📌MY BIG WHY! In Nigeria, one needs to be multi-tasking in other to survive the economic inflation rate that keeps getting high on daily basis.

I used to plan every minute of Monday 
like my worth depended on it.

Projects.

Every Monday, I ask myself one question 

before touching a single report:

What actually needs to happen this week 
versus what just feels loud?

Because here’s the truth 
no one talks about:

In data work, urgency is a performance. 
Not a priority.

So I use my Rule of 3:
Before I write SQL, 
build a dashboard, or reply to
Can this be done by EOD?, 
I ask:
🔹 Will this change a real decision?
🔹 Does it impact more than one team?
🔹 Can it wait 3+ days without breaking anything?

If it doesn’t pass all three?
It goes on my Later list.

No guilt. No FOMO 
(Fear of Missing Out).
Just focus.

Because most urgent requests are:
Someone’s panic turned into my task

A habit (we’ve always reported this)
Or noise dressed up as strategy

And I’m done being busy 
while nothing moves forward.

Now, I protect my energy
like it’s production code.

Not because I’m overwhelmed.
But because clarity starts 
With saying ‘not now.’

You’ll never see the full story.

The truth is this
No data should scare you.  
No comment should 
Silence your insight.

Turn text into numbers.

Not because I wanted 
to remove the details  
But because I wanted 
to measure it.

Because here’s the truth 
Most analysts miss:
You don’t need everything 
to come as numbers.
You just need to know 
How to make them count.

Too many data professionals 
skip over open-ended responses like:

- I love this product. 
- It’s too slow. 
- Maybe next time.

They say:  
There’s no way to analyze this.  

But that’s not true.

When you code:
- ✅ Yes = 1  
- ❌ No = 0  

You turn messy words into clean, 
countable insight.

Suddenly:
- You can calculate satisfaction rates
- Compare trends across teams
- Track changes over time

And yes 
Even complex feedback like 
It works, but only sometimes 
can be broken down into 
structured variables.

Most analysts wait for perfect data.

But real analysts like me  
We work with what we have.

Because if you’re scared of text  
You’ll never see the full story.

No part of the data 
should scare you.  
No comment should 
put you off balance.

If it’s data, you own it.

If you’ve ever been “open to work”


You already know that dreaded 
Email starts with one word 

“Unfortunately.”

Yeah. That word that carries a polite sting.

The one that shows up after weeks 
of waiting, refreshing, and believing.

At first, I thought it was an automatic reply 
until I realized, nope, it’s personal.

I’ve received that mail more than a few times.
And these days, it doesn’t move me anymore.

I’ve grown past it.
But it wasn’t always like that.

That moment after the exam
When you know you aced it  
Only to see an "E" staring at you.

No explanation.  
No justice.  
Just shame thrown in your face like it was deserved.

Sound familiar?

Because that’s exactly how I felt when I got that email:

“Unfortunately, we’ve decided to 
move forward with other candidates.”

That one line has a way of turning 
your confidence inside out.

I had poured everything into that application:

- Studied late into the night
- Practiced my presentation 
until my voice cracked
- Built sample dashboards from scratch 
real data, real insight

But here’s the thing, after a while, 
I noticed something deeper.

That “unfortunately” wasn’t just rejection.
It was redirection.

Here’s what rejection really does (if you let it):
 ✅ It humbles you, 
makes you look at your blind spots.
 ✅ It refines you, 
sharpens what really matters.
 ✅ It toughens you, 
builds the kind of grit no praise ever will.

So instead of replaying the pain,
I started reframing the lesson.

I asked myself:
“What if this ‘no’ isn’t proof 
that I’m not good enough 
But proof that I’m growing?”

And from that point, I did three things:
1️⃣ Reviewed every step. 
Where could I have been clearer?
2️⃣ Sought honest feedback. 
Not comfort clarity.
3️⃣ Practiced in public. 
Shared my work. Built in the open. Let growth be visible.

It didn’t feel like progress. It felt like pain.
But now, I’m thankful.

Because those “unfortunately” 
emails forced me to own my voice, 
refine my craft,

and stop waiting for permission to be seen.
Now, when I show up, 
I’m not hoping to be noticed.
I’m showing proof that I belong here.

Rejection isn’t your end.
It’s your refining fire.

Use the most advanced tools

But if you can’t explain your findings 
in a language everyone understands, 
You haven’t solved anything.

And let’s be honest, this is 
where most analysts struggle.

They hand over beautiful graphs 
that look like art, but say nothing.

They present insights that sound 
smart, but mean nothing to the 
people who actually need them.

In real life, stakeholders are not 
Looking for fancy dashboards.

They are looking for clarity.
Confidence.
Direction.

The founder wants to know:
Are we losing money or not?

The product manager wants to know:
What’s the real problem? 
Feature or user behavior?

The marketing lead wants to know:
Where should we double down?

They want answers.
Not charts.
Not jargon.
Not complexity.

And that’s where great analysts stand out:
We translate numbers into stories.

We make insights human.
We remove fear and replace
It with understanding.

Because data is not powerful
until people can use it.

And people can’t use what 
They don’t understand.

So yes
Ask me about communication.

Ask me how I bridge the gap 
between data and decision.

Because the real value of analysis 
Isn’t the dashboard you build
It’s the clarity you deliver.

Behind every successful decision is someone 

who looked at the data differently.

Last year, I worked with a fintech startup 
They were actually struggling 
with what looked like a scary drop 
in user activity.
 
Everyone was convinced the 
product was failing 

the CEO thought it was a feature problem, 
the product team blamed a competitor, 
and the marketing team was ready to 
overhaul their entire strategy.

But something didn’t sit right with me.
So instead of asking What went wrong?, 
I asked, What are we not seeing?

I put on my third eye
my analytical eye

That’s when I noticed a quiet 
pattern no one paid attention to:

Users weren’t leaving
they were shifting. 

A large segment had started using the app 
late at night instead of during the day.
(YouTube night users will understand this)
 Not churn behavior change.

And tucked inside that shift was the real
 opportunity: a new group of users who 
needed faster nighttime support.

Once the team made that one small adjustment, 
activity didn’t just recover, it grew.

Most people think data breakthroughs 
come from big tools or complex models 

but the truth is, the magic often lies in perspective. 
In the willingness to question the obvious 
instead of panicking about the surface.

Here’s how I approach moments like this:

1. Slow down before diving in.
2. Ask the question everyone is afraid to ask.
3. Look for the quiet pattern hiding behind the loud metric.

Decisions become powerful when you notice what others rush past.

Statistics.

But no course teaches you 
how to sit in a meeting
knowing the numbers are wrong
 
and no one wants to hear it.
That skill?

You must teach yourself.
Because it’s the skill that 
puts you in control of your reports.

No class prepares you for:
• The silence after you say,
 Retention is dropping.
 That kind of silence 
where you can hear a pin fall.

• The eye rolls when you ask,
 Where did this data come from?
 As if data source doesn’t change everything.

• The pressure to nod along
when leadership celebrates a metric
that doesn’t move the needle.

So you let them celebrate.
Then quietly say,

The battle is not won yet.
Because real data work isn’t just logic.
 It’s courage.

I’ve been there.
More times than I can count.

I’ve watched dashboards glow green
while churn burned quietly underneath.

Only an analytical eye could see it.
I pointed it out.

Gently at first.
Then firmly.
Then alone.

Until one day my boss, 
frustrated, asked:
Why does no one else see what you see?

And I answered:
Because most people don’t want truth.

They want comfort.
They want cheering news.”

Here’s what they don’t teach you as a Data Analyst:
Data is not the enemy of growth.
False confidence is.

Insight doesn’t win by volume.
It wins by persistence.

You don’t have to shout.
You just have to keep showing up 

with clarity, consistency, and conviction.

Don’t wait for permission to speak.
If the number is wrong 
say it.
If the trend is fake 
name it.

If no one acts 
keep speaking.

Because one day, 
someone will lean over and whisper:
Thank you for not staying silent.
