Many people see this as a personal failure, but it's not...It's a signal.

The conditions most of us are operating under are VUCA: Volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. 

Understanding that context can help, but awareness doesn’t resolve the problem on its own. We have to adapt.

That’s where Rebellion begins.

People who can't burn everything down and walk away, but also aren't willing to keep drifting on dwindling momentum, and the distant hope of retirement.

The core of this work is reclaiming capacity through deliberate attention to our time, energy, and attention. Not as another productivity hack, but as a way to interrupt deep patterns of self-betrayal and distraction, and regain agency over how we live and work.

I spent 13 years in big tech and more than a decade as an entrepreneur, thriving through reorgs, layoffs, pivots, bubbles, crashes and volatility inside and out. 

I've learned the real risk isn’t falling behind...

It’s staying "busy" on autopilot while slowly losing contact with who you are.

One of the most important things I've done for my business and wellbeing in the last few years is setting up my routines and schedule to allow for more spaciousness and connection with myself first, before I take in input from the outside world. 

For me that looks like slow ramp into my days and weeks where possible.
 - No meetings before 9am PT. 
- No touching my phone first thing in the morning.
- No touching my phone the last thing before I go to bed. 
- No meeting Mondays and Fridays
- No meetings after 5pm PT.

That gives me an opportunity to fill my cup, ground myself and get clear about what's more important during the week that needs my attention. 
 
This also requires me to be ruthlessly and compassionately efficient with the rest of my week. 

Tuesday to Thursday are full of coaching calls, sales calls, partnership calls. 

That leaves Monday and Friday (and some weekends) for heads down creative, strategic or business development work. 

Those constraints don't leave a lot of room for distraction. 
It makes it easier to say no to things that aren't urgent and important. 
It makes it easier to bring my attention back on track when i notice myself getting distracted. 

I know not everyone has the luxury of adjusting their schedules in these ways, but we all have minutes and usually hours in our day that is frittered away by distraction, inputs and demands on our energy that aren't urgent or important. 

Curiosity around those moments is the first step. 

Notice how it feels to be immediately pulled into an algorithmic feed, the news, social media, or your inbox first thing in the morning.

Take 5 minutes today without that. Notice what it feels like to be present with you own experience instead. 

You could start and end your day like this for a few days this week and notice is anything shifts for you.

I'm hearing this quite a bit since the first of the year:
it’s a tough time all around right now
for humans
and perhaps extra for those of us who are business leaders

some days, a leader doesn’t need more 
frameworks, KPI's, OKR's, strategies, initiatives, task lists, accountability, data, or mission-vision-purpose-values

we need more encouragement
and when we need it most
it seems, as leaders, that can be the time 
when it's the most challenging to ask for

since I was a kid, I've loved quotes
