Hi! I'm Nadine - Strategy Partner at Tangent.

Tangent is a 100-strong team of strategists, designers and engineers helping our clients ship innovative digital products faster.

I help define the product strategy and experience across the agency's brand portfolio, developing digital solutions that meet both business requirements and customer needs.  

Throughout my career I have gained 15 years of experience in both B2B and B2C digital marketing sectors, giving me a deep understanding of customer journeys through the range of (ever-evolving) digital channels.

I pride myself on being honest, practical and hardworking, taking my work seriously but having a laugh along the way.

As the CTO at Tangent, I lead the technological direction and strategy, driving innovation across all technical domains.

Leadership and Strategy:
- Represent the largest department at the senior management level.
- Lead a globally distributed team across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
- Define and execute the company’s strategy for services, delivery, operations, and culture.

Team and Growth:
- Oversee recruitment, development, and management of technical staff.
- Drive significant team growth and ensure sustainable revenue streams.

Innovation and Development:
- Lead our AI team, funded with £5 million, to develop groundbreaking products for FTSE 250 companies.
- Pioneer cloud-first architectures, JAMStack, microservices, and automation.

Client Engagement and Delivery:
- Oversee technical delivery for clients like SAP, Labour Party, UKPN, REED, IWG/Regus, and Sky.
- Ensure high-quality delivery through robust support models and processes.

Technical Architecture and Solutions:
- Provide architecture for greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Develop new service offerings for headless CMSs, enterprise & open-source CMSs, SPA, SSG, SSR frontends, and mobile apps.

Operations and Security:
- Oversee database and cloud infrastructure using AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Act as DPO and ISM, ensuring ISO27001 certification.

Community and Advocacy:
- Promote sustainable system design, diversity in tech, and dyslexia awareness.

Chief Technology Officer

- Representation of the largest department within Tangent; at senior management level.
- Leading a 40+ strong team, made-up of technical architects, frontend & backend developers, quality, infrastructure and operational IT. 
- Jointly defining the companies strategy for servicing offer, delivery, operations and people/culture
- Driving 50% growth within the tech team as well as the sustainable retained revenue to support it
- Ensuring the revenue streams to sustain my team growth
- Pitching, workshops, solutioning and cost for new business opportunities
- Technical/Solution Architecture for green and brown field projects
- Overseeing all aspects of technical delivery for client such as SAP, Labour Party, UKPN, REED, IWG/Regus and Sky
- Introducing an enterprise level support model and onboarding of retained UKPN and REED accounts
- Pioneering a JAMStack / mircoservice de-facto approach with Tangent 
- Working with back-end languages such as Python, .NET Core, .NET Framework, PHP, Java and Go

Technical Director

POSSIBLE

- Responsible for defining and describing a recommended technical approach for a project. As well as producing technical design (UML) and functionality specifications.
- Quality Assurance of Technical Delivery ensuring Code Quality for the project; i.e. ASP.NET, MVC & CMS Best Practices implemented.
- Responsible for defining Physical System design and requirements. Including continuous deployments design using Bamboo/NUnit/Selenium/Octopus.
- Working with stakeholders to design scalable, loosely coupled CMS Integrations, considering design patterns and OWASP A9. These have included a compliance system, elastic search FIND replacement and external services using WCF.
- Estimating technical effort, defining ACs, determining additional costs.
- Implementing processes for sprints including peer-to-peer code reviews, release notes, QA reports, deployment processes (ensuring HA), reviewing ACs.
- Recommend CMS upgrade planned based on errors, issues, new functionality.
- Identifying, categorising project technical risks and articulating a mitigation strategy.
- Managing sprint team/Scrum master.
- Running workshops in the role of a BA; defining functional/non-functional requirements, actors and use-cases that flow through the project from UX to MVP & backlog for BAU.
- Working with the team define Test Plans for a project, ensuring core functionality has a sufficient level of Tests in place by design (TDD).
- Consult with the client on technology strategy and act as a trusted adviser.

Principle Technical Architect

Emperor Design

- Involved in the Umbraco CMS community; going to meetups, hackathons and festivals.

- Introducing an Agile approach to working with third party suppliers 

- Involved in technical pitches - Scoping directly with the client to produce a product to meet their needs 

- Planning and costing for working - Producing technical documentation 

- Managing a team of developers on a large-scale project 

- Working on front-end, backend as well as scripting on large scale corporate sites 

- Responsible for layout out coding best practices and review peers and third parties work 

- Presentations internally on case studies and new technologies - Custom integration with externally systems and CRMs - Introduction the Umbraco CMS into the organisation 

- Training internal team on HTML, CSS and CMSs

My core responsibilities are Last Exit include:

• Scoping and thought leading on pitch level for projects, working alongside producers and designers.
• Engineering the integration between design and development; using innovative technologies to
produce high quality pixel perfect products.
• Communication and presentations to clients from the initial stages of a project, through to product
delivery and training.
• The personal development of Junior and placement developers and the wider team.
• Scheduling, quoting and resource management for maintenance clients.

Below is a selection of projects from well over 30 sites I worked on for Last Exit:

Umbraco (INTO) - Latest Last Exit Project:
I was responsible for the development of three different websites for INTO, INTO Higher (www.intohigher.com), INTO Success (www.into-success.com) and INTO Corporate (www.intocorporate.com). All three sites were build in Umbraco and involved a high level of custom code using a combination of C# and XLST to manipulate the XML backend. In regards to the front end of the site JQuery and various third party plugin were integrated into the CMS and are hence fully controllable by the end user. In addition for INTO Higher structured the site to allow the user to build up pages from a selection of over 20 modules as well as making the site available in 4 languages.

Kentico sites:
As well as producing sites in Umbraco we have developed multi sites a CMS called Kentico using HTML/CSS, C#, JavaScript/JQuery tested across a range of browsers.. A few of the sites include:

I'm the CTO at Tangent, where I lead a diverse and globally distributed team with staff in Europe (UK, Poland, and Spain), Africa (Egypt and South Africa), and Asia (Pakistan). We are dedicated to creating cloud-first, scalable, robust, and secure applications.

With over 20 years of experience, I specialize in architecting, building, supporting, and maintaining award-winning, complex systems for prominent clients such as SAP, IWG, Grant Thornton, Aegon, UKPN, Sky, REED, and NRF.

I also lead our AI team, which received £5 million in funding to develop ground-breaking products for FTSE 250 companies.

I'm passionate about sustainable system design, diversity in tech, and dyslexia awareness. I actively champion these causes by speaking at conferences across Europe, participating in meet-ups, and engaging with various organizations.

I have been honoured with a Highly Commended Award for Tech Leader of the Year at Prolific North and have been recognized as part of the BIMA 100, which celebrates the most influential people in the digital industry.

In addition, I'm a member of SaaS product steering groups and the BIMA Innovation Council, contributing to the future of technology and innovation.
