Founders: I'm sorry, but posting at 8:01am or testing 2 posts/day vs 1 post/day, or pivoting to one content format because you heard it worked well is a colossal waste of your time.

I'm noticing an alarming trend of founders thinking one of these traditional LinkedIn hacks is going to be their magic bullet to Adam Robinson status. 

I'm not the slightest bit sorry to burst your bubble in saying it's not (if it was, agencies like ours at Hat Tip wouldn't exist).

Those ridiculous little algorithm hacks aren't going to move the needle for you when it comes to driving pipeline. What will is much simpler than that:

1. Defining a strong POV on your industry (that aligns with your product/service's mission).

2. Considering your ICP's pain points, concerns, FAQs, and anything else they value and turning them into content ideas.

3. Posting 3-5x high-quality posts per week that make them feel like you're a resource to them—irrespective of format hacks or anything else.

4. Doing this consistently, day in and day out, for 90 days (which, by the way, is what hack-chasers struggle most with).

I assure you, this will lead to more inbound than any algorithm hack you can think of.

Except the truth is a lot harder to stomach 🙃

I've done everything I could possibly imagine to avoid this, but I'm finally biting the bullet.

I hate being on camera. Always have. Probably always will.

And while helping over 40+ startup founders and agency owners grew their social presence in the last two years, I did everything I could to not get in front of the camera. 

I told myself it "didn't feel natural" and that my "strength was writing".

And I basically let myself live that lie until I had a bit of an epiphany a couple of months ago.

The epiphany was that what I like and don't like simply does not matter when talking about growing Hat Tip.

What matters is if a given activity helps or hurts the business—irrespective of what I like or don't like.

It is not exactly a secret that long-form YouTube videos definitely fall in the "help" bucket. 

So, here we are.

Legora’s $150M Series C announcement was a social masterclass. Breakdown of what made it great:

1. High-quality announcement video. This feels like the norm for any fundraise announcement in 2025. They knocked it out of the park.

2. The entire team posted the video and their own anecdote about the raise. Getting buy-in on this beyond the C-suite is a great way to make it feel like you took over the timeline that day.

Sigge Labor Stuart Shingler, Sarah Bennett Kalleberg, Jacob Lauritzen, Kushal Dalal, Wilhelm Bolin, Mimmi Grafström, and more from the team amplified the video within a few hours of each other.

3. Seeded engagement. I wasn't privy to the conversations, but it's clear the team and investors added engagement to each other's content about it. With these types of things, you only get one shot at making the biggest splash possible, so seeding this engagement is absolutely crucial.

Congratulations to the team – for both the raise, and a job well done announcing it.

The 0-1 process we've used to help over 40 startup founders and agency owners kickstart their LinkedIn presence (save this):

SCENARIO – you want to post on LinkedIn, but:

- You don't know what to post
- You don't have the time to write
- You don't trust others to write for you

Your competitors, who've figured it out:

- Generate more inbound
- Enjoy improved outbound
- Recruit better talent
- Get more speaking opportunities
- Have an easier time fundraising

Let's change that.

Here's your 0-1 guide to close the gap:

1 – SET-UP

- Expectations: Be ready to execute for 90 days ,minimum.

Profile optimization basics:

- Banner: Benefit you offer + customer logos for social proof

- Headline: Who you help + outcome you deliver + proof it works

- About section: Call out ICP → state pain points → agitate pain → your solution → social proof → CTA

- Featured section: Case study + best post + press mention/feature drop

- Experience: Clear title + what your company actually does (no buzzwords)

2 – STRATEGY

- Define your point of view: What do you believe that others in your space don't? This should be central to your content.

- Lean on your authority (customer count, years experience, unique insights)

- Content bucket mapping:

TOF: Industry takes, trends, contrarian opinions (brings new eyeballs)
MOF: Problem-focused content for your ICP's pain points (nurtures audience)
BOF: Product updates, case studies, social proof (converts followers)

Balance matters.

All TOF = likes but no leads.
All BOF = walking sales pitch.

3 – CREATION WORKFLOW

- Schedule 45-min bi-weekly calls on Riverside
- Your team prepares 10 prompts: 4 TOF, 4 MOF, 2 BOF
- They interview you with them podcast-style, let yourself ramble

One call should net you 2 weeks of content that sounds like you.

- Pair each post with relevant media

- 15-min review process with specific feedback

- Log feedback so next round needs fewer edits

Daily engagement routine:

- Build list of 15-20 accounts with your ICP audience

- Spend 15-20 mins commenting each day you post

- Respond to all comments in first hour after posting

Rinse and repeat in 2-week cycles for the next 90 days, and you'll be competing with your competition instead of wishing you were.

Your post didn't flop because:

- You posted at the wrong time
- You didn't warm up the algorithm
- You didn't get 4 generic comments ASAP
- It was too long
- It was too short
- Justin Welsh didn't bless it

99% of the time, it flopped for one or more of the following reasons:

1. The topic just isn't interesting.
2. The hook sucked.
3. It's oddly-formatted.
4. The hook sucked.
5. The media choice was weak.
6. The hook sucked.
7. It's not share-able/save-able.
8. The hook sucked.
9. It's regurgitated ChatGPT slop.
10. The hook sucked.

A few raw, unfiltered thoughts on the future of content.

PS - This raw, uncut stuff is harder than I thought 😅

Founder: I'm not getting any reach.
Me: 99% chance I know why without checking.

Founders assume their content fails because it lacks depth or insights. They think they need more expertise or better advice to share.

This completely misses the real issue.

Even brilliant content gets buried if no one clicks "see more" on the hook. LinkedIn's algorithm doesn't reward depth when your opening line fails to stop the scroll.

Truth is, weak hooks that create zero curiosity gap kill posts instantly. Your content quality becomes irrelevant if the hook doesn't earn attention.

I've written 4,000+ LinkedIn posts for over 40 B2B founders. And then every time I need to stop the scroll, I use 1 or more of these 3 hook writing techniques:

1) Authority + Specific Numbers

Use concrete figures related to time, money, or volume. "I've been in sales for 10 years" does nothing. Everyone's been in sales for 10 years.

Instead: "I sent 10,492 cold emails last week" or "We spent $5 million on Facebook ads last year."

Numbers immediately establish credibility and make readers pause.

2) Story-Based Openers

Create narrative tension with unresolved conflict.

Weak: "Turns out screening for IQ is a great way to find talent." 

Strong: "I thought screening candidates was rude. But something happened last week that broke my frame completely."

The second makes readers think "What happened?" Everyone has stories, even without flashy numbers.

3) Borrowed Authority

Leverage recognizable brands that carry more weight than your personal brand.

Example: "Ramp is worth $7.5 billion and their reps still cold email me multiple times per month. What they know that you don't."

WHAT I DID TO GROW IT:

1. Texted peers to comment for early engagement.

2. Sent dedicated email to my list right as I released it to get more early engagement.

3. Set up 30-day nurture sequence for all recipients (of which they are still going through).

4. Texted peers and siblings hang out on the Google Doc before dropping it to increase perceived demand.

5. Filmed 4 YouTube videos (coming soon) that will lead directly to it.

6. Filmed 50 short-form videos (also coming soon) that will automatically DM TT/IG commenters with the link.

7. Changed my headline to "Free 83-Page LinkedIn Guide For B2B Founders Posted Today".

8. 10x'd my typical outbound comment volume right before and as I posted it. The updated headline made each comment act as an ad to get traffic to the lead magnet.

RESULTS:

IMPRESSIONS: 26,629 – not impressed.
EMAILS COLLECTED: 195 net new – not impressed.
CALLS BOOKED: 2 – one in contract stage.

NOTE: These stats are exclusive of results from long and short form video content being distributed on other platforms, as well as recipients making it through the full nurture sequence.

If either of which yield material changes in results, I will post an update. 

THOUGHTS:

- Reach was suspiciously low for a post with that many comments.

- I was shocked at how poor the conversion from DM -> email was. People commented, got DM'd, but didn't get the guide.

CONCLUSION:

These are worth doing, but don't exhaust your audience with them too much.

I did one back in April that captured close to 2.5x the amount of emails this one did. 

I hope you found that insightful.

So many founders are scared to post on LinkedIn because they're "scared of being cringe".

Posting is not cringe.

You know what is?

- Returning your investors' money—or worse, losing it—because you couldn't generate enough pipeline. 

- Watching a competitor CEO eat your lunch on social because they care more about their company's success than made up perceptions from people they don't care about.

- Seeing that same CEO speak at the conferences you were paying to attend because they got invited through their social. 

- Opening your podcast app, excited to listen to a new episode of your favorite one, just to find out that week's guest is a competitor CEO (who has an inferior product) getting interviewed because they were posting on social. 

- Losing a potential candidate you really wanted to be a competitor because they were cultivating culture publicly on social. 

- Having your fundraise take 1.5-2x longer than you thought because investors had no idea what you do, who you are, or what you stand for. 

These sound a lot more cringe to me than posting on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn "growth" is useless.

Every founder would be much better off trying to become "niche famous" - someone who's well-known and trusted in their space or for one specific thing.

If I were a founder starting from zero, trying to become niche famous on LinkedIn, here's exactly what I'd do: 

1. Decide exactly what you want to be known for and who you want to be known for it by. 

This should align with your overall company mission, ICP characteristics, etc. 

2. State, define, and exhibit a POV on your space that is somewhat divisive (that you are willing to back up).

3. Commit to minimum 3 posts per week for 90-120 days with no expectation of any return.

Even still, prioritize what AI can't: Stories, opinions, and takes from your experience and expertise, as opposed to ChatGPT-repurposed "How-to" lists.

4. Start a content series, or at least a novel format you can become known for. This doesn't have to be high lift, but if you can create something your audience knows you for, you're in a better spot than otherwise. 

Perfect example: when I think about high-quality video in often interesting settings, I automatically think of Tycho Luijten.

5. Leave 5 valuable* comments on others in your niche's posts for every 1 post you make.

Run this playbook for 90 days, and thank me later.

Founders: In the last 14 days, I wrote under 10 comments that generated a total of 25K impressions and a new client from inbound. Here's the exact playbook:

More than just getting 20,000 impressions for free, one of our inbound calls last week mentioned how:

- They hadn't read any of my content 
- Were in the market for content services
- Saw one of these comments*
- Decided to book a call.

They're now a client.

This isn't luck and doesn't take a ton of time. Most founders don't have a couple of hours per day laying around. 

So here's how you can execute a similar playbook in under 15 minutes per day:

1. Make a spreadsheet with 3 lists of accounts

25 accounts in each: 

→ ICP (target prospects who post regularly) 
→ Peers (people in your space)
→ Leaders (industry leaders)

Your ICP list should be decision-makers at companies you want to work with. 

Your peer list should be other founders/marketers in adjacent spaces. 

Your leader list should be the big names whose audiences overlap with your ICP.

Filter each by "latest" content. Find content within each list that you can add something of value to. Don't comment for the sake of commenting but leave valuable comments where possible.

Three types work best:

- Personal story: "This reminds me of when I [story]. [Takeaway]."

- Respectful disagreement: Only when you actually disagree. Back it up with your own experience.

- Resource recommendation: Point to a book, podcast, or tool that relates to their post.

Do this over time and watch your inbound profile visits and calls (if you do it right) grow.

You are quite literally given free shots on goal as often as you want them. Not using them is a fool's errand.
