I oversaw the US operations for two distinctive brands, launched our online sales, served as the corporate signing officer, and directed all P&L activities. I also served as the SME and Senior HRBP to the leadership team across multiple divisions for all HR matters. The products are an award-winning, full-spectrum hemp topical cream company that provides natural relief to patients.

I focused on the health of the organization, examining the big picture, and kept it moving forward. Someone has to zoom in and identify obstacles holding the teammates back from doing their work while carefully studying the implications of decisions made across the entire ecosystem—I enjoy that. Our leadership team works in unison to remove the "chatter" when scaling a company; I look at systems and ensure they are in sync to create organizational clarity.

Built Delta9 Labs into a startup, industry leader in THC and CBD vapes and edible products, I oversaw the organization’s ongoing operations and procedures, including managing five brands, 60+ employees and four locations throughout California. Set overall goals for performance and growth; establish policies that promote company culture and vision. Directly supported the executive team as the Senior HRBP for all Human Resources matters.

Managed the supply chain planning, internal manufacturing operations & overhead, purchasing, inventory replenishment, order management, and strategic activities, including product costing and efficient plant staffing — increased quarterly sales 103% year-over-year.

IT: Managed systems and procedures for forecasting and controlling inventory, both raw materials, and finished goods while ensuring product availability. Audit weekly reports for accuracy in every department. 
• Setup and trained employees on SalesForce, including a five-part customer service model.
• Created a service recovery model, trained managers on the model and set service excellence expectations. Redesigned the workplace environment, oversee workplace safety and training.

Branding: Led re-branding effort with a local agency. Worked on the package redesign team, proofing content and working closely with printers & designers. Designed and worked with engineers on proof of concepts and prototypes.

Marketing: Supervised the brand ambassadors & champion on social media outreach, creating content and engaging our core audience. 60 FTEs.

Crafted a culture that inspires employees to learn & grow - do their best work. Provided leadership and direction to personnel; regularly evaluate human resources practices and procedures and recommend to the CEO needed modifications and improvements.  • Created salary schedules and established HR processes. Implemented a new, mobile time card system. Developed and passed a paid time off policy for all employees and implemented the system that manages it.

Director of Human Resources - People & Talent Management

Chief Leschi Schools

In the Puyallup Tribe PK-12 School System, I led, oversaw, planned, and directed the activities of the human resources department at Chief Leschi Schools. 
Led the wave of change for overhauling the HR department from compliance/order taking to providing outstanding customer service and serving as a business partner to all administrators and managers — reorganized workloads and created mobile workstations within the school system. Rebranded the team to People & Talent Management to become a people-first service department.

Directed staff in organizational structure, employment, compensation, employee database maintenance, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, orientation/training/development, and policy/procedure development. Served on the leadership team and advised the superintendent as the senior HRBP in employee relations, workforce planning, compensation, learning, and growth. 

• Launched the Online Applicant System, eliminating paper applications and giving administrators instant access to applicant materials in the cloud.
• Implemented employee recognition program, including annual employee longevity celebration.
• Redesigned the vesting schedule and contribution amounts of 403(b) plan to lead education, allowing us to recruit and retain highly effective educators and support staff.
• Negotiated with our business partners to reduce our 403(b) plan fees by 47% over three years.
• Conducted school district investigations and trained HR professionals to lead investigations. 
• Rewrote the employee handbook to a positive voice and had it reflect the customs and traditions of the Schools. 550 FTEs.

Director, Human Resources - People & Talent Management

Highline Public Schools

Provided world-class customer service to administrators, managers, and over 500 employees from the Support Services (Nutrition Services, Transportation, Security, Custodial, Warehouse, and Maintenance & Facilities) of the school district at HQ.

As their strategic HR business partner, I had four main functions;

Employee Services:
Employee benefits, compensation, seniority rankings, onboarding, and proper salary schedule placement. HRIS hiring & benefits system and helping them interpret their collective bargaining agreements.

Labor Relations:
Provide school district policy guidance and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements for Teamsters I, II & III to administrators and line managers. 
Provide performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions); help mediate crucial conversations to resolve complex employee relations issues; review investigations and ensure that they meet the seven tests of just cause.
Draft letters of discipline and submit findings report on investigations. 

Talent Acquisition: 
Manage the requisitions queue, initial screenings, preparing offer letters, and extending job offers to all Support Services positions—coach managers with preparing interview questions and exam questions. Help with overall recruiting efforts for the school district.

Risk Management:
Assist in conducting internal investigations, writing operating procedures and training material, and reducing the school district's legal risks by ensuring regulatory compliance. Respond and defend against unjust unemployment claims. Conducting background, WATCH & fingerprint checks, and previous employer and reference checks.

Accomplishments:
• Redesigned the job descriptions to modernize them, adding embedding & mapping features.
• Served as lead negotiator for the district bargained, drafted, and published the new custodial evaluation.

• Created & wrote the Operating Procedures and Board Member Handbook.
• Led the acquisition of a tablet-based payment method (PayPal Here) to be able to accept debit/credit cards at the registration table.
