Have you ever noticed how the Business Model Canvas looks a bit like a tennis court?

I don’t know whether the layout was intentionally inspired by tennis but I’m not sure it matters.

What does matter is the effect.

The canvas feels familiar the moment you see it.

→ A centre
→ Two sides
→ Clear boundaries

Even if you’ve never used it before, it doesn’t feel alien.

Familiarity lowers the cognitive barrier. When something feels easy to pick up, it’s easier to adopt which might be one of the reasons why millions of people use it to start, grow, and pivot their companies.

This reminds me of the Tesla story.
The Model S was radical on the inside:
→ Electric drivetrain
→ Software-first
→ Over-the-air updates

But on the outside, it looked like a normal car.

This wasn’t accidental.

By making it look familiar, Tesla made it easier for people to say yes.
Only after mass adoption did Tesla feel able to release something that looked like it came from another planet (the Cybertruck.)

There’s a pattern here.
Early stage = new inside + familiar outside.
Later stage =  distinctiveness becomes the advantage

So the real question isn’t about canvases or cars or tennis courts.

What stage are you at?

Are you building something genuinely new and struggling with adoption?
You might need to make it feel more familiar, not more impressive.

Or are people already adopting your product at scale?
Maybe now is the moment to do something unmistakably out of the ordinary.

Familiarity can help people say yes.
Difference helps them remember why they chose you.
The trick is knowing which one you need right now.

Deciding to shift from market access strategy to setting up healthcare innovation at Roche, a 80,000+ employee company in 2015 changed my career—and my life—forever.

Here’s what happened next:

📌 2015: Led the transformation of innovation at Roche Pharma Global by establishing a team +  frameworks integrating design thinking, agile/scrum, and new business models to enhance access and pricing strategies. My feed is full of "Davos". But for me, January was really different. 
“I was in Davos.”
 “That was fun.”
 “That was amazing.”

Appendicitis for one kid.
Now flu for the other one.

So today, I just want to say this:

Spring is coming.
At some point, we will cheer again.

My LinkedIn account was hacked last Tuesday. This can happen to you, too.
Here is what you should do, now.

I spend so much time and effort creating content, exchanging with interesting people here, and one day (last Tuesday) I couldn't access my account

A hacker changed the email and the password. They erased some of my content.
I panic. 😱

Luckily, after a week, I am back, but still many damages to fix .🤬 (I can not ask for connections, no more company page..)

You don't want that to happen to you. Here are my recommendations:

✅ Security: 2-factor identification and passkey 
✅ Contacts Back up: in your own computer /  CRM 
✅ Profile and recommendations: screenshots 
✅ Content: created outside LinkedIn and copied and pasted here (you can automate that like I do) 
 ✅ Your own media (podcast, newsletter...)

What I see :
❌ lack of aligned goals
❌ impressive goals but bullsh*t
❌ only measuring training delivered
❌ nothing about Leadership and culture 
❌ only focus on pilot projects run by IT/digital

PS: Amazing hotel in Marseille - the Nhow hotel for a workshop on GenAI. It was sunny, not like in Basel lately.

😱  I have met so many leaders complaining their teams are NOT CREATIVE.
But there is a straightforward solution.
 
If your team has no physical space to design, draft, and brainstorm, they will not be creative. 

The solution is a whiteboard like Miro or Mural (or even Microsoft Whiteboard).

Helping team to adapt these tools and be more creative was a key part of my team coaching in 2025, as you can see on my Miro summary:
