In the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to be an advisor on a board. And in typical fashion, I did what I usually do when I want something, I went into full on push and hustle mode - searching and looking.

I signed up for one of those agencies to help.
But nothing felt right. It just felt hard.
So I stopped pushing.
I just let it be.

Then one day I was chatting with Salim Gheewalla. We were just jamming and talking about marketing and media.

Chatting about the future of what IT could look like for small & mid size biz. 

After that convo, he invited me to be an Advisor for utilITise | Self Healing IT. He had no idea I was even looking (I never told him).

You may have been told you need to hustle to make things happen. But sometimes it's just the right time, right place, right moment.

The trust that things are working out when they are meant to.

If things feel hard right now, then maybe it's your sign to stop pushing. Maybe it's a sign to allow yourself to trust it will work when its meant to.

Yes, did I really say that? Yes.

Why? 

The energy is all wrong when you pretend. 
It goes from open to awkward (real quick)

Imagine going to a coffee chat where you expect to get to know someone, but end up spending the time being asked for a role (that you don’t have) or asked to buy something (that you are not looking for). 

It’s like a date where someone wants to get married and the other person well doesn’t…

Cue disappointment and awkwardness. 

On both sides. 

Here’s 3 ways to avoid being that person:
➡️If you need something right now, then be upfront and show that person you actually care about them. For example there’s a person who tells me about their platform in context to a post I’ve just written. I appreciate that effort and usually take a meeting

➡️Build a relationship with someone first. This is always the best. Get to know people, keep up with them, and then ask if you’ve established a relationship. If you want a freaking superstar move check out Shez Mehra. He drops voice notes or texts to people with no ask at all. Just updates about what’s happening even as he juggles building businesses and a family. 

➡️Get someone to intro you that you know. This is also a great way to break the ice so it doesn’t seem like a hot ask out of the gate. 

TLDR: people can feel your energy. 
Don’t mask something behind one thing when it’s really the other you want. 
People will sniff you out quickly. 

Agree or disagree?

Things that still don’t make sense to me working in media:

I have AI at my fingertips that is magical 

AND

I still have to use media planning software to plan from very large media companies that:
Is SUPER buggy
Not AI enabled
Drags my computer down, 
Transparently looks ANCIENT 
Also is like 5x the cost of other tools
Interfaces are still the same from 5 years ago. 

Yes, yes the data is worth it. 
I know that’s what we are paying for. 
But like c’mon…shouldn’t media software get upgraded as well?
