This *cracks knuckles* is my ✨specialty✨. 

Here are three ways you can increase subscriber engagement and decrease unsubscribes from the jump. ⬇️

👉 Re-direct new subscribers to a mini survey (5 questions max). People who sign up for your newsletter are MOST engaged immediately after they join your list—so make sure you capitalize on their excitement and get them to go deeper. 

👉 Email them a welcome email with a strong subject line that they will open. Things like "Yey, you're IN!" or "Are we best friends now?" work great. 

👉 From that first welcome email — you want to invite people to 1) move you to their primary inbox, 2) click on SOMETHING and even better 3) get them to reply. All three of these things will increase your deliverability + train your subscribers that when you send them emails—they should engage.

The point of the first few steps after an email subscriber joins your list is not to explain 1890473 things —it's to build momentum.

Taking these steps is how I convinced 77% of 30 Day Growth Challenge participants to fill out a mini survey + capture 22% of participants phone numbers to send text reminders. 

It works.

There are a million ways to grow an email list. 

But not all ways are created equal—and that's ok. 💡

Sometimes, you have the capacity to take on a project—like a virtual summit. It's a lot of work (just ask jacob adams who is hosting his first Inside Out Summit on March 19), but it has a huge pay off (his email list has already grown 16% in the last few weeks). 

Other times, you need systems to operate 24/7—like a pop up on your website. 

Of course, there is a million tactics in-between a high touch project and a no-touch automation.

100s if not thousands of subscribers will unsubscribe from your nonprofit's email list each year. 

They just will. 

Maybe their email address will go inactive. 
Maybe they will leave their job. 
Maybe they will no longer be interested in your mission. 

100% totally ok—not to mention normal. 

But that is why you will need to bring in ✨new✨ subscribers each and every year if you want to continue to grow. 📈

It's simple math. 

Let's say your nonprofit started 2026 with 5,000 email subscribers—yey!

...but each year about 10% or 500 subscribers will say goodbye 👋.

That means if you don't do anything—at best, you'll start 2027 with only 4,500 subscribers. Over a 5 year period your email list could shrink to HALF of where you started. 

If you want to GROW—you'll actually need to refill the bucket AND add some new folks. 500 subscribers to recoup your loss + 500-750 to continue to grow.
