As Geckle Professor and Chair, I developed courses and ran a cutting edge Bachelor of Science program in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics for one semester. During this time, I marketed the university cybersecurity and information systems programs to prospective and accepted students, advised incoming freshman and transfer students as well as students enrolled in the programs. I taught undergraduate students to conduct research, conduct root cause analyses, write reports and recommendations, perform peer reviews, and make formal presentations. These resulted in a solid understanding of the field by the students and I was rewarded with a 4.91 out of 5.0 student evaluation score for my teaching and mentoring activities. I also promoted both the traditional face to face programs and the online programs globally using zero cost marketing methods, which immediately resulted in increased enrollment and recognition for the university.

• Launched competency based Master of Science in Cybersecurity Technology degree program and grew global enrollment from 1,500 to 4,800 within 3 years using modern low cost high yield marketing and branding strategy. Enrollment in all graduate cybersecurity programs went from 6,000 to 10,000 globally. Project eliminated textbooks and tests and included hands on lab work. Program was an award winning program for 3 years in a row under my leadership.
• Recruited 60+ graduate practitioner/scholar faculty members. Coached and mentored 121 faculty members. Helped faculty, students and graduate win multiple industry awards.
• Catered to the flexible professional development needs of a diverse global student body of working professionals.

CMIT 265 - Network Fundamentals. This course is designed to cover all the materials for CompTIA Network+ and provide the student with a solid foundation in designing networks. A solid understanding of computers is assumed in this class. The class combines virtual classroom learning, online and lab work for a complete student experience. Students learn to apply their learning to business situations.
CMIT 320 - Network Security. This course is designed to cover all the materials for CompTIA Security+ and provide the student with a broad introduction to the exciting field of cybersecurity. A solid understanding of networks equivalent to CompTIA Network+ certification is assumed in this class. The class combines virtual classroom learning, online and lab work for a complete student experience. Students learn to apply their learning to business situations.

Cybersecurity Faculty, The Undergraduate School

University of Maryland Baltimore County

Taught 300+ graduate students key principles and practical aspects of cybersecurity leadership, governance, risk management, and compliance using techniques of project based experiential learning, peer review, collaborative learning, gamification, humor, executive communications and business level thinking and critical analysis.

Specific course taught:

CYBR 620 - Introduction to Cybersecurity. This course provided students with the foundational concepts of cybersecurity and knowledge. While not tailored to the test, the course provided students knowledge to pass CompTIA Security+.

CYBR 650 - Cybersecurity Operations & Management. This course provided students with the knowledge and methodology to lead cybersecurity in any organization. Topics include cybersecurity models, cybersecurity executive roles, ethical leadership and its connection to profitability and innovation, building organizational cybersecurity governance, cybersecurity operations, team building, cybersecurity and innovation culture, incident response, and disaster recovery. Students demonstrated learning through written and oral research analysis of several organizations.

CYBR 658 - Cybersecurity Risk Management and Compliance. This course covered cybersecurity risk management and compliance issues from a business perspective. Risk frameworks such as NIST 800-53v4, SP800-37, SP 800-39, and NIST Risk Management Framework were covered through student led presentations of the reading material and demonstration of learning in written research analysis papers of several organizations.

Courses taught through a combination of in person classroom learning, collaborative learning, coaching, and student research papers and presentations. Analysis, independent thinking, leadership development and active student participation is stressed. Instructor's 30 years of real world experience including 12 years as CIO is shared in class to provide students with a practical understanding of the discussion topics.

Maryland Health Benefit Exchange

• Mentored Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Privacy Officer.
• Developed technology and cybersecurity governance framework for the Maryland Health Connection (Maryland's health insurance exchange to implement the Affordable Care Act) and documented the project vision and project roles. 
• Developed system security plans, privacy impact assessments, risk assessments, security and privacy policies, security and privacy training program, table top exercises in accordance with IRS and CMS requirements. 
• Identified and documented system bugs and developed work arounds, trained organizational staff, case workers, supervisors and navigators of local health departments and departments of social services around the state in using the highly complex system. 
• Supported the Consolidated Service Center workers, Navigators and Case Workers at health insurance enrollment fairs and resolved problems with over 10,000 cases.

•Provided strategic information technology and cybersecurity vision for institution to participate in healthcare world of the future.  Developed partnerships with national, state and local health departments. 
•Served as project executive, developed relations with all stakeholders including donor organizations, developed architectural framework and vision, and implemented Baltimore city schools' first electronic health records system to serve 84,000 students at all Baltimore city public schools. Reduced $1 million in project costs and 1 year in project implementation time. Won grant to implement project.
•Developed project and architectural framework to implement the City's first ever automated restaurant inspection system using mobile devices and cloud based software at a very low cost.
•Presented human behavioral information security model at Health CIO Summit. 
•Developed teamwork and led team to update electronic health records (EHR) to Meaningful Use certified versions and successfully implemented HIPAA 5010 electronic billing in compliance with federal and state regulations within deadlines.

I am an education and business leader, keynote speaker, author, and career coach with over 30 years of experience in cybersecurity, personal branding, public speaking, coaching, and business development. I have experiences as Chief Information Officer in healthcare, biotechnology, and education. 

I've developed complete academic Masters and Doctoral level programs in cybersecurity and digital forensics. One of my programs won Best Cybersecurity Higher Education Program in the USA award in 2018 and 2019 - two years in a row. I won an award from (ISC)2 for this prgram. I designed highly fault tolerant information technology environments in high-risk businesses such as nuclear power plants, healthcare, and securities trading organizations. I help professionals discover themselves, project their value, get jobs and clients, and advance their careers in any field.
