I spent ~$20k on a sales program, including ad spend...

Then, nothing happened.

I took it seriously, followed the process, did the assignments, and for 2 months we went all in.

We were still short of breakeven at the end of it.

So I did what I always do in these situations: 

I treated it like a framework, pulled out the parts that were working, and rebuilt the parts that needed to match our product, our audience, our sales motion.

I went back and re-did the offer.
I re-did the funnel.

And I re-did the work properly (the part that actually moves the needle):

Intent-triggers have a volume, cost and effort problem.


I see a lot of teams talk about “signals” like they are a cheat code, but when you actually map the workflow end-to-end, you realize very quickly why most companies abandon it after a month.

Let’s take the most common ones.

👉 1/ Anonymous website visitors

You pay for the data.

Then you pay to validate it (and you lose ~60% right there, because a lot of “matches” are guesses).

Then you pay to qualify what’s left ( CRM + criteria + someone defining what “qualified” even means) and you lose another ~25%.

Then you pay to outreach to the last ~15%.
Then you work those leads and try to book a call.

So the “signal” itself is only a small part of the system, the rest is cost + ops + follow-through.

👉 2/ Content engagers

This one sounds great until you do it at scale.

You either need a semi full-time SDR to do it properly, or you need two automation tools (one to scrape + send outreach, one to qualify), and you still need someone to keep it clean.

And then you look at who likes your posts:

Competitors, vendors, people out of country, people who will never buy.

So the question becomes simple: are the few qualified accounts worth DM’ing, or is it more important to focus on creating more (and better) content that drives organic demand anyway.

Some of you have 3 likes per post, so “engagers outreach” is not a strategy, it’s a hobby.

👉 3/ Funding round

Only relevant if you sell to SaaS, and even then it works better when you have a clear POV on “why now” for that buyer (not just “congrats on the round”).

👉 4/ Hiring

This one can work when the job title is popular, directly relates to what you sell, and you sell an excellent alternative to a full-time hire.

Hiring is a real budget signal, but it still needs a strong angle to convert.

So yes, intent triggers can work, but they are not “free pipeline”.

They are a system that needs volume + tooling + process + follow-through, and most teams underestimate that part.

I thought we may be losing sales to AI hype in our space.

So I asked my sales team a simple question:

“Are leads asking about AI?”

They said: not really.

What surprised me even more..

Many leads actually say they prefer a solution that is human-first.

Why I think this is happening:

1. Buyers are tired of the buzzwords
2. “AI” now often translates to: risk, unpredictability, and support tickets
3. In some categories, people don’t want speed- they want control and trust

* A founder-led VSL ad

Your VSL should be simple and outcome-driven.
“I helped this eCommerce brand go from 50k per month to 1m per month in 6 months…”

Then walk through:
* Their pain
* What wasn’t working
* What you changed
* The outcome
 Do this & it’ll attract more ICPs (less time-wasters)

3. Headhunt consistently

Don’t wait until you close deals to start hiring.

When March hits and revenue comes in:
* If you don’t have capacity, delivery suffers
* Delivery suffers, churn increases
* You’re back in survival mode

Be constantly looking for quality onshore talent. Layer strong offshore support around them.
Build bench strength before you need it.

This period is tough. That’s normal.

It’s what you do to come out of it stronger than ever.  The best agencies out there?

They plan for this in advance.
They’re consistent with the above.

And keep scaling, no matter what happens.
