I lead DevriX, an embedded execution unit that implements and operates durable operating systems for PE-backed mid-market companies, and Growth Shuttle, a market intelligence and advisory firm focused on execution, systems, and operating leverage in the mid-market.

In addition to building and operating these businesses, I engage selectively and fractionally as a Technical Value Creation Advisor, supporting sponsors and management teams with post-acquisition execution, systemization, and operating resilience.

My role is not to replace leadership teams or take on day-to-day operations. It is to design and govern execution systems that reduce operational risk, improve throughput, and ensure value creation initiatives hold under scale.

Well actually I saw something similar on LinkedIn and I decided to adapt it to events.

Before I get the hate of the AI zealots, it’s only my experience using these tools for and with our clients. It is not universal truth.

I also built custom GPTs and recorded a lot of content on the topic, including a course a while ago. We ran multiple training sessions and events.

I decided to lay it down in a swift comparison chart.

I passed the content through Chat, Gemini and Claude. They all agreed this is a fair assessment.

Super clever, it summed up all the activities’ worth:

 - 10 sessions (worth 2K)
 - Decks and recordings (wortj $500)

 - Access to previous events’ sessions (worth $3000)
 - Meetings with 10 relevant companies (save $2K)

Love it.

It made me think about nonsensical things about events.
Only if you look at the numbers or if you plan them, you get them.

No research just experience.

I have a confession to make. 

I worked on my first event in 2002.

But for many years, I wrote about events as someone observing from the outside.

I always prioritized research, interviewed planners, and documented case studies.

All great. 

But my writing changed when I started working hands-on with clients.

I still do research. Interviews. Case studies.

But what my clients give me is pulse on what matters like never before.

Are we seriously down to this, event industry????

I got an invite to be a keynote at an event.

My sweet lord, I have to pay $3799

This is nothing new if you are a speaker or plan events.

But this is a message to those who may get similar offers.

Do not fall for these, ever!

Serious events pay their speakers. Or give you tangible benefits for speaking.

I know most of you reading will never do anything like this.

Btw the event is 20 hours flight away from where I live. A 7k investment.

Do better!

I like the let’s GET LEADS game. It can’t be the only game we play today, my friend.

I thought it was.

I travel the world reviewing events and working with B2B teams on their event programs. I’ll be in Austin, Dubai, Vegas and Barcelona this year.

Here’s what I noticed. 

Those getting the most attention at events spend $$$, but not where you'd expect.

Take Anthropic. They ran a coffee pop-up with free sessions to learn Claude. Line around the block. The free swag (a basic cap) went viral. 

DocuSign at Dreamforce rotated four activations across multiple venues, including the show floor. More than just the booth. 

Saltbox bought out a venue near the Moscone for the same event. Lounge, massage chairs, quiet meeting spots. 

Sprout Social built a presence hub before the event even started. One minisite with all activations and talks. More pre-event strategy, friends.

Same budget. 
Completely different allocation.

My 5 pillar tactical framework.
Some practical advice and some fun.

Do you know why some of these trends are underused? The data would be too HONEST.

If you are in events, you are obsessed with trends.

And thank the lord for that, otherwise I would be in real estate or something.

I built a matrix to track the event trends I am following.

The upper-right quadrant is where the money is. 
Almost nobody's there.

Some of these I am implementing with my clients at the speed of light thanks to A I.

The most undervalued skill in events right now is party planning.
Hear me out.

‘We are more than party planners’ has been a mantra for a long time. The skill of planning parties may soon be needed.

A few cases in point:
Dinners have become the marketing strategy of choice.

Awesome.
Every dinner is quickly becoming the same.

The creative element you put into dinners is becoming the defining factor. Eating and drinking are not a strategy. The experience is.

We need more creative party planning.

A I is taking over strategy and measurement. In a year's time, targeting, attribution and pipeline tracking will be largely automated.

Great parties will become the moat.
Most event strategists I meet can't tell me the last time they planned something genuinely surprising.

But business events are about business!!!!
I’ve said it. I stand by it.

That's exactly the point. The party planner has the innate ability to connect humans with unexpected and A I-less tactics. 

Great parties connect people for business. 

Selecting the list
Collecting the data
Analyzing the pipeline impact

These remain key skills of the event strategist. 
But the instinct for what makes a room come alive is now a key part of the job.

The strategist who can't plan a great party will lose to someone who can.

Nobody will open an email anymore.
IRL will be the proper way to do business.

We will scale the event industry like we only dreamt about 10 years ago.

Entrepreneurs are starting, buying, and selling events like they are the hot saas companies of the 2010s.

Please, do spend those 15 hours on OpenClaw every day. We will meet at your industry event and close 1 year's worth of pipeline.

Maybe it will get so easy that we will hand out USB sticks and pens and just collect deals.
