While this update made me question myself...

It also made me reflect on the badges that actually last: the ones we earn in life.

Badges for kindness, resilience, and how we make people feel.

I’ve been to many funerals, and no one EVER mentions work achievements, your follower count or how much $ you made during the eulogies.

They remember you as a loving parent, amazing spouse, supportive uncle, empowering leader, faithful believer and the list goes on.

You will be remembered for the impact you had on people's lives and the difference you made.

That’s the only badge that never expires.

I was once backdoored.

If you’ve never worked in recruitment, that’s when a company hires your candidate behind your back so they don't have to pay your fees.

Back then, I was in rec2rec: a recruiter helping recruitment companies hire other recruiters.

I had sent a candidate to a recruitment company and was genuinely rooting for her. 

There was some back and forth over a few months but they didn't make an offer.

Then one day, I opened LinkedIn…and her headline made my jaws drop.

She was now working at the same company I’d sent her to.

Kena backdoored! 🤯

The biggest irony was it was a recruitment company backdooring another recruitment company (what happened to the golden rule of doing unto others?)

Thankfully we reminded them of our legal agreement and got paid in the end.

🔊PSA to every candidate out there:

If an agency recruiter introduces you to a role, that’s their client and you are their 'product'.

Even if things go quiet, loop your recruiter in before reconnecting directly, or if the client reaches out to you behind their back.

Recruiters put a lot of time into sourcing, screening, interviewing, prepping, selling candidates, selling opportunities and many more... with zero guaranteed payment because agency recruiters only get paid for a successful placement.

You lose nothing and they earn what they deserve.

And no, I’m not naming or shaming.

They made it right in the end and I believe in 2nd chances (I just remember patterns😂 )

I'm tired of the AI witch hunt on LinkedIn.

"Your post sounds AI-generated."

Here's what nobody wants to admit: You can't tell the difference between good AI-assisted content and human-written content. 

But you know what IS obvious? Bad AI content.

The generic. The vague. The "leverage synergies to unlock growth" nonsense that sounds like ChatGPT regurgitated a business book.

That's not an AI problem. That's a lazy thinking problem.

Writing has always been about using tools. Research. Editing. Feedback. Grammarly, Jasper and Spellcheck before ChatGPT came on the scene... 

AI is just another tool (a very powerful one if I may add).

Here's what matters: 

🤔Is the content helpful? 
🤔Does it make people think? 
🤔Does it start conversations?

If yes, I don't care if a human wrote it, AI wrote it, or if my dog Benji wrote it on my laptop while I'm asleep at night (he is a sneaky one).

The difference? I'm thinking. I'm editing. I'm making choices.

That's what separates good content from slop. Not whether AI touched it, but whether a brain did.

The real issue isn't people using AI. It's people using it as a replacement for thinking instead of a tool for thinking.

🤫I have a hidden passion…

Bringing people together and connecting them to each other. 

Yet I stopped doing that for 5 years. 

In Sydney, I started a free English meetup for international students and migrants who wanted a place to belong. The Meetup group grew to over 7k members in 3 years.

When I returned to Singapore, I co-founded a community called COMET — bringing together coaches, mentors, and trainers.

I even hosted “friends-of-friends” events for singles (entry rule: you had to bring one eligible friend of the opposite gender to keep the ratio balanced and the singles high quality).

Then COVID hit. No more in person events. 

Between lockdowns and caregiving, I stopped hosting events. (Ask any community builder, it takes a lot of time and energy!) 

But lately, that old spark has been returning.

Because the digital world isn’t a physical space where you can feel belonging. 

Sure, a Linkedin comment thread can create sparks.

But real connection? That happens when people show up in real life.

You can’t algorithm your way into trust.

You can’t automate belonging.

And you definitely can’t outsource friendship to AI.

Community is the last algorithm-proof strategy.

If your post can bring people together, that’s your edge.
