone getting quotes for a home extension. I clocked it by the second sentence. Darren didn’t.
 
After the call finsihed, I asked how he felt.
 
Conned, trust was gone and it was an instant no.
 
What’s interesting is why I noticed and he didn’t.
 
For context: I train people in communication (sales is communication) I spend my life listening for what’s underneath the words and I analyse calls for a living. So it’s not a fair match. 
 
So here’s what I noticed. 

The voice itself was impressive. Warm. Natural. Calm.
 
But three things gave it away:
 
1. The cadence was too perfect. There was an emotional tone without any emotional response. You couldn’t hear or see the natural micro-shifts that are involuntary. There was no friction... humans aren’t that perfect. 
   
2. It demonstrated listening skills, but without understanding. It responded correctly, but without depth. You wouldn’t spot it immediately, but something didn’t quite land.
   
3. It just felt off. Darren felt this too and he couldn’t put a finger on why.  
 
And it’s number 3 that is going to lose you sales. 
 
AI will sell. 
It already does, I’m super impressed and excited by it. 
Some AI is emulating the micro cadence shifts making it feel almost impossible to tell.   

But high-ticket sales still runs on trust, judgment, and felt safety which provides the certainty needed to buy. 
 
This company may be excellent at what they do. Quite frankly, we’ll never know. But they lost the contract the moment the trust broke.
 
Another business will win simply because a human showed up. 
That’s a fact.

Here are my never-shared-before-mistakes from my first business of owning restaurants.

I thought I was empowering my team. In reality, I made them believe they were already excellent and then they had nowhere left to grow.
 
2͟.͟ ͟E͟n͟t͟e͟r͟t͟a͟i͟n͟i͟n͟g͟ ͟b͟a͟d͟ ͟i͟d͟e͟a͟s͟ ͟I͟ ͟k͟n͟e͟w͟ ͟w͟o͟u͟l͟d͟ ͟f͟a͟i͟l͟ ͟ 
The business was profitable, so I people pleased bad choices by the team and absorbed the hit. My role was to lead and I didn’t. The people pleaser in me took over.
 
3͟.͟ ͟T͟a͟k͟i͟n͟g͟ ͟o͟n͟ ͟a͟ ͟p͟r͟o͟j͟e͟c͟t͟ ͟w͟i͟t͟h͟o͟u͟t͟ ͟a͟ ͟c͟o͟n͟t͟r͟a͟c͟t͟ ͟e͟v͟e͟n͟ ͟w͟h͟e͟n͟ ͟m͟y͟ ͟i͟n͟s͟t͟i͟n͟c͟t͟s͟ ͟s͟a͟i͟d͟ ͟n͟o͟  
I was set to make £35K profit. I recouped costs, but the company filed for voluntary insolvency and I lost everything else.
 
4͟.͟ ͟L͟e͟n͟d͟i͟n͟g͟ ͟m͟o͟n͟e͟y͟ ͟t͟o͟ ͟f͟r͟i͟e͟n͟d͟s͟ ͟ 
A business friend needed £30K. We had contracts and terms all laid out. When repayment was due, she asked to hold back £5K “for a month” outside the agreement. I never saw that money again.
 
 
Now I:
 
1͟.͟ ͟G͟i͟v͟e͟ ͟c͟a͟n͟d͟i͟d͟ ͟f͟e͟e͟d͟b͟a͟c͟k͟,͟ ͟d͟e͟l͟i͟v͟e͟r͟e͟d͟ ͟w͟i͟t͟h͟ ͟k͟i͟n͟d͟n͟e͟s͟s͟
Everyone stays a learner. Mistakes are allowed, but accountability and how you recover from the mistake matters more than the mistake itself. For the mistake is rich with learning should we want to find it. 
 
2. L͟e͟a͟d͟ ͟w͟i͟t͟h͟ ͟c͟o͟n͟f͟i͟d͟e͟n͟c͟e͟ 
   and, no, that does not mean a dictatorship. I adopt a "Yes, and..." attitude to work beyond the initial idea and further them to something more suitable. 
 
3. T͟r͟u͟s͟t͟ ͟m͟y͟ ͟i͟n͟s͟t͟i͟n͟c͟t͟s͟.͟ ͟
   You probably thought having a contract was the lesson, but in this instance, the presence of a contract wold not have saved me. The real mistake was ignoring myself. Had I trusted my gut, I would have negotiated differently or walked away profitable.
 
4. C͟h͟o͟o͟s͟e͟ ͟m͟y͟ ͟c͟i͟r͟c͟l͟e͟ ͟i͟n͟t͟e͟n͟t͟i͟o͟n͟a͟l͟l͟y͟  
   Remove the proximity of people who see me as a bank. Those ties are cut. I protect my energy and integrity.
 
It’s interesting to see how much profound mistakes have caused huge shifts in my business over the past twenty years. From an insecure, shy, almost inaudible voice to someone who leads with clarity, self-trust and grounded authority.

Guarantees, how do you feel about them?
I finally figured out why it makes me feel uneasy. I wonder if you feel the same. 

I hadn’t really explored the feeling before but as I prepare Sales Gym (my epic group programme) for it’s 20 people challenge to get to a collective million, I’m exploring how to reduce the buyer resistance and the question of guarantees came up. 

I felt the usual uneasiness.
Not because of a lack of confidence 
and not because people that are the wild card 
That’s not it. 

I think guarantees are sleazy. 

This is my personal opinion and it can definitely be changed. 
I feel that it’s a tactic, and rarely can that guarantee ever be enforced because there are a set of rules that need to be followed to trigger the guarantee. 

People who need a guarantee to say yes often don’t believe in their own ability to succeed. They’re more focused on avoiding failure than creating results.  It’s not “let’s make this work.” It’s “let’s try, and if it doesn’t, I’m protected.”
 
Calculated risk is fine. It’s strategic and grown-up.  But the kind of risk that changes lives? That’s full-body commitment, not a plan B.
 
So what do you call that?
 
Sales Gym is usually £3K for 12 weeks. But this version? It’s a cohort of 20. We’re together for a minimum of 12 weeks, or until we hit $1 million in contracted revenue. Whichever takes longer.
 
It’s not a guarantee, though I can easily position it as one. That energy feels wrong.    
It’s more of a commitment to a result, to a cause... to a standard.
 
Maybe it’s an audacious one.  Maybe not audacious enough. We’ll see.
 
So I’m curious, what’s your relationship to guarantees?  Do you use them? Do they feel clean or sticky to you?

Being likeable is costing brand designers serious money.  
Trust is what closes high-value clients and most creatives are optimising for the wrong one.

And trust is not established from a portfolio either. You are more likely going to lose clients because of they way that you show up in client conversations.

Here’s what I see the successful brand designers do that actually moves the needle in their business:

• They lead the call. 
  Set-up the call early, frame it. This sets the agenda and you go from being friend zoned, chit chatting aimlessly or being reactive to actually leading it. 
  
• They find the problem.  
  It’s important not to jump into solutions before identifying what’s really at stake.
  
• They ask questions that form a perspective that helps them see the need, it opens the mind instead of gaining surface level information.
  
• They communicate their boundaries which shows what they value. 
  Confidence increases desirability. It also tells the buyer that they are a safe choice. 
  
This is how it’s done if you want to raise your prices and and attract better clients without rebranding, posting more, or getting louder online.


👉 If you want to charge more, 
stop justifying the price. 
Learn how to communicate your value.

👉  If you want better clients, 
stop sounding like an executor and start sounding like a partner.

👉 If you want easier sales, 
shift the buyer’s state before you ever mention price.

It gets to be simple, effective and repeatable.
Apply this for 30–60 days and watch how clients respond differently to you. 

I’ve seen it over and over again... same designer, doing the same work, communicating differently with a wildly different outcome.

A brand designer came to me stuck at £8–10K months.
She was busy, booked, and exhausted.  

It was a classic case of supreme talent with a strong portfolio. Despite all the good work she did, every project felt like a drag as if the joy was being zapped out of her. 
 
93 days later, she closed her first £30K project.
 
Here’s what we changed.
 
1. We shifted how clients perceived her before the call even started.  She came from the old industry and was positioned as a designer still charging hourly. So we repositioned her from designer to strategic partner. We worked on her communication so she stopped responding and started leading.

2. We rebuilt her sales process. She stopped charging hourly, stopped justifying prices and instead learnt to reframe the problem instead. She changed the questions she asked to shift the buyer state and set clearer boundaries around scope, decisions, and timelines.
 
The results spoke for themselves:
 
🤩 First £30K project closed 
🤩 Fewer revisions and faster decisions (high value clients are lower maintenance)
🤩 Clients trusting her direction 
🤩 A repeatable sales process she could rely on, no more winging it
 
She didn’t get there by charging her worth.  She followed a clear process and took action. Good things take time, and she did the work needed now reaping the rewards as her business has consistently grown since our time together. 

And no, she did not deliver better design solutions to get the better clients. She increased her sales skills and sales system, improved her profit margin, gained time.
