I used to run a $100M business unit at Google and lead the business development efforts of several startups like Hibob ($3.5B valuation) and MyHeritage, to find that my passion lies in helping startups grow, combining personal and business development.

You can't scale your startup, if you secretly hate your cofounder.

A few months ago, I started working with Dan.
Smart. Scrappy. Raised $4M.
And completely burnt out.

“I just need help with scaling” he said.
But within two sessions, something deeper came up.
His relationship with his cofounder.

Dan was doing 80 hours weeks.
Pushing product, hiring, dealing with endless day to day challenges.

Wicked: For Good is starting to make magic

Since the beginning of November, the excitement around Wicked: For Good is building up in the UK.

Check the data between 1.11 and 21.11 (for the largest five chains).
→ More than 188.k tickets were sold
→ Around 1.9k screens

Let me clarify, these numbers are changing all the time, so the data is from 13.11.

These parameters have been growing in the last few days, as anticipation is all-time high for the epic conclusion.

How about the cities? Let’s see…

London → 15k+ tickets, 164 screens
Bristol → 4k+ tickets, 30 screens 
Cardiff →  2.5k+ tickets, 28 screens 
Sheffield → 2k+ tickets, 25 screens
Leicester → 1.5k+ tickets, 18 screens

My guess?

Once the reviews start to come, the sales will pick up even more. 

You need to remember, the first movie not only received amazing reviews (88% on Rotten Tomatoes, 73 on Metacritic, “A” at CinemaScore), but it became a cultural phenomenon.

Wicked is one of the most popular fantasy movies in years, with over 700 million dollars at the worldwide box office. The fact that the second movie is coming only a year after its predecessor (they shot both parts back-to-back) is the best “strike while the iron is hot” scenario.

Oh, the first movie was also huge in the UK:
→ £59.6 million – Highest grossing movie of 2024
→ 6% of the year’s total box office
→ Around 4.7 million tickets 

So yeah, even though it’s still a little slow now, trust me, the Wicked phenomenon is going to crush it!!

Now You See Me 3 tops the UK

After nearly a decade, the third movie in the “Now You See Me” franchise had finally released. 

Let’s see how well it did in the UK:
During the weekend, it dominated 21% of the market share.

As for the data:
→ More than 199k tickets were sold
→ Around 1.2k screens 

These numbers are from this weekend (14-16/11) in the UK.

I must say, in the last few days, the numbers kept growing. I think one of the reasons is the fact that this movie is a definitive “crowd-pleaser”. 

It’s just a fun and creative heist movie that knows exactly what it wants to be, nothing more.

And people like it.

I’m also pretty sure that the new young cast, such as Ariana Greenblatt and Justice Smith, also draw some of the audience.

By the way, this is actually the best-reviewed movie in the franchise:

→ Now You See Me (51% on Rotten Tomatoes)
→ Now You See Me 2 (34% on Rotten Tomatoes)
→ Now You See Me 3 (59% on Rotten Tomatoes)

And since that movie was released almost a decade after its predecessor, maybe there’s also the nostalgia factor, at some 
capacity at least.
 
Oh, what about the cities?

London → 26k+ tickets, 145 screens
Leeds → 4k+ tickets, 23 screens
Glasgow → 4k+ tickets, 27 screens
Bristol → 3k+ tickets, 26 screens
Sheffield → 2k+ tickets, 11 screens

So yes, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is doing some pretty nice business. But I think this victory will be short-lived, because next weekend, Wicked is coming, and it’s going to be big.
