The F-chord of Innovation: Why do we want to learn to play the guitar but want to Fail Fast when trying to innovate?!?

I started playing the guitar a few years ago. I still suck. But I'm picking up my guitar regularly to see if I can finally play that challenging F-chord.

I can't but I keep trying, because I know that with enough practice I'll eventually hit the right chord.

When you're trying something new, things don't have to go perfect from the beginning. We all accept that. With walking. With talking. With learning to play an instrument.

Through practice comes perfection.

But not with innovation! With innovation we’re told to FAIL FAST. Or, at least, that's what stuck...

Because it sounds tough. Because it’s unexpected. Because it alliterates so nicely…

Well, if you like that, I can think of another F-word that alliterates perfectly along…

Because corporate leaders are not directly fond to promote failing. And corporate employees normally don’t raise their hands for becoming a failure.

That’s why ‘Fail Fast’ always gave me chills, and why I believe you should take this away from your vocabulary.

I launched my Letter of Marque newsletter!

The compass steering innovation-hungry employees to turn passion into meaningful change from within the fleet.

A Letter of Marque was issued to pirates by the King allowing them to sail under the Navy flag, and protecting them while showing acts of piracy.

You can see this as a License to Innovate for corporate employees, allowing them to act as intrapreneur and create change.

Through my Letter of Marque newsletter I want to help innovation-hungry employees claim their License to Innovate and work on their passion projects. 

I’ve identified a list of topics I’d like to share and give you the mindset, skillset and toolset to act as a licensed intrapreneur. Topics I love to write about.

Last week I launched my Letter of Marque newsletter.

I think this is the best way to summarize what it is.

A letter to innovation-hungry employees with my experiences, insights and tips that I build up over the past 15 years.

A source that corporate privateers can use to claim their License to Innovate.
