So many opportunities to make a storyline interactive and engaging for the audience. Guiding the eye is easier to do because you can hand over control to the viewer and let them interact and discover the details in your story. 

I've been working, testing, and playing around with Rive a lot in both client work and personal projects, and I'm ready to bring some extra fun to my clients this year.

What happens when your "v1" goes viral before you finish "v2"?  
While working with Raspberry Circle we hit a pivot point when we were designing the new character set for Emy. The original design gained so much traction on social media that it became a brand anchor.
We paused the update, but I couldn’t let this work stay hidden in a folder. I was exploring more emotional depth and exaggerated animations to really bridge the gap between user and digital pet.
We got all the way through rigging, building the start of the state machines, and animating some of the character animation states in Rive 

Rive allowed us to create one rig and with the state machine we can switch between the different characters and different clothing meaning you don’t need to create different animations for each character.

“Does anyone else feel the urge to do something with their hands?” said Kalika Sharma in a call with a bunch of cool people in Austin Saylor ‘s project 200k cohort (which I’m loving btw).

Well, I’m here to say I do this. It’s called Kigumi and it’s a miniature version of the famous Japanese woodworking method that doesn’t use nails, screws or adhesives. 

I got this little puzzle from the airport as I was leaving Japan. To be more precise, my fiancé got it for me. It sat in a corner fo a while until I started working on it a few weeks back. 

It takes a while, it’s tedious and I love it. It’s something artistic to work on when I’m not animating or working in Rive. And it gives me room to think and slow down.

If you want a short primer on Rive this is a great, quick overview about creating one of the most used types of interactions: hovering. Give Joey Judkins some love! There are lots of tutorials out there, but only a few great teachers.

A great take on the state and future of motion design from my peer and long time inspiration Emanuele Colombo .
