Ports of Auckland will shortly start work to partially automate its container terminal.  It will be the first New Zealand port and only the third straddle carrier terminal in the world to automate.

When complete in 2019, automated straddle carriers will be used to load and unload trucks and operate the container yard.  Manually-driven straddle carriers will continue to work between the yard and ship-to-shore cranes.

Victoria International Container Terminal Ltd. or VICT in short will be building a brand new fully automated international container terminal and empty container park at Webb Dock, Melbourne, Australia.

DP World London Gateway

London Gateway is at the forefront of port innovation. The port will have the best tidal window access for deep-drafted vessels and a capacity of 3.5m TEUs per annum.
 
With six berths and the capability to handle the Ultra Large Container Ships, the terminal will deploy automated container handling systems and controls. London Gateway port is designed to provide significant improvement in handling speeds, which will provide a significant reduction in the time spent in port. Automated stacking will reduce the vulnerability to adverse weather conditions.
 
Europe’s largest logistics park will be adjacent to and integrated with the port. This will provide huge savings in transport costs and benefit the environment by removing unnecessary transport movements and ‘empty’ miles for container transport and delivery vehicles. Speed to market will also be dramatically improved.

Senior Network Consultant

Abu Dhabi Terminals is the operator of the newly build semi-automated container terminal named Khalifa Port. During this period I was responsible for the design of ADT's datacentre network and managing the network interfaces supplied by 3rd parties to assure all systems would communicate and operate with each other.

We managed to build a fully automated landside gate operation using technologies like OCR (Optical Character Recognition), ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) delivered by Dalosy Industrial Systems B.V. This communicates with the Navis N4 TOS (Terminal Operating System).
Fully automated stacking cranes from Konecranes with TMEIC automation.
Currently manual operated shuttle carriers from Terex with an advanced PDS (Positioning Detection System) for zero error container handling.
Worlds biggest Quay Cranes from ZPMC with TMEIC automation and crane OCR by Dalosy.
The Core network is build on Cisco Systems technologies with the harsh outdoor environment using MOXA Industrial Ethernet Solutions. The outdoor wireless environment is based on Motorola Mesh/MEA technology.

The terminal went live on September 1st, 2012 at 7am.

Having worked on different green field projects, I also got involved and experienced with building data centers. With a limited but decent electrical background, I'm able to support customers with their needs for building, migrating or expanding their datacenter.
