Director, Policy and Legislation

Working in a climate of constant change, develop cross-ministry integration of implementation and evaluation requiring negotiation to harmonize performance indicators and build collaborative relationships. This requires coordination and alignment across the GOA to measure recovery and align with strategic goals. 

Took on additional responsibilities as acting Executive Director, including input into strategic direction of public safety governance and task force transition. 

This position requires developing a culture of pro-active evaluation within the GOA to provide evidence-based options for decision makers.

Working closely in a collaborative, high performing policy team, tracked emergent issues from the Alberta 2013 floods that required options and recommendations development. Prepped briefing notes and decision documents with a broad range of ministries to move decisions forward for funding and new program development and delivery. 

cool things: some of the projects funded through these initiatives resulted in improvements to provincial infrastructure, helped ensure kids could go to school after the flood, and may have resulted in the discovery of a new dinosaur.

Senior Researcher

I am a cultural interpreter and translator. 

I worked for 4 years in the heart of the Empire ... the UK statistics organization that traces its roots back to the 1066 domesday book. 

I also did work for Eurostat and the International Labour Organization finding ways to make labour market and time use data (which is used worldwide to build policy measures for places like the OECD, tequiring internstional consistency within measures) more inclusive across genders and cultures in 2004. 

I also worked for the Canadian government, two provincial governments (BC and Alberta - polar opposites on the poltical spectrum), which included pan-Canadian policy and strategy coordination for emergency management.

leaving colonial government, i worked for tue Métis Nation and now work   Indigenous governing body, now I work on reserve supporting First Nations recovery after disasters. 

One of my dads is a political refugee from Chile, and grew up in the Chilean diaspora. 

There are few people who have the kind of cultural immersion in their professional experience across multiple governments in different roles, not as a consultant going from one to another. 

I have studied well-being from the nehiyaw (cree), siksika (blackfoot), and Métis worldviews, with a focus on Lii Métis Tohtamowin (Red River Cart Wheel teachings). I am also a sociologist with expertise in the labour market and understanding structural dynamics that (re)create situations that can cause trauma without the tools to navigate these situations. 

My practice includes decolonization, somatic embodiment and regulation strategies to help people build a good life through learning to build secure attachment. 

I am a queer, Métis single mum of two living and practicing in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton).
